After making its introductory UK appearance at the Goodwood Moving Motor Show, towards the end of this month, the new fourth generation Mazda MX5 is due to go on sale in UK dealer showrooms from Saturday 29th August. Buyers will have the choice of two engine options, a 1.5 litre and a 2.0 litre. There will also be three trim and equipment levels; SE, SE-L and Sport. Prices will start at £18,495 and go up to £23,295. Standard equipment on all models are, alloy wheels, LED headlamps, leather covered steering wheel and a lightweight fabric hood. The SE-L specification adds LED daytime running lights, climate control air conditioning, a DAB radio, Bluetooth, cruise control and Mazda’s MZD infotainment system with a 7” screen. This fourth generation model is shorter, lower and wider than the previous model. With its front engine and rear wheel drive layout, it has a 50/50 front/rear weight distribution. CO2 exhaust emissions are 139 gm/km for the 1.5 engine and 161 gm/km with the 2.0 litre unit. Top speed for the 1.5i version is said to be 200 kph (124 mph) with 0-100 kph acceleration in 9.0 seconds. The figures for the 2.0i model are 220 kph (136 mph) with 0-100 kph in 7.5 seconds.

PEUGEOT 308 GTI The GTi version of the 308 is powered by a 1.6 litre THP engine with stop/start as standard. Buyers will have the choice of two power outputs, 183 kW and 196 kW. Both versions have a torsen limited slip differential. Other standard items are 380 mm ventilated front discs and 268 mm ventilated rear discs. Both have red brake calipers. The suspension has an 11mm lower ride height. The 183 kW model accelerates from 0-100 kph in 6.2 seconds, while the 196 kW model manages it in just 6.0 seconds. The 196 kW model is also available in the exclusive Coupe Franche colour combination of Ultimate Red and Perla Nera Black as seen in the picture above. This new 308 GTi is due to be launched next week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (25th to 28th June).
Ford Fiesta – Red/Black or Black/Red? Ford is offering potential Irish buyers two sports orientated versions of the Fiesta. Both are based on the three door body style. Both come with 16 inch or optional 17 inch alloy wheels, finished in Panther Black. Inside there is a black leather covered steering wheel, black floor mats with red stitching, charcoal coloured cloth upholstery with red stitching and red seat bolsters. The Red Edition model has a gloss black roof, while the Black Edition version has a gloss red roof. Both are powered by the excellent 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine, delivering 93 kW and with exhaust emissions of 99 gm/km. The five speed gearbox has revised ratios for a more sports orientated performance. There is a new sporty suspension with revised shock absorber settings and the electronic power assisted steering has revised settings to give a more sensitive steering.

Nemo’s Nautilus Captain Nemo's six-wheeled Nautilus car from Sean Connery’s adventure movie, “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, will be sold by international auctioneers Coys at their Blenheim Palace auction on July 11th. Designed by production designer and art director Carol Spier and one of only two made, this fully functional and complete vehicle was used throughout the film and features heavily on the promotional
posters. Chris Routledge, Managing Partner of Coys, said: “We have a long tradition of selling film, television and celebrity cars, and having such a cool car from such a cool film is really exciting. We are offering an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire one of the cars that actually appeared in “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and which will undoubtedly increase in value in years to come.” The vehicle started life as a Land Rover fire tender, adapted via a steel frame with the addition of a Rover V8 engine. The chassis is covered in an intricate ivory coloured fibreglass shell and features a wealth of elaborate embellishments in an aged gold effect on both the exterior and interior. Inspiration for the decoration was taken from the Hindu god Ganesha and assorted flora and fauna. The interior is trimmed with faux leather and even features the original Land Rover dials. The wheels each measure 72cm and hidden within the arches are hydraulics to adjust the ride height. The car retains most of its original
functionality and shows signs of wear and evidence of running repairs from onset use. In spite of this wear, the car is in running condition. For the last few years, the car has been part of a large collection of movie props and costumes at Prop Store’s UK facility. Its value is estimated at £18,000 to £25,000. Stephen Lane, founder of Prop Store, said: “I bought the Nautilus from the film company after “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” came out, because I loved the car, loved its design and felt it was one of the most emotive vehicles I have ever seen, a true design icon. I have taken it to Essen, driven it at the Lord Mayor’s Show and now feel it is time to let somebody else own it and enjoy it.” This vehicle is not legal for use on UK roads and is not suitable for conventional road driving. No warranty is made or implied as to its roadworthiness or mechanical condition. Dimensions: 662 cm x 280 cm x 140 cm (260" x 110" x 55").
