These bay is one of the largest bays in Mexico. It may not be the largest in the country, although it is probably the most beautiful. What is a fact is that it is one of the deepest on the planet (which reaches just over 1,400 meters), which makes it one of the favorite sites of the humpback whale for its reproduction and, so to speak , their winter holidays. Both entities are separated (well, rather united) by the Ameca River.

The legend The name of the bay comes from times of the Spanish conquest. There has been heated debate about its origin. According to the legend, a group of Iberian soldiers, under whose command was the captain Francisco Cortés de San Buenaventura, nephew of the conqueror Hernán Cortés, crossed the Pacific coastline. When arriving at these coasts, they waited for more than 20 thousand indigenous people, ready to defend their territory. It was not exactly a friendly welcome, like the one visitors receive today.

hands and the quiver of their arrows, the ancient settlers awaited the Spanish explorers. Noticing that they were not expecting precisely a pleasant vacation, the newcomers, whose number was lower, were ready for the attack. However, according to legend, one of the friars who accompanied the expedition of Cortes took a banner of the Immaculate Conception and the Holy Cross, and knelt before the Indians. Apparently, the golden flashes of the

San Sebastián del Oeste: Tranquilidad y magia en la montaña Tranquility and magic at the mountains

Por Diego Arrazola

E

On one hand, there are the blessings of having wonderful beaches along with the exuberant and happy life of the tropics in the region of Puerto Vallarta. It’s true, and what a great privilege it is. However, another of the attractions of this area are its mountains. The majestic Sierra Madre Occidental practically gets into the Pacific Ocean to create an incomparable binomial of sea and mountain, forest and jungle, which make the bay unique. Thus, one of the corners that is a must for residents and tourists is San Sebastián del Oeste, a small town that is located about 70 kilometers from Puerto Vallarta, just in the mountainous area of Jalisco.

A magical and attractive town, this unique villa dates from the colonial era. In the years of Spanish rule, Real de San Sebastián was a thriving gold and silver producer center. Trough the years, the mining activity went off and the town started losing wealth and inhabitants. However, San Sebastian today still has echoes of past splendor in its charming streets, houses and haciendas.

Like taken from a postcard

Arriving from the road to this town located 1,480 meters above the sea level has its charm. The landscapes are wonderful and the reward for traveling the road full of curves that leads to San Sebastian is to arrive at a place that looks like something out of a postcard. He explains his reasons: “The view is beautiful, the cobblestone streets and its environment is that of a magic town, with its uniformly white facades and red roofs. Absolute tranquility and several cottages / hotels to stay. Walking, it is covered in a couple of hours”.

Constructions with history, cobblestone streets San Sebastian attracts and subjugates nationals and foreigners. Houses and haciendas full of history, quiet cobbled streets, cafes, bars, cozy little hotels (some stand since the 18th or 19th centuries), constitute a good part of the offer for the enjoyment of the visitors. Go eat well here. Along with the establishments of delicious regional and Mexican food, the town can boast European-style restaurants of great quality, excellent decoration, good service and pleasant atmosphere. You can drink and buy a remarkable organic coffee planted in some of the coffee farms nearby. Also, in the bars of San Sebastian they offer the powerful rootlet, as well as cocktails made with this distilled relative of tequila.

and will have a great time in San Sebastian. Others stay overnight to immerse themselves in the peace of this town of white-walled houses with roofs of clay tiles. This style, by the way, was inherited by the houses of the old Puerto Vallarta, which was populated by migrants from the mountain range since the 19th century, after the decline of mining. Like all traditional towns, the church stands out in the center. In this case the temple is dedicated to San Sebastián Mártir, the patron saint, and dates from the 17th century. Opposite, there are the traditional portals, with shops and crowded restaurants. Mario lives in Guadalajara and

A must see is the Casa Museo de Dona Conchita Encarnación. It is small, it lodges in an old construction located in the center of the town and rescues the historical memory of the region and the family of its owner. No less important is the Mirador de la Bufa, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view. You have to arrive by ATV and at the end you have to walk through the middle of a beautiful forest of pines, oaks and ash trees. Hopefully, if the weather permits, you can see the Bay of Banderas and Puerto Vallarta, plus, of course, the nearby mountains and valleys. Something that is usually done in San Sebastian and its surroundings is hiking. You can walk a lot, which, you know is a magnificent exercise for the body and allows you to admire the natural and architectural wonders of this magical corner of the Jalisco mountain.

Dale sabor a la pared de tu TV con estas ideas de diseño Spice up Your TV Wall With These Design Ideas

U

sleek, modern, wall-mounted TV is the center of attention in most American rumpus and family rooms. But, your brand-new flatscreen doesn’t need to be the only focus of your room. Whether you surround your TV with framed pictures to create your own gallery wall, perch it on that unique thrift-store find or set it off with accessories, here are some creative ways to turn your TV wall into a real conversation piece.

look that takes your cluster of pictures from hectic to heavenly? Maintain even spacing between each piece (including the TV — remember, your TV is the centerpiece of this arrangement), and stick to a simple color palette for your frames. If you’re using differentsized frames, stick to the same matte size to give everything a unified appearance. Stagger your pieces and throw in a few framed photos for that splash of personality. Don’t be afraid to choose pieces with lots of color.

Build Your Own Art Gallery

Install Some Shelves

Gallery walls are all the rage, and they make an easy and striking way to set off your TV wall. Go for a clean, polished, black-and-white look by painting around your gallery wall and using white frames for your pictures. Use the same size frames and mattes for a more streamlined appearance, and line your frames up carefully,. Alternatively, you could go for a more eclectic look with frames of different sizes, colors and even shapes. Wondering how to create that tied-together

Just because you have a wall-mount TV doesn’t mean you have to mount it on the wall. You can install some industrial shelves or even built-ins to give you a place to put your TV without going through the hassle of hanging it from the wall. Use the shelves around your TV to display framed photos and art, attractive books, dried flowers or potted plants, sculptures and other decorative elements to tie the wall together. Of course, you can both mount your TV on the wall and use shelves as a decorative element around it. Place a few CONTINUES PAGE 54

floating shelves or shadow boxes around the TV and use them to display colorful decorative items. When installing floating shelves, the trick is to pretend they’re one piece. You wouldn’t have a random shelf jutting out of the side of your bookcase or built-ins, and you shouldn’t see that kind of effect when you’re done installing floating shelves, either. Align your shelves in a square or rectangle shape, or arrange them asymmetrically above and beside the TV. If you go this route, make sure you install the TV first; whether you end up using a professional TV mounting service or doing the job yourself, it’ll be easier to hang the shelves if the TV is already up and easier to hang the TV if the shelves are not.

Hide It

One of the biggest drawbacks of hanging a TV on the wall is that it doesn’t look very interesting when you’re not watching it. You could turn your TV into a digital picture frame or work of art, or maybe you want to downplay the significance of TV to your household by hiding the screen behind a mirror, lar-

ge framed piece of (analog) art or even a curtain. Hang your TV inside the lid of a chest or repurpose an old wardrobe into a trendy TV cabinet. That way, you can put your TV away when you’re not using it — and when your hipster friends come over, you can pretend you don’t even own one.

Frame It

If you don’t want to turn your TV into a digital picture frame, you can still showcase it as a work of art — by hanging an actual picture frame around it. A wooden frame can bring some character to your TV wall, and it’s a great way to blend your TV into a gallery wall. Break out the paints and get creative; paint your TV frame silver or gold or some other color that matches your gallery wall or room décor color scheme. Today’s wall-mounted, flat-screen TVs can be massive, but you can hide them in plain sight by seamlessly blending them into your décor. The space on the wall around your TV is free real estate — don’t be afraid to add decorative elements to tie your room together.
