StrongerBC program creates new jobs, opportunities The Province is providing more than 5,000 youth and young adults across British Columbia with access to skills training and well-paid jobs through the almost $45-million StrongerBC Future Leaders Program. “This pandemic has set back many young people from starting their careers. We’re providing first-rate training and in-demand jobs that can lead to fulfilling, long-term careers,” said Premier John Horgan. “Providing young adults with opportunities for stable, good jobs can change the direction of their lives, while helping British Columbia come back stronger and more resilient.”

People and communities throughout B.C. will have increased capacity to address racism and discrimination, and build intercultural trust and understanding as more than 190 new projects have received support through the BC Multiculturalism Grants program. Funding for the Multiculturalism Grants Program was increased fourfold to more than $1.2 million in 2020-21 to deliver more anti-racism initiatives. Priority for these recent grants was given to projects addressing antiIndigenous, anti-Asian and anti-Black racism.

Funding is provided to a range of community-based organizations for projects that build intercultural interaction, trust and understanding, or challenge racism, hate and systemic barriers. “This funding will help support IBPOC-led non-profits in their efforts to advance racial equity and justice in their communities,” said Niki Sharma, Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development and Non-Profits. “This has been a challenging time and the non-profit sector has been working tirelessly over the last year to meet the increased demand for programs and services.”

First and foremost, Rhett wants to ensure our community that he will be a voice for youth. “This is something I have been doing for nearly 20 years. We can accomplish a lot if we work together to help our children. They need role models, activities where they can fit in and feel accomplished. A chance to mingle with diversity and find commonalities with people they would normally not connect with.” Youth and family is and always has been a top priority for Rhett. As the co-owner of Sue’s Copy Place, Rhett knows how important it is to support our local businesses. “Covid has taken a toll on small businesses. I want to help them rebuild their hope and look to the future. These local businesses shape our culture and community. They provide us with service that online providers cannot.” Rhett will be there for Mission’s local business. Unfortunately, city costs will always rise. This means property taxes will also increase. To stabilize property tax, Mission needs to mitigate those cost increases. What tools do we have? 1. Diversify tax base; maximize Mission’s limited commercial and industrial space. 2. Build to stabilize; condos, apartments and higher densities yield higher tax revenue per land use, which will subsidize established residential neighbourhoods. 3. Optimize our

development department. Having chaired the Development Department during his time on City Council, Rhett sees development as an asset. A smart city will have a hardworking development department. This will provide well planned and fast construction. “Development is the business side of the local government, working with our developers is how we can increase speed and efficiency.” Development not only provides the needed housing but it also generates revenue to keep property tax lower. Development also ties into housing affordability. Supply and demand. “We have no supply. It’s not a build for the sake of building situation. We need transition homes for empty nesters and affordable homes for young adults. Families need to have a safe and stable place to live. To combat rising housing prices for rental or purchase, we need to build smart & fast.” Rhett works well in a council setting. “I have four successful years of council experience and have served with members of our current council.” Rhett is not afraid of hard work; he thrives on it. Online Interpreting Course Available for Punjabi and Hindi Speakers The Interpreter’s Lab announces the launch of an online course to help Punjabi and Hindi speakers become interpreters Surrey, BC – Due to the pandemic, many businesses have closed their doors and faced significant changes in the world of business, however remote interpreting services have remained essential for people with limited English – during COVID-19 and beyond.

The Interpreter’s Lab provides quality interpreter education and professional development. Based in British Columbia, The Interpreter’s Lab courses are aimed at interpreters wanting to specialize in community, legal, healthcare and mental health care. Founder and Director Angela Sasso established The Interpreter’s Lab in 2012. Sasso is a veteran educator dedicated to equitable and quality language services. Research has shown that professional interpreters facilitate vital and effective communication as some groups of people are at increased risk due to their limited language proficiency. “Trends also indicate employment of interpreters are growing at a much

faster rate than the average for all occupations,” says Angela Sasso, of The Interpreter’s Lab. Employment growth reflects increasing globalization and a more diverse Canadian population creating more need for the quality language services that interpreters and translators provide. “Amid the global health crisis, this year has also seen an increase in many organizations adding video remote interpretation to their language services,” says Archana Chauhan, a multilingual Interpreter and an Instructor with The Interpreter’s Lab. Interpreting in Community Settings is a foundational skills course now being offered in a special bilingual program to Punjabi and Hindi speakers wanting to become interpreters. This short, online program covers core skills and competencies required of interpreters including notetaking and listening skills, consecutive interpreting practice, ethics and standards of practice, interpreting protocols and more. The course, which includes live, virtual classroom instruction, will teach participants to work in a range of settings and government services while preparing them to take the CTTIC exam to become a Certified Community Interpreter. The course involves 20 hours of online instruction, plus additional self-directed course materials and runs from April 28 – May 15, 2021. For more information and to register visit, https://www.interpreterslab.org/interpreter-training/ interpreting-in-community-settings/

It was difficult for me to laugh on screen : Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan has revealed that it was difficult for him to laugh on screen while in character. The reason, he says, was he was always “so tensed up” and learning how to “let go” has been one of the joys of his life. Hrithik wrote, “Used to be so difficult for me to laugh on screen. So tensed up all the time. Learning to let go has been one of the joys of my life.”It is not clear what Hrithik is referring to. But perhaps he means he retained a bit of stage fright even when he became a professional actor. Faking emotions and drama does not come naturally to people and it takes years of practice to develop the craft, even if like Hrithik, one is the son of a well-known personality in the film industry.Hrithik appeared as a child actor in many films, but it was 2000’s Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai that marked his debut in a lead role. Written and directed by his father Rakesh Roshan, the film was

a hit and instantly made Hrithik a star. He has done mostly romantic and action films, and has seen both huge successes and crushing failures in his more than two decades old career. Hrithik is best known for films like Koi… Mil Gaya, Jodhaa Akbar, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Super 30 among others. Apart from his acting, and well, striking good looks, he is also renowned in the country for his dancing skills. Hrithik was last seen in War. The actionthriller was helmed by Siddharth Anand and also starred Tiger Shroff. He will next be seen in the remake of acclaimed Tamil neonoir thriller Vikram Vedha

Ileana keeps entertaining her followers with regular workout posts. The actress enjoys a fan following of 13.1 million on Instagram and 2.7 Twitter followers. I do agree on the motivation part because oddly enough posting about my workouts motivates me to workout as well. So, it makes me want to get up and 'I should

Favouritism exists in every profession : Amit Sadh

Actor Amit Sadh agrees there is favouritism in the film industry, but he points out that the trait exists in all professions. "Favouritism exists in the whole world, in every profession, but there are also people who value me and my talent, and who believe in me, stand by me," he said. The actor says he has been

do it'," the actress said. Ileana made her big screen debut in 2006 with the Telugu f i l m "Devadasu". She made a name in Telugu cinema with hits such as "Pokiri", "Jalsa", "Kick", and "Julayi". It was in 2012, she made her Hindi film debut with Anurag Basu's "Barfi!". She then starred in "Main Tera Hero", "Rustom", "Baadshaho" and "Raid". "I still feel like there is so much more I could have done and there is so much more that I want to do, and there is no stopping when it comes to my work right now. There is no looking back for me. I can't imagine doing anything else and there is so much more I want to do. I am weirdly hungrier now for work than how I was when I started out," Ileana said.

lucky in his career. "I have been very fortunate, and I am always very positive. We have to understand that in any industry, everyone doesn't need to work with everyone. However, we must cater to the ultimate goal as actors," he says.Amit, who is part of the web series "7 Kadam", says the ultimate goal of an actor is to make good content. "We are here to entertain the audience and also have a responsibility to make responsible cinema, as cinema is a huge influence in our country," he says.

Will always respect all my films as they gave me work : Yami Gautam Yami Gautam, who plays an IPS officer in the upcoming "Dasvi", says she will always respect all her films because these projects gave her work and sustained her through the years."One thing I learnt in my journey so far is when I had come to the city for the first time, I came with a sense of fearlessness. I was a shy girl and have always been a reserved person but I was fearless. I didn't have the fear of saying no to something I didn't believe in it," Yami said. The actress has made a mark over the years with her roles in films such as "Vicky Donor", "Kaabil", "Uri: The Surgical Strike", "Badlapur" and "Bala". "I will always have respect for all the films I have done because at that point of time that was what gave me work. I will never be

disrespectful to anybody or any film, even the ones that didn't do well or weren't good films. In your heart, you know that it's not going to be a good film. Knowing that and still signing it comes from a sense of fear. Now I am back to being the same Yami who does not have fear," she adds.Yami claims good work will always be her criterion of success."The most important thing for me has been always been to prioritise working on myself as an actor. There will always be senior actors but it's about who is a good actor. There is a space for every film and actor but for someone like me, it's important to know what is the depth in the character versus if it's a big film or big budget. It's the script that is important for me," she says.

A very busy week ahead for you with plenty of opportunity to move forward, though you will have to watch distractions because of so much happening at once. The New Moon occurs in your sign bringing new beginnings. Endings will be part of the process. How you feel will depend on whether you think you have a choice.

Venus, your ruling planet, will move into your sign this week where it will remain until 9th May. This can bring with it a sense of calm on a personal level. There is a lot going on behind the scenes that you know you can do little to change. The main thing is to ensure you do not generously take on obligations. It won’t be worth it.

You could realise it is time to change your priorities. Pressure from the expectations of somebody else could have a lot to do with it but this does not necessarily mean you need to accept what they want. Having this thrust upon you could get you to think more seriously about what is important for your own future.

There is a need to approach obligations in a new way, especially when it comes to dealing with somebody who either has power, or thinks they have. In all likelihood they will be held more responsible and need to work with you, so don’t let this get passed off onto you. There could be support for you that you are unaware of.

Detailed work put into any plans you have for the future will pay off handsomely as these things are pursued later. With this could come an awareness of changes you could make that would be beneficial. Anything that requires response from others can prove to be very popular, even bring a lot more than you had anticipated initially

If you are finding the expectations of others take up your free time, now is the time to make changes once and for all. You are probably better equipped to set out a plan so that they learn to manage for themselves. Then you need to be determined to take the action of removing yourself from any obligations that are not yours.

that you do not get too drawn into their matters changes to daily routine can certainly place and wanting to please them only to find that you in a good position to put a foundation in this will distract you from pursuing your own place that has can positively grow in the future. goals.

There can be much to enjoy in the company of others or in any situation that involves creativity, leisure or pleasure. If an exchange of ideas is part of the process, much headway can be made that will not only please you but any other people involved. You should not be tempted to lay out any large sums of money.

Do not leave any necessity to get something organised for future development, which might include home or family matters. Something new will be part of the process that will require you to put some work into the details. This will not be difficult but you could easily be lazy about it. It is important you keep control.

You should feel good about yourself and be primarily optimistic about personal opportunities. New information or ideas can come your way – look into them as they could be more beneficial than you initially presume. You will need to look out for hidden aspects that could be restrictive but you should be used to that by now.

New opportunities could come up regarding finances, even a job. If they don’t seem to fit in with present priorities you should perhaps take a closer look. There could be greater benefits than first seems obvious that will only surface if you are prepared to seek more information. This may challenge you to alter your priorities.
