Carol took some time to answer questions about her milestone anniversary in real estate. This interview has been edited for length and clarity. What has kept you in the real estate industry for thirty years?
Carol: I’ve stayed in the business because there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of knowing that I helped my clients realize a dream by purchasing their first home, investment property or a seller who’s looking for a fresh start and wants to relocate. I don’t think of myself as a real estate “salesperson,” but rather a real estate advisor. The gratitude I receive from my clients is very rewarding. What are some of the biggest positive changes in real estate you have seen over the course of your career?
Carol: The technology is amazing! When I started, the MLS system was a big blue book that we thumbed through with our clients in the office. Today’s real estate systems make my job 1000% more effective and efficient. Much of the talk has been about a hot real estate market. You work in a variety of areas. Which areas do you see are “hotter” than others?
Carol: Right now, a few come to mind. Fishtown, Port Richmond and Brewerytown have been on the rise for years. Northeast Philadelphia is also absolutely on fire! I’m seeing a few neighborhoods that I call “ones to watch” such as Wissinoming and Tacony as well. What advice would you give to someone starting their career as a REALTOR®?
Carol: As my husband says, I am always in REALTOR® mode. If I hear someone across the room mention what I call a real estate trigger word, I’m running to them with my card. You can never over-market yourself. Let everyone you know (and I mean everyone) know that you can help them with their real estate needs and be available to help them. Also, network with as many fellow agents as you can and grow a referral business. I have a steady stream of referrals from agents throughout the Philly area and across the country. Lastly, communication is key to a successful client relationship and career in general. Answer your phone in a timely manner or another agent will! Animals make regular appearances on your social media and you are involved in adoption and fostering. Why do you have such a soft spot for furry friends?
Carol: I have ways been an animal lover and have always owned dogs. I’ve literally lost sleep worrying about dogs that need to be pulled from high-kill shelters and taken to a rescue. I currently have two rescue dogs, three parrots, a parakeet and feed the deer in my backyard occasionally. Cue the theme from Snow White.
