AREA AGENCY ON AGING, REGION ONE

Helping older adults thrive along life’s journey through 50 innovative programs and services

LETTER FROM THE CEO

It was another busy and productive year as we continued to serve our community. I am proud to say that we are still assisting over 110,000 clients per year.

This past year we completed a comprehensive needs assessment of the populations served by the Agency. We held 22 listening sessions, surveyed over 250 individuals, and held 5 public hearings. The top 3 needs identified by the assessment were transportation to medical appointments, finding affordable housing, and being able to afford nutritious food.

To help our clients address these issues, we continued our elderTRIP program which served 537 clients with nearly 18,000 rides to medical appointments.

We continued to be committed to advocating for the housing needs of older adults. I am pleased that the Arizona Legislature heard our requests for help on behalf of older adults and will be awarding $5 million to Arizona’s Area Agencies on Aging for fiscal year 2024. For the first time, we will have direct funding to keep

older adults housed by helping them with rent and mortgage payments, utility bills, and property taxes.

To assist with food insecurity, the Agency continued it’s monthly delivery of perishable and non-perishable food items to 210 clients and served 100 clients in our bi-weekly elderSHOP program. In addition, our provider network served nearly 1 million meals to Maricopa County residents.

We could not have achieved such remarkable outcomes without the support of our Boards of Directors, Advisory Council, staff, volunteers, funders and providers.

As we look forward to fiscal year 2024, we are excited to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. This is an opportunity to reflect on the impact we have had and will continue to have serving our community.
