Formula Student Team

Prom Racing would like to welcome you to the inaugural issue of our newsletters, which will provide insight into the process of designing and constructing a formula student race car, as well as inform our supporters about our progress. We are the FSAE team of the National Technical University of Athens, since 2008. Our first participation in the competitions was in 2011 when we received really positive comments that kept us going. For 2015, we have set the bar higher to achieve honorary performances with our new race car.

The year 2014 was a transitional period in various ways for our team. We recruited new members to whom we provided the essential knowledge and experience in order to be ready to design and build a new formula race car in 2015. They also had the chance to use our old car, ”Suzie” as an experimental base. As the new year begins, our team is more capable and ready than ever to complete the construction of a fully functional race car.

So far, designing has been our priority and we have certainly achieved our short term goals. The concept of our new, monocoque chassis is almost complete and optimizations are being made. The suspension team has already decided which type is going to be used and has reached the final steps of the designing process. Double A-arm geometry will be implemented for the new vehicle. The team, also, plans to introduce 10 inch rims which heavily influences the suspension geometry Meanwhile, the electronics team has a fully functional data logging system that provides stability and useful data to the other sub teams. Team “aero” had plenty of research done, since aerodynamic parts have not been implemented by our team in the past.

The engine team has optimized the engine mapping and has mounted the extra sensors needed. At this point we would like to express our appreciation to GearTech Engineering for providing their dyno to help with the mapping.

We emphasized in lowering the center of gravity, by placing the driver in the lowest possible position, while providing room for good control of the steering wheel. However, we made sure the driver is able to easily jump out of the car, as a precaution measure, implied by FSAE rules.

Our team for the third year participated in the most famous car exposition of Athens. This time we were at the test drive section, doing exhibition runs and showing our progress. Thousand visitors, like every year, arrived at the exposition and met our team. Autokinisi attracted many car enthusiasts, by presenting new car models of the world’s most known car industries. So, our team had the chance to discuss with the visitors and to provide them various information.

Prom Racing, also attended the exposition “Researcher’s Day” which was held in the National Technical University of Athens. This exposition is about presenting the work of every research team of NTUA. Every year, dozens of visitors arrive at the university in order to meet the student programs. Our team participated in the exposition and made many new contacts by showing our work.

Our team is now in the process of finding new sponsors to support our effort because we lack financial aid. We need financial, technical and material donations in order to reach our goals.
