Inspired by the natural elements of the project site, the design team for the Singing Hills Recreation Center sought to enhance the beauty of the area by creating a facility that mimics the natural landscape in an abstracted way. By trimming the underbrush and lower limbs of the densely treed area, a space for human activity to take place among nature was revealed. The solid stone base establishes a natural material palette while the transparent glass walls showcase activity within the recreation center and create a sightlight to the incoming train traffic. At the completion of Phase 2, the new LEED Silver center now includes a full size gymnasium with seating for 300, game room, a fitness room, an exercise room, a multipurpose community room, a new Senior Center, and a new Technology Center.
