One of the major fundraising events of the year is the annual Dan Cooper Swing for Kids’ Sake golf tournament which raises tens of thousands of dollars each year for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton. Last May’s fundraiser golf tournament was at the prestigious Pipers’ Heath Golf Club and we raised over $40,000 which went to the funding of critical programs and mentoring for youth at risk. There are hundreds of youth who need our help. We live in an affluent community and it is easy to be unaware of the number of countless families who are struggling to make ends meet. It is often the children and teenagers in these

families who are hurt by poverty or a troubled home life. For nearly 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters have been making a positive difference in the lives of our nation’s youth by developing and implementing a wide range of mentoring programs. They offer one-to-one and group programs for both in school and outside of school. These youth are our future politicians, business people and community leaders. To abandon them would be unthinkable. It is our duty to ensure they are given all the advantages we can provide for them to succeed. Witnessing the transformation of a child into a confident, concerned and motivated young
person is a remarkable thing.
