Es lugar común hablar de las bondades de la oferta gastronómica de toda la Bahía de Banderas. Y Nuevo Vallarta no es la excepción a ello. Se come muy bien, ya sea tacos, hamburguesas, pizzas, mariscos, cocinas como la española, italiana u oriental… sin olvidar, por supuesto, las delicias de la comida mexicana. Ya quisieran en otras ciudades de la república algunos de los restaurantes de esta población. Para quienes aman el golf, existen dos excelentes campos para dar rienda suelta a este deporte. Digna de mención es la Marina del sitio, que cuenta con canales navegables para llegar a la puerta de la casa o villa y dejar bajo buen resguardo el yate o embarcación. La realidad es que tengo hijos, ¡1 hija y 5 lindos perros y sí, mucha decoración blanca! ¡Hoy, estoy compartiendo mis secretos y consejos para tener muebles, pintura y decoración de colores claros mientras crío niños ocupados y mascotas juguetonas!

¡Puedes tener colores blancos o más claros en tu hogar con niños! ¡Es totalmente posible! ¡Todo es posible si estás dispuesto a trabajar para obtener lo que realmente quieres!

If I had a dime for every time I get asked or told, “How do you have so much white in your house with kids,” or “You must not have children or pets,” I would be a millionaire! The reality is, I do have children- 1 daughter and five cute dogs and yes a whole lot of white decor! Today, I am sharing my secrets and tips to having light colored furniture, paint and decor while still raising busy children and playful pets!

You can have white or lighter colors in your home with kids! It is totally possible! Anything is possible if you are willing to work to get what you really want!

Here are a few tips that work at our house…

Make sure your paint can handle a good wipe down! I love our creamy white paint in our downstairs. It is Ralph Lauren’s Edwardian linen (mixed by Dunn Edwards) in a satin sheen. It wipes off beautifully and makes our home feel light and bright while remaining warm and inviting. To wipe spots off my walls, I like to use a damp cloth with a little bit of comet on it or a magic eraser. Our staircase and upstairs family room are painted a bright white (Dunn Edwards base paint with no tint added in a semi gloss sheen). This finish is a little more shiny, but it is even more durable to washing and wiping!

2. Purchase Furniture with Indestructible Fabric

Remember when Grandma would wrap her light colored furniture in plastic to protect it?! Fabrics have come a LONG way! You can now choose from products like Crypton, Sunbrella Performance and Perennial, for virtual indestructible fabrics options Our sofa look like they are white, but they are really a pale gray. They have an awesome texture that helps with everyday wear. The fabric is Crypton and it is amazing! You can basically pour bleach on it and it will just bead up! You can find these durable fabric options at most furniture stores. Their ticket price will be more, but you will not regret your choice for one minute. The first time that Gatorade spills or the dog has an accident, you will be smiling instead of crying! Our sofas were custom made but I have some similar options sourced for you below. If your budget doesn’t allow for those types of fabric, you can Scotch Guard your furniture yourself! Or if you have leather sofas and don’t want to spend the money to switch them out to something lighter, choose accessories that are lighter in color to achieve that airy look and feel. In the kitchen, think of seating options that do not have fabric. Try looking for chairs and counter stools that are leather or some other material. This will allow you to wipe them clean with ease! 62 | MAYO / MAY 2019 | No. 354 3. Select Washable Pillows and Throws Most of the pillows and throws in our home are light in color. Lighter colors are so soothing and peaceful to me. In order to keep them looking “nice”, I make sure to select pillow and throws that have a zipper closure and are machine washable! Washable is key! With children and pets, things are going to get soiled! You can sometimes control what your own kiddos do, but not the neighbor’s or anyone else’s! So if you want to keep your white or light pillows and throws looking great, buy ones that can be thrown in the wash! If you find a pillow you are so in love with you may cause bodily harm to the offender who stains it, buy an extra one and keep it tucked away just in case! I also have a stain remover spray that I love to use when accidents happen

3. Seleccione almohadas y telas lavables La mayoría de las almohadas y tiros en nuestra casa son de color claro. Los colores más claros son tan calmantes y tranquilos para mí. Con el fin de mantenerlos “bien”, me aseguro de seleccionar almohadas y tiros que tengan un cierre de cremallera y que sean lavables a máquina. Lavable es la clave! Con niños y mascotas, las cosas se van a ensuciar! Algunas veces puedes controlar lo

que hacen tus propios hijos, ¡pero no el de un vecino o el de otra persona! Entonces, si desea que sus almohadas y mantas blancas o livianas se vean geniales, ¡compre unas que se puedan tirar en el lavado! Si encuentra una almohada de la que está tan enamorado, puede causar daños corporales al infractor que la mancha, compre una extra y manténgala escondida por si acaso. También tengo un spray quitamanchas que me encanta usar cuando ocurren accidentes.
