TEAMS TCHOGAN, OJO CALIENTE, FOUR QUARTERS ORANGE, LA BERTA POLO TEAM
Heiko Voelker’s Tchogan claimed the fi rst tournament victory of the 2021 season. They narrowly beat Ana Escobedo’s Ojo Caliente 7-6 in a competitive, 12-goal game to win the Valerie Halford Memorial Trophy. Played at Coworth Park, this fi nal had been delayed by 24 hours due to heavy rain but the rearranged fi xture, on the Sunday lunchtime, delivered plenty of fast-paced polo. Tchogan’s Tom Brodie received the Most Valuable Player prize while John Paul Clarkin, captain of the Ojo Caliente team, received the Polo Times Best Playing Pony prize for Centrical.
The sub fi nal, which had been played on the Saturday saw a victory for Simon Arber’s Four Quarters Orange. They beat Bruno Bensoussan’s La Berta Polo Team 7-4.
The tournament is played in memory of Valerie Halford, a passionate polo writer and photographer who did so much to bring new audiences to polo. So competitive matches such as these are the perfect tribute to such an advocate of the game. ✸
