umbrella body of the farmer unions protesting against the contentious farm laws, in a press statement mentioned they had compiled the information of missing persons, and the First Information Reports or FIRs have been registered against 125 farmers. Farmer leaders also said a committee had been formed to trace those missing after the January 26 ‘tractor march’ to Delhi. However, no resolute action has been taken yet.
of them were arrested for simply covering the news and not following the government’s narrative. Mandeep Punia, a freelance correspondent who contributes to the Caravan, a leading magazine, was held up by the Delhi police at the Singhu border. He was accused of hindering the police and then of violence after he reported that the Bharatiya Janata Party( BJP) government had sent ‘locals’ to attack the protesting farmers. He was granted bail on Feb. 2 and was released from jail on Feb. 3. False and fabricated charges have been laid at a 23-year-old Dalit activist and trade unionist, Navdeep Kaur, also known as Nodeep Kaur. She has twice been refused bail. Nodeep is a member of Mazdoor Adhikar Sanghatan (MAS) and has worked to build farmers’ and labourers’ solidarity. Her family has said Kaur is being “tortured and sexually assaulted” in police custody.
The farmers have been quite vocal about their concerns regarding the produce, store and sale of their crop under the new farm bills but the government has turned hostile towards the farmers and their supporters. Before Republic Day, the government was not charging independent journalists and media houses for covering the protest. But soon after Republic Day’s violence, there have been instances of 10 journalists being harassed by the Indian government for covering farmers’ protests. activists Greta Thunberg on farmers’ protest gained international attention but are widely questioned by Indian authorities. Rihanna’s tweet was in reference to the internet services dismissed by the Indian government at protest sites. Hollywood veteran actor Susan Sarandon and many international personalities took their stance on the ongoing farmer’s protest and slammed India’s leaders. It was only hours after the tweets that started a cold war between Indian and International celebrities. India’s Ministry of External Affairs even released a statement rebuking ‘celebrities and others’ for their’ neither accurate nor responsible’ remarks. The Indian leaders and celebrities also termed it as ‘propaganda’ to threaten India’s unity. What is more interesting to note is that the tweets using #IndiaAgainstPropaganda and #IndiaTogether were similar in content and were posted around a similar time. The question here arises: what made the well-known figures in India ‘wakeup’ simultaneously and whether there
is a political conspiracy by the BJP government to make them a tweet. This action by the government shows that Mr. Modi, his cabinet and the Ministry of external affairs government can go to such a degrading level to silence the voice of reason and justice. They will rather abuse, kill, torture farmers and their supporters and divert attention when international media questions their intention instead of listening to their concerns and resolve the issue. We, the Voices for Freedom group will not be silenced, we strongly condemn the actions of the Indian government and pledge to hold all of them accountable for their actions. Our legal team in India is committed to representing individuals who are wrongfully arrested and detained and help people find the missing protestors. We are eager to provide legal support and assistance to the families of missing farmers. We also demand removing detention orders placed on those who cared enough to raise their voices against farmers’ pathetic situation.

NDP MLAs Pam Alexis and Kelli Paddon welcome new course to boost career opportunities and economic recovery in Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack New Democrat MLAs Pam Alexis and Kelli Paddon say people in the Fraser Valley will be able to re-skill or upskill to prepare for high-demand jobs, thanks to a new micro-credential program being offered at The University of the Fraser Valley. “The COVID-19 pandemic has seen many people lose their jobs or have to rethink their futures. That’s why we are thrilled to offer these new and exciting education opportunities,” said Pam Alexis, MLA for AbbotsfordMission. “These accessible courses will help British Columbians on the path to economic recovery, while strengthening their career options moving forward.” The course is part of B.C.’s economic recovery efforts to help more people find their place in the post-COVID-19 economy. “We know that balancing our lives has become even more challenging amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. As a parent, I understand how difficult it is to be able to access education outside of your day-to-day schedule,” said Kelli Paddon, MLA for Chilliwack-Kent. “These micro-credential courses will allow British Columbians to upgrade their skills and seek new career opportunities, without having to sacrifice their income or family life.” Micro-credentials are short courses that help people gain specific skills for high-demand careers. The short duration makes it easier for people to fit in learning around their work and family commitments.
The micro-credential course being offered at The University of the Fraser Valley is in Digital Marketing. The new course is one of 24 new micro-credential programs being off e r e d at 15 of B.C.’s public post-secondary institutions, supported by a total investment of $4 million ($2 million from the Province and $2 million from the Canada-BC Workforce Development Agreement). MLAs Alexis and Paddon say people whose employment has been impacted by COVID-19 will particularly benefit from these opportunities, designed to help them upskill in their current field or reskill to embark on a new career path.

I want to intensely explore dark and edgy characters : Govinda

On the web, I want to by jumping headlong into digital explore even those dark and edgy entertainment for some muchcharacters like the ones that are needed creative satisfaction. creating waves on digital “Earlier, I didn’t get offers at all. platforms,” says Govinda, adding I want to intensely explore dark that he doesn’t want people to and edgy characters. But, the judge my performance or “find it offers coming my way now don’t lacking in any way”. “I want to give me the creative satisfaction I seek as an actor,” says the actor. In the 90s, play characters that people can identify with.”
I am a supporter of independent music : Neha Bhasin
Singer Neha Bhasin is the captain of one of the teams of the upcoming music reality show, Indian Pro Music League. She says she will utilise the platform to encourage and support independent music, which has been a crucial part of her journey as an artiste."I have always been a supporter of independent music and attempt to promote the same through my label. Being a part of this league is just another attempt to do the same," she said. She further claimed: "Reality shows have been around, but there has been none like this, and that is exactly what will set everything apart."The show features new talents in six teams, each team having
two captains. Neha apart, other prominent voices on the show include Mika Singh, Shaan, Javed Ali, Asees Kaur, Bhoomi Trivedi, Ariti Kakar, Ankit Tiwari, and Shilpa Rao.Apart from the musicians, all the six teams, from different regions, will be represented by Bollywood actors like Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Govinda, Riteish Deshmukh Bobby Deol and cricketer Suresh Raina. Neha will be the captain of the team 'Delhi Jammers', which is backed by Shraddha Kapoor along with her fsther Shakti and brother Siddhant Kapoor.
I am working on a dark comedy : Renuka Shahane
Actor-director Renuka Shahane says she is toying with the idea of making a dark comedy as her third directorial venture. Shahane, known for featuring in movies such as Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Masoom and Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa, ventured into filmmaking with 2009 Marathi movie Rita, which was based on her mother’s novel Rita Welingkar. The sophomore directorial was Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy, which explored a multi-generational relationship story of mothers and daughters, starring Tanvi Azmi, Kajol and Mithila Palkar.Shahane said she will continue to direct films and has

started work on her next project.“I would like to keep directing and I am working on some scripts. I am interested in human beings, interpersonal relationships, so journeys of individuals, who live slightly unconventional lives. I also like comedies, so the next perhaps could be dark comedy and that is what I am working on right now,” Shahane saidI.The 54-year-old filmmaker was talking on the sidelines of the launch of &PriveHD’s new property, Prive world box office, which will bring movies from around the world. As an artiste, Shahane said she prefers being part of theatre because that is an actor’s medium, while cinema gives her creative satisfaction as a writer and director.“Theatre is the base for me as an actor. It is essential as grounding for most actors as the kind of space it gives to explore characters, roles, to have continuity through those hours on stage, it is better than any other medium. I will choose films as a writer and director because it (film) is visualised by a director and everybody on the set are working towards fruition of director’s vision,” she added

Discussed doing a version in my voice over a year ago : Parineeti Chopra How many of us have found comfort in Parineeti Chopra’s soothing rendition of Maana ke hum yaar nahin when nursing a broken heart? Even as fans continue to shower love on the Meri Pyaari Bindu (2017) track, the actor has gone behind the mic for her upcoming release, The Girl on the Train. “I love singing, and croon at every opportunity I get,” says Chopra, who has rendered the unplugged version of Matlabi yariyan for the Ribhu Dasgupta-directed psychological thriller. “I had heard the song in London oneand-a-half years ago when we were shooting it. That is when Ribhu and I discussed that we would do a version in my voice.” The track has been composed by Vipin Patwa with lyrics penned by Kumaar. She believes the number will be a perfect addition to her discography after Teri mitti (Kesari, 2019). “As an actor, I am privileged to get a chance to go behind the mic and have the world hear my song. I am glad that people have given so much love to my previous songs. I hope the third time’s lucky for me as well,” she says.
Vidya Balan`s Sherni to release in June? As the industry limps back to normal, filmmakers are revisiting their decisions of cracking deals with OTT giants, and considering cinematic releases instead. Makers of Vidya Balan’s Sherni, while indecisive, are also eager to have a summer theatrical release, should favourable conditions prevail. “While shooting has been completed, post-production work is on in full swing. We are yet to decide on which platform the film will release, but we are targeting a summer release; perhaps in June or July. So far, we plan to release it in theatres, but we will have to see how things pan out. We want the whole world to see it,” says producer Vikram Malhotra. A source adds that the movie, which banks on its imagery, would best be consumed on the big screen. “Given that it touches upon the subject of encroachment of forests, it has been shot in the jungles of Madhya Pradesh to lend it an authentic feel. We also filmed in Bhoot Palasi and Balaghat. It is hence apt for a cinematic release.”

UFV teacher candidates create videos highlighting Black history Students enrolled in the secondarylevel cohort of UFV’s Bachelor of Education program are filling a gap in BIPOC-focused curriculum material. In honour of Black History Month, they have created a series of videos highlighting Black Canadians and Americans. Events of the last year, especially the global reaction to the brutal killing by police of George Floyd, have heightened society’s awareness of systemic racism and its impact on BIPOC.
“In our Applications of Reflective Practice course, we were encouraged to think of ways in which we could give back to our school communities. In particular, we were encouraged to think about how we could engage with the idea of social justice in our service work at the schools. I suggested doing videos for Black History Month. “I thought back to my own school experience and realized that we rarely celebrated Black History Month and, if we did, it was only mentioned on one day of the month. With this initiative, we wanted to combat tokenism and give teachers the means to celebrate Black History Month consistently throughout the month.”
This in turn has led to educators seeking curriculum materials for their students that not only focus on issues of systemic racism but also celebrate the significant achievements of Black The students created 19 videos, one for people. each school-in-session day in February. RNs begin prescribing addiction treatment medications, a Canadian first The first cohort of registered nurses (RNs) is on track to begin prescribing medications for treatment of opioid use disorder, as part of B.C.’s leading-edge overdose response plan.
when it comes to our response. I want to thank the nurses who have stepped forward to blaze this trail and help build B.C.’s health-system capacity to reach more people and save lives.”
Thirty RNs and registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs) will complete their training this month to prescribe buprenorphine/naloxone (commonly known as Suboxone), which is a firstline opioid agonist treatment (OAT) medication. This is the first step in a phased approach to expand RNs and RPNs’ scope of practice to include prescribing addiction treatment medications. It represents a significant change in B.C.’s health-care system and an important move to better support people in under-served, rural and remote areas.
This change follows Henry’s public health order to authorize RNs and RPNs to prescribe some controlled drugs and substances. RNs and RPNs now join family physicians, psychiatrists and nurse practitioners who are already prescribing OAT medications, such as Suboxone. Training will continue with additional cohorts and will advance to include other medications, such as slow-release oral morphine and methadone, to meet the needs of more patients.
“We are coming up on five years since British Columbia declared overdose a public health emergency, and more than 6,000 people have died because of toxic street drugs since that time,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer. “The COVID-19 pandemic has put people who use drugs at much higher risk for overdose. This crisis isn’t unique to our province – it’s a national issue – but B.C. is breaking ground
“Too many people in our province are grieving the loss of someone they love, and far too many people remain at risk of overdose. Highly toxic street drugs are rampant, and we must separate people from these dangerous, unpredictable drugs,” said Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. “Expanding access to addiction treatment medications is essential to getting a handle on this crisis. We are building our capacity

Something that has been forgotten related to money could come to light either on the receiving or owing side. You might also review an area in which you had planned to spend or invest money. It could be that your priorities are changing more than you anticipated and requires a rethink on where to spend money.
There is a need to review your level of commitment or responsibility, either in relation to what is manageable personally or because new opportunities arise. What can be favourable opportunities for growth can arise. To take full advantage, you need to ensure you are not or will not be too bogged down to manage effectively.

You could see so many avenues for the development of future goals that it becomes overwhelming. Initially, you need to take a serious look at anything you feel does not have much of a future or doesn’t really interest you to continue pursuing. Being able to enjoy what you do will be paramount and you should accept nothing less.
Someone else can be extremely secretive about their intentions. This could generate frustration in you, mainly because you will feel as though they want ultimate control. The more openly you state what you would like or expect, the more secretive and illusive they will become. You need to let time take its course.
A super busy time when it comes to other people. This could include exciting new people coming into your life. It might also represent changed attitudes for the better from someone else, though this might be something you need to make them aware that you expect. It is a good time to review commitments expected of you.
Tackle anything you suspect could cause some issues when it comes to putting future goals in place. This is an excellent time to establish new habits yourself both on the health and exercise side or with matters you need to deal with on a regular basis. You could surprise yourself with inventive ways to work around things.
Take every opportunity to create greater enjoyment in all that you do. There needs to be an element of practicality underneath it all but there will be ways to expand the lighter side. Part of this might be acknowledging the pressure somebody else places on you, which is more to their benefit than yours. Work at balancing this.
Whether you like it or not, some sort of completely new structure needs to be put in place in your life. This could involve home and family matters. You could feel others want to leave you with little choice and it might be this that you need to address, especially if it has been going on for a while. Set out to turn things around

You can be brimming with new ideas or perhaps find yourself in a situation where there is a lot of new information to take on board. If you are putting forward new ideas, you need to be mindful of then dealing with the details involved in turning them into a solid reality. Getting them accepted will be easy, doing the work, not so
This is a good time to come put new directions in place, involving finances. This can include working with other people either on a personal or business level. It could also mean tidying up past debt. You have to watch taking on too much of a risk. It is better to follow your natural tendencies towards being conservative.
The New Moon this week falls in your own sign along with a number of planet combinations generating the start of new cycles. You can have feelings you have not had in a long time that give you a sense of forward movement rather than having to wait or feeling stuck. Something from the past may need rethinking.
There is a huge amount going on behind the scenes and much of it can produce some good results in the future. At the moment, you are being encouraged to look at what you need to let go of in order to bring some newness to life. Part of this might be taking up an interest in something that involved you mentally in the past.

Funding supports businesses to launch online
he new Launch Online Grant program is designed to help over 1,500 eligible small- and medium-sized B.C. businesses adapt to changes in consumer behaviour and pivot to market their products online. The B.C. government is investing $12 million to help businesses launch or upgrade an online store that will provide the platform they need to increase their sales revenues, become more competitive and grow. Up to 25% of the program funds will be reserved for regional and Indigenous businesses. Businesses need access to the tools and supports that will help them adapt and pivot during this uniquely challenging time,” said Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation. “This program will provide business owners with the ability to expand their online presence and create a customized e-commerce site that will give them the boost they need to keep moving forward.”
People have increased their reliance on online shopping with over $305 billion in e-commerce sales in Canada in 2019. E-commerce sales are projected to have doubled through 2020 and are expected to increase further in 2021.
Grant recipients can use the funding for a variety of online-related expenses, including pictures, creating an online inventory system, advertising costs, subscription costs of an e-commerce platform and training staff to These grants will provide business manage the website. owners, including those in hard-hit sectors such as retail, tourism and “Expanding our business online has restaurants, with up to $7,500 to build been key to helping grow our sales or improve their online store and pro- in B.C. and beyond,” said Amy Hall, mote BuyBC at a local, national and founder, Goldilocks Wraps. “Goldiinternational level. locks is built on the premise of zero waste.
