Domestic Adoption Trends in Texas

In many countries in the world, adoption has had a positive influence on society. The birth mother, the adopted child, and the adoptive family can all benefit from adoption and in many different ways. For this reason, adoption agencies and private adoption centers have been granted the rights to facilitate the entire adoption process, as long as they do so in compliance with the basic requirements of the state and for the welfare of everyone involved. In the United States alone, many different types of adoption are encouraged. Adoptions by private and public agencies, and even adoption by a relative of the child's, are highly supported. Nevertheless, adoption trends and types differ in the different states. According to the State Department, there were 616 adoptions completed in Texas in 2012. Of these 616 successful adoptions, 248 adoptions were of 1 to 2 year-old children; 102 adoptions were of 3 to 4 year-old children; and 138 adoptions were of 5 to 12 year-old children. Adopting younger children may be the most popular choice for adoptive couples. However, there are many older children in Texas who need a loving home and family to support them, too. The State Department also reports that of the 616 domestic adoptions that took place in Texas last year, 336 of the adopted children were females and 280 adopted children were males. This does not necessarily imply that there are more girls waiting to be adopted than boys, or that adoptive couple prefer to adopt females. Rather, adoption agencies work with birth mothers and aspiring adoptive couples to make a lifelong match between parents and child. It is important to note that no matter the age or gender of the adopted child, the adoptive family will have to undergo the same domestic adoption process and will be subjected to the same scrutiny to make sure every adoptive family is a good match for their child. In 2012, Texas was the state with the highest number of adoptions in the US. This may be due to the fact that there are a number of adoption communities offering adoption services in Texas. More so, these adoption centers work hard to encourage young women and teenagers who are not prepared for motherhood to consider adoption. This is for the good of both mother and baby. For a young woman facing an unplanned pregnancy, adoption can be a wonderful option to provide her baby with a safe and loving home.
