Waikato & King Country Choosing to live anywhere between the Coromandel Peninsula and the northern slopes of Mount Ruapehu, means a life in the mighty Waikato. This region comes with all the trimmings due to the winning mix of agriculture and urban innovation. Living amongst the lush green pastures of New Zealand’s thoroughbred training capital can be likened to living in a giant country club. The money can be seen flowing through the bustling service towns from the farming and horse racing sectors. Locals commented in a local study about the region, that they noticed how busy the small towns are compared to others of similar size. A significant area for local Maori and the base of the Kingitanga movement, combined with the heritage of the descendants of the European settlers, means Waikato has a wealth of culture and a depth of history.
