After a car accident—particularly a major accident that caused serious injury—it can be challenging to get the medical support you need and the compensation you deserve. Unfortunately, COVID-19 temporarily ground things to a halt, making personal injury claims even more challenging. Many treatment options were unavailable, and Court operations were suspended, including all trials. The good news is that BC Courts have since adapted to the “new normal,” and both in-person and virtual options are possible for hearing ICBC claims. ICBC Trials Temporarily Suspended Due to COVID-19 Most serious personal injury claims are heard in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. On March 19, 2020, all regular operations of the Supreme Court of British Columbia were suspended to protect health and safety and to help contain the spread of COVID-19. Several ICBC trials had to be adjourned as a result. To keep matters moving, the BC Supreme Court began offering alternatives to in-person attendance (e.g., an appearance by teleconference or remote video conference using Microsoft Teams) for steps leading up to trials, such as Judicial Case Conferences, chambers matters, and Trial Management Conferences.

Stephen Yung Lawyer Simpson, Thomas & Associates

At this point, in-person attendance for trial is the default, but Judges, masters and registrars have the discretion to direct otherwise depending on the circumstances. Trial Management Conferences (“TMCs”) should be used to address issues with the ability to attend court in person. TMCs are currently proceeding by telephone unless the Court otherwise orders. If any person is reluctant to attend for trial in person due to health-related concerns or other reasons related to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Court is unlikely to require that person to attend. Requests for alternative options should be made at the TMC. A consistently happy, loving presence in my life for as long as I can remember — he personified what it means to be a stand-up human being. So much so, that throughout his life, people often referred to him as "saint." He was humble and kind, and his life-long values centred around dedicating himself to working hard and earning an honest living, providing for his family through good and difficult times, and being devoted to God, as a discipline. He lived life to the fullest by taking great joy in simple things, and moving through life with a child-like lightheartedness and sense of humour. He had a special gift of of making all of his family feel loved equally, while making each of us feel uniquely special. He was somehow always unproblematic, and he was warmly welcoming and hospitable to anyone who crossed paths with him. During his last days in hospice, his caregivers told us he spent his waking moments in prayer. He was not able to communicate with them, so each time they did anything for him, he would humbly press his two palms together (an Indian greeting) and nod at them in gratitude. He remained committed to being kind and humble until his last breaths. I will miss his physical presence in my life, and remember him always, trying to carry with me the values he taught us by just being who he was. I have no doubt he is at peace now and for always.

Your COVID-19 vaccination questions get answers (NC) If you’re currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, you likely have a lot of questions around what to expect. Some common items in the news include concerns about side effects, vaccine hesitancy and whether you can take pain and fever medications to combat side effects after your shot. Knowing what to expect can help you feel more prepared for your appointment. Here’s what we know: The process of developing immunity post vaccination could cause symptoms such as fever, pain and/ or swelling at the injection site, as well as other systemic side effects that include headache, fatigue, and/ or muscle pain. These symptoms are normal and are a sign that the body is building immunity.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines showed efficacy of over 94 per cent, implying that the use of pain-relief medicines after the shot did not blunt the immune response to the vaccine. Health authorities and scientific professional societies in Canada, USA and Europe, including Health Canada and the CDC, recommend talking to your doctor about using a pain or fever-reducing medication, such as Advil (ibuprofen), following a vaccination should you experience any side effects. When it’s time to get your COVID-19 vaccination, staying informed will help you feel more comfortable and prepared. Once vaccinated, continue to take smart safety measures such as washing your hands, wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.

If you have a lot of mould (greater than one square metre), it comes back after repeated cleanings, or someone in your household suffers from asthma or other respiratory problems as a result of mould, consider hiring a professional. Remember, a large amount of mould is often the result of a bigger problem, like a leak in the foundation or a major flood, which you may need a professional to help fix. You can come up with some inventive solutions when it comes to finances required for anything you want to put in place. You ideas can be clever, yet practical. This can also apply to conversations or agreements that you might need to enter into. It all may take more time than you initially anticipate to arrive at a final conclusion.

The New Moon this week occurs in your sign providing you with the opportunity to take new directions with something important to you on a personal level. It may also bring an opportunity you do not expect. You could be unusually forthright with something you have to say. There maybe the need to deal with technology as well.

Mental clarity when it comes to future goals worth pursuing may make you realise that what somebody else expects is not necessarily for you. Don’t expect to have all of the answers just yet. Some sort of initial commitment may be necessary from now until late July. This may not become rock solid until January to May next year.

New opportunities to take action on something that is an important priority to you can present itself quite surprisingly. This may involve a group of people in some way. Somebody who is in a position to support you will willingly do so. This might require some behind the scenes communication. It will be one step at a time.

Don’t presume there to be a totally straightforward path when it comes to any new commitments involving other people. It would be wise of you to verbalise what is important to you. Exactly what others expect from their connection to you will be difficult to know just now. This could become more obvious from late July.

You are in a good position to streamline daily routines by dropping anything that takes too much time. This can alter your commitments mainly because you will focus on your priorities more. Activity with others will increase significantly to late July. This could also include forming beneficial relationships and gaining recognition.

want to refuse but you will need to know how this could be put into place successfully. Make room for them to change their mind up to mid July.

Some very constructive exchange of ideas between you and others can occur. This can involve some sort of underlying change of structure for you up to late July. It can take all of this time to get something fully sorted to your satisfaction. Be careful about being too generous of yourself and ending up with most of the work.

Being diligent with work that needs to be done can bring some stable financial results. You could also generate financial improvement through taking a closer look at your spending. Changes on a pleasurable or social level could bring new people into your life that can be different to normal but interesting at the same time.

Commit yourself to anything you think you might enjoy. It could take until mid July to either fully find out or settle yourself into it. You could suddenly find the energy to get to work on something you want to restructure. This could include matters to do with home and family. You need to be mindful of financial costs attached.

You will initially begin a new 12 Year Cycle with Jupiter, your ruling planet moving into your sign until the 28th July. This will be stage one – stage two will occur late December to May 2022. New ideas can spring to mind that will give you a sense of optimism that may have been lacking of late. A new you can begin to emerge.

If almighty got me from chawl to stardom, he has a plan : Jackie Shroff Jackie Shroff has been in Bollywood for almost four decades and is universally loved as a star and a human being. The actor says he does not have the fear of losing stardom because he feels that god surely seems to have a plan for him. Jackie Shroff was touted as Bollywood's new big thing when he made a blockbuster as lead actor in Subhash Ghai's 1983 film "Hero". Through the decades, his notable films have included "Ram Lakhan", "Yudh", "Karma", "Parinda", "Tridev", "Kala Bazaar", "Vardi", "Doodh Ka Karz", "100 Days", "Angaar", "Khalnayak", "Rangeela", "Agnisakshi", "Bandhan", and the recent "Radhe". It has been a journey where Jackie, 64, has taken the rough with the smooth. Has the thought of losing stardom ever scared him? "Nothing. No fear. If god has got you here he

No one can teach you to act : Kasahika Kaaapoor Actress Kashika Kapoor feels no one can teach an artiste how to act, adding that acting workshops and classes can just make the craft fun for an artiste. "Nobody can make you an actor or teach the art of acting to you. Acting workshops have only made it fun and consistent for me to practise acting, not learn acting. I'd rather put in my own skills than trying to adapt to someone else's. That's the best part about acting. I'm a born actor and I know it. I don't need to learn acting. I'm bound to practise it," she declared. She added that she comes from a background that has nothing to do with showbiz. "I belong to a simple

family where we didn't have any association with the entertainment industry, but it was my passion for this art that made me pursue acting. Growing up, I used to watch a lot of movies and listen to Bollywood music. Soon I developed an interest in acting. With the support of my family, I started learning singing, Kathak and martial arts at the age of five," she says. However, she adds that she has always tried to get to know more about the craft. "When I was in the 10th grade, I went to one of the studios in Mumbai to practise acting for six months. I also practised acting for two years at the renowned Film Academy in New York. I believe that having knowledge in the various creative arts will help me achieve my dream of becoming an actress," she added.

has made a position and will take you somewhere. If the almighty has got you from a chawl to stardom with so much affection, then he has a plan. So, just relax and float," Jackie reveals his mantra to said. "Grow, open up, love more. Get the energy and take the energy and give affection. Keep yourself right. Don't pay attention to what others say or do. If someone needs help, give them that. Don't mean harm to anyone and life is sorted," says Jackie, who does a comic turn as hero Salman Khan's senior cop and heroine Disha Patani's elder brother in his new release "Radhe", which is directed by Prabhudeva.

10 Years of `Pyaar Ka Punchnama`: Nushrratt Bharuccha remembers the character `Neha`

A s 'Pyaar ka Punchnama' clocks 10 years to its release, Nushrratt Bharuccha expresses her gratitude for the film and the character that put her on the map of the industry. In the film, the actress portrayed the iconic character of a mean, foxy girlfriend 'Neha', with a performance that went on to become one of the most memorable performances of all time. Expressing her gratitude, Nushrratt says, "When I look back to the time we were shooting for Pyaar Ka Punchnama - none of us had the faintest clue what wonders this film will do for us, or even how this film will eventually

turn into a power-packed franchise. Playing the controlling and manipulative girlfriend like Neha, was so not me in real life, which made it even more difficult for me to understand her and essay her right." She further adds, "A lot of people then advised me to not do this film and wait for another better opportunity because this film had no known faces, a first time director, first time producer, the whole team was new. But PKP, opened up a world of opportunities for me, and 'Neha' literally marked me on the map of the industry, and created a unique identity for the audience to remember me by. I truly believe in Destiny, and that the Universe has a larger plan for each of us. This is why I can honestly say, the film chose me, I didn't choose the film. It was meant to be this way.”

Grateful to get the opportunity to choose contrasting roles : Rakul Preet Singh Actor Rakul Preet Singh says “experimentation” in movie writing has enabled performers to pick varied and contrasting roles. The 30-year-old actor made her debut in Hindi cinema with Yaariyan in 2014 and later featured in Neeraj Pandey-directed Aiyaary and Ajay Devgn-starrer De De Pyaar De. “I think it’s a great time where people are writing different kinds of scripts, that possibly the audiences are looking to watch. The experimentation that’s happening is different and that leads us to get that opportunity to be able to choose those different roles,” Singh said. “I am very grateful that I have an opportunity to be able to choose these different kinds of roles.

PAGE 34

And each character is different and contrasting,” she added. Singh has an interesting slate of films set for release, including Anubhuti Kashyap’s campus comedy-drama Doctor G and Devgn’s directorial Mayday. She will also reportedly feature in Ronnie Screwvala-produced movie Chhatriwali and Indra Kumar’s slice-of-life comedy. Talking about her process of choosing projects, Singh said she just follows her instincts. “I don’t think much as an actor. I just go by my instincts. I feel great that I am getting to do what I want to do. I think about one day at a time. I feel very grateful that I have these films and I am looking forward to having more work,” she said
