SUNDAY 29TH AUGUST 2021 DUKE OF CORNWALL TROPHY
TEAMS GREEN GATES, BARDON, TEMPEST, MONTEROSSO
The in-form Green Gates team confirmed that they are a force to be reckoned with when winning the Duke of Cornwall Trophy. Noor Khadra’s team came out best in a tough and tight match against the equally formidable Bardon team to win this 16-goal contest.
Green Gates had already secured the Mountbatten Trophy and just a couple of weeks later Noor’s team finished their season on a high by winning the Autumn Nations Trophy – a nice haul of Club silverware. Noor will also remember the 2021 season as this was the year in which he had his first taste of the 22-goal, when deputising for Scone Polo patron David Paradice in the Cartier Queen’s Cup.
Cesar Crespo, Green Gates’ number two, was named the Most Valuable Player, while Bardon’s Matias Machado collected the Best Playing Pony prize for Open Callaway. Just a month earlier this pony had received the Indian Empire Best Playing Pony prize when playing with another rising star of the game, Adolfo Cambiaso Jnr.
Eight teams had entered this competitive tournament, which always delivers some great games later into the season. The sub-final was no exception, with Gustav Rausing’s Tempest defeating Monterosso 8-4. ✸
