Thousands join Education Above All Foundation’s Walk for Education Fair
Thousands gathered at MIA Park for the Walk for Education: CSR & Sustainability Fair, organised by the Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, a global development and education organisation. The community event, held in celebration of the United Nations International Day of Education, highlighted the power of collective action in advancing EAA’s mission to provide inclusive and quality education for marginalised children worldwide.
The event, which ran from 1pm to 9pm, brought together individuals, families, corporations, and organisations for a day of fun, engagement, and purpose. Three symbolic walks were held at 2pm, 4pm, and 7pm, where participants demonstrated their shared commitment to ensuring access to education for every child. The Walk for Education became a lively celebration of education’s transformative role in building a sustainable future.
“Education is the foundation of progress and equality, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure every child has access to this basic right,” said Taj Suliman, Director of Communications and Private Sector Partnerships at EAA Foundation. “Today, thousands came together not just to walk but to stand as one community supporting education for all. This event reflects the essence of the International Day of Education—a call to action to ensure every child’s right to learn and thrive.”
The fair offered diverse activities for all ages, including football tournaments, art competitions, calligraphy workshops, and bouncy castles. The ‘Buy a Brick, Build a School’ campaign enabled participants to contribute directly to Assalam Schools’ development.
Food stalls, live stage performances, and CSR showcases from sponsors added vibrancy to the day. EAA Foundation expressed its gratitude to sponsors, including QNB, Carrefour, Doha Marriott Worldwide Business Councils, Al Abdulghani Motors, Megamart, Baladna, Apparel Group, Yalla Toys, and KPMG, for their support in making the event a success.
“At Qatar National Bank, we are proud to support initiatives that strengthen communities and empower future generations through education,” said a representative from QNB. “This event exemplifies the power of collective action, and seeing thousands come together for such an important cause is truly inspiring.”
Proceeds from the event will benefit Assalam Schools, part of the EAA Foundation’s Together Project, which helps children overcome barriers to education and unlock their potential. The event’s impressive turnout underscored the community’s dedication to education as a cornerstone for a brighter future.

SHAPING LUXURY: THE VISIONARIES BEHIND ALFARDAN JEWELLERY
Azqa Haroon sits down with Mr. Ali Hussain Alfardan, president of Alfardan Jewellery, to discuss heritage, innovation, and the evolving landscape of luxury.
A leading authority in the international jewellery and watch industry, Mr. Alfardan has played a pivotal role in shaping Qatar’s luxury market. Under his leadership, Alfardan Jewellery has become synonymous with exclusivity and elegance, curating some of the most prestigious brands in the world. In this exclusive conversation, he shares insights on the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition 2025, the brand’s commitment to innovation, and what defines true luxury.
QH: What excites you the most about Doha Jewellery & Watches Exhibition (DJWE) 2025 this year?
Ali Hussain Alfardan: This year holds special significance for us at Alfardan. Last year, we celebrated our 70th anniversary, and now we have the privilege of hosting esteemed brands marking their own milestones. One such brand is Vacheron Constantin, celebrating 270 years, and we are incredibly proud that they have chosen Doha for this occasion.
To commemorate this, they have unveiled two remarkable timepieces. The first, the American 1921 in platinum with Indian numerals and a striking green dial, is a creation I had the honour of contributing to. The second is the highly coveted 222 in steel, both being showcased for the first time here in Doha.
Additionally, our collaboration with Tiffany & Co. is another highlight. As part of our agreement, they have acquired exquisite natural pearls from our Al Tawash collection, and these are being unveiled in Doha for the very first time. This partnership beautifully represents Qatar’s rich pearl-diving heritage in Tiffany’s iconic designs.
Chopard is also making a grand statement with over eight exclusive new models, all premiering in Doha before anywhere else in the world. This exclusivity adds to the prestige of the event.
Furthermore, our in-house brand Al Tawash, a project my father has been deeply involved in, is introducing an exceptional new collection. Noudar is unveiling a fresh Henna-inspired jewellery line, which has made its debut at this exhibition. Even within our family, there’s exciting innovation—my niece, Zuhour is launching a new jewellery line, which we are eager to expand.
Overall, there are many exclusive launches and exciting moments, making this year’s exhibition truly special.
QH: Alfardan Jewellery has been instrumental in bringing luxury international brands to Qatar. Do you follow specific criteria when selecting brands?
Ali Hussain Alfardan: Absolutely. We carefully assess the market’s needs and ensure that any brand we introduce aligns with the preferences of our clientele. Beyond that, we actively participate in the design process. If a brand presents models that don’t quite suit our region, we collaborate to refine them.
For instance, we recently introduced Arabic-inspired jewellery crafted in mother-of-pearl—a first for us. Creating jewellery from mother-of-pearl requires time and precision, making this a limited-edition collection. However, its reception has been phenomenal.
Another exciting innovation we are introducing is our miracle bracelet. This unique design enhances the visual impact of diamonds, making them appear significantly larger than their actual carat size. A 10-pointer diamond, for example, looks like a 30- or even 40-pointer. This collection offers remarkable value, making high-end luxury more accessible.
These innovations reflect our commitment to both timeless classics and modern trends, ensuring we remain at the forefront of the luxury jewellery industry.
QH: What is Alfardan Jewellery’s vision for the future? Where do you see the brand in the next ten years?
Ali Hussain Alfardan: As the third generation takes an active role in Alfardan Jewellery, our vision is to solidify our position as a leading luxury jewellery house in the Middle East. We already have a strong presence in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Muscat, with plans for further expansion soon.
While we remain dedicated to classic luxury, we also recognise the evolving preferences of the new generation. Today’s market trends demand a balance between tradition and contemporary appeal. We are constantly adapting to global trends while maintaining our signature craftsmanship and exclusivity.
Our goal is to continue setting benchmarks in luxury jewellery, offering pieces that resonate with both heritage and modernity, ensuring that Alfardan remains synonymous with excellence for generations to come.
Noor Ali Hussain Alfardan is a rising force in the world of fine jewellery. As the vice president of Alfardan Jewellery and founder of Noudar, she blends heritage with modernity, crafting exquisite designs that celebrate Arabic artistry. From childhood inspirations to becoming one of the industry’s most influential women, Noor shares her journey, vision, and the future of luxury jewellery with Azqa Haroon.
QH: What excites you most about DJWE 2025?
Noor: The exclusive new collections and the limited-edition pieces showcased by various brands.
QH: What is the inspiration behind Noudar?
Noor: Noudar draws from traditional Arabic jewellery, reimagined into contemporary designs for everyday elegance.
QH: Any advice for aspiring jewellery designers?
Noor: Stay true to yourself, your creativity, and your unique aesthetic vision.
DOLCE & GABBANA X ALFARDAN JEWELLERY UNVEIL EXCLUSIVE TIMEPIECES
Dolce & Gabbana collaborated with Alfardan Jewellery to present a special watch collection, blending Italian creativity with Swiss craftsmanship. These exquisite timepieces reimagined iconic models with refined techniques, rare gemstones, and luxurious colour variations.
Highlights included the Sofia watch, featuring an 18kt rose gold Milano-link bracelet, diamonds, and a motherof-pearl dial. The DG7 series introduced engraved and inlaid designs, while the DG7 Tapered watches showcased timeless elegance in white and rose gold with diamond embellishments.
The collection was showcased at the Alfardan Jewellery booth at DJWE 2025 and later made available at select boutiques.
QATARI DESIGNERS SHINED AT DJWE 2025
The 21st edition of DJWE celebrated Qatari designers, showcasing exceptional talent and craftsmanship. One & Only Jewellery, Alya Jewellery, and M Royal made their debut, captivating audiences with unique designs.
One & Only Jewellery blended modern elegance with timeless appeal, while Alya Jewellery, founded by AlJawhara and Maryam Al Thani, specialised in custom 18k gold and diamond pieces. M Royal, led by a Qatari female designer, drew inspiration from nature’s beauty, transforming peonies and butterflies into exquisite jewellery.
Returning exhibitors continued to push boundaries. Al Ghala Jewellery, founded by Shaikha Al Ghanem, honoured Qatar’s pearling heritage with gold, diamonds, and gemstones. Ghand Jewellery, by Hissa and Jawaher Al Mannai, showcased pieces inspired by pearl diving and Arab-Islamic art. Kaltham’s Pavilion, by Kaltham Al Majid, impressed with diamonds, sapphires, and intricate gold craftsmanship.
Organized by Qatar Tourism and Visit Qatar, DJWE remained a premier B2B and B2C platform, fostering cultural exchange and industry connections.
ALFARDAN JEWELLERY UNVEILED SOLEVRE AT DJWE 2025
Alfardan Jewellery redefined luxury with the launch of Solevre at DJWE 2025, an exclusive addition to its prestigious portfolio.
Solevre’s debut featured white gold and platinum bracelets adorned with dazzling diamonds, designed to maximize brilliance—a 10-pointer sparkled like a 30-pointer, while a 50-pointer mirrored a full carat. Crafted with high-grade G-colour diamonds, the collection blended elegance, sophistication, and modernity, catering to all styles and budgets.
A testament to Alfardan Jewellery’s excellence, Solevre’s surprise unveiling made DJWE 2025 an unmissable event for fine jewellery enthusiasts.
CHOPARD AT DJWE 2025
From January 30 to February 5, 2025, Chopard showcased an exceptional collection of high jewellery, fine jewellery, and exclusive timepieces, including Qatar-edition watches at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Center.
Returning for its 21st edition, DJWE featured Chopard’s handcrafted Geneva-made watches, with the L’Heure du Diamant collection as the booth’s highlight. Visitors also admired Haute Joaillerie pieces from the Red Carpet Collection by Caroline Scheufele, first unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival.
Alongside these masterpieces, Chopard’s signature collections— Happy Diamonds, Happy Hearts, and Ice Cube—were on display. The watch lineup included iconic models such as Happy Sport, Alpine Eagle, and Imperiale for women, while men explored the Mille Miglia, Alpine Eagle, and L.U.C collections.

CELEBRATING
OF QATAR HAPPENING: A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE
When I look back at the journey of Qatar Happening (QH), I feel an immense sense of pride and responsibility. For 25 years, this magazine has been more than just a publication; it has been a storyteller, a trendsetter, and a reflection of Qatar’s evolving landscape. From its early days as a premium print magazine with an exclusive VIP distribution to its seamless transition into the digital era, QH has always been at the forefront of media innovation.
The foundation of QH was built on passion. The late Ahmad Hassan Bilal, the magazine’s former chairman, was a visionary who truly believed in the power of storytelling and media. His commitment to delivering quality content made the magazine a household name in Qatar. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in every story we share.
One of our proudest achievements was initiating the Qatar Choice Awards, a pioneering platform that celebrated excellence in various industries. Though we no longer host these awards, being the first to introduce them in Qatar is a milestone we cherish. It speaks volumes about our influence in shaping the country’s media and entertainment landscape.
My journey with QH has been an incredible one. With over 18 years in the media industry in Qatar, I had the privilege of working closely with Ahmad Hassan Bilal (late). Those formative years allowed me to develop deeprooted connections within the media industry and understand the pulse of our audience. Later, alongside my partner at Innov8, Manu Parmar, we took over the magazine, navigating its transition into the dynamic digital world.
As of 2025, I have taken full charge of QH as its editor-in-chief and creative director, and my vision is clear: to cement QH as a leading digital platform. The world of media has changed, and digital storytelling is now the most powerful tool. We aim to be the pioneers in bringing exclusive interviews with Qatar’s esteemed personalities, offering insights into luxury and hospitality, and covering the most sought-after fashion and lifestyle
events. Our goal is to ensure that QH remains the go-to platform for everything happening in Doha and beyond.
Now, as we look ahead, we are stepping into the realm of Qatar Happening Luxury. Qatar is synonymous with opulence, and our next chapter is all about embracing and showcasing the finest experiences this country has to offer. Whether it’s high-end fashion,
elite events, or luxury hospitality, we are committed to taking our readers on an unparalleled journey of sophistication and exclusivity.
QH has thrived for 25 years, and this is just the beginning. The legacy continues, and I am honoured to lead it into the future, ensuring that it remains a powerful voice in Qatar’s ever-evolving media landscape.
THE ART OF ITALIAN FINE DINING
Azqa Haroon had the chance to experience Scarpetta, a restaurant that takes inspiration from iconic Italian classics and adapts them to modern social life. With its presence spanning several countries, this renowned dining destination is celebrated for its rich flavours and exquisite presentation. In the heart of Doha, Scarpetta enchants its warm yet sophisticated ambience, where every dish tells a story of authenticity, artistry, and innovation, creating a truly memorable dining experience.
A taste of Italian elegance
The evening began with a selection of carefully curated appetisers. The charred octopus was a delightful mix of textures and flavours, featuring marble potatoes, artichoke, celery, scallion, and guazzetto. This dish balanced tenderness with a subtle smokiness that enhanced its Mediterranean charm. The braised short rib was another standout, served with vegetable farro risotto. The slow-cooked beef was rich and succulent, melting effortlessly with each bite.
Fresh and homemade creations
For a refreshing touch, the farmer’s market salad was a vibrant composition of seasonal vegetables, truffle pecorino, and sherry vinaigrette. The balance of crisp textures and bold flavours made it a perfect precursor to the pasta course.
Scarpetta’s pasta is handcrafted, and the tagliatelle with porcini mushroom and black truffle was a testament to this dedication. The delicate, silky strands of pasta absorbed the earthy richness of truffle and mushrooms, making for an indulgent yet refined dish.
A hearty main course
Moving on to the main course, the New York strip steak was a true highlight. This American black angus steak was grilled to perfection and served with a selection of homemade sauces and seasonal roasted vegetables. The balance of smoky char and juicy tenderness showcased the quality of ingredients and expert preparation.
A complete experience
Beyond the food, Scarpetta’s ambience elevates the experience. Set against the backdrop of the stunning Waldorf Astoria Doha Lusail, the restaurant offers an elegant atmosphere complemented by exotic cocktails and impeccable service. The seamless blend of modern aesthetics with traditional Italian culinary techniques makes Scarpetta a destination worth visiting.
Scarpetta is an experience of Italian authenticity with a contemporary twist, perfect for those who appreciate fine dining in an elegant setting.
Azqa Haroon recently visited the new Maia Coffee & Chocolate branch at Souq Waqif, and the experience was nothing short of delightful. Known for its indulgent desserts, flavourful dishes, and a vibrant ambience, Maia Coffee & Chocolate has quickly become a hotspot for food enthusiasts and dessert lovers.
The ambience
Located in the bustling heart of Souq Waqif, Maia Coffee & Chocolate offers a chic yet welcoming atmosphere. The cosy interiors are accentuated with warm lighting, plush seating, and a hint of chocolate in the air. Whether you're looking to relax after a day of exploring or enjoy a vibrant evening with friends, the setting is ideal.
The savoury bites
The menu at Maia is as diverse as it is appetising. I began my culinary journey with the caeser salad, a well-balanced dish featuring crisp lettuce, creamy dressing, and perfectly seasoned croutons. Next, the chicken popcorn was a delight, offering bite-sized crispy pieces packed with flavour—a perfect appetiser for sharing or enjoying solo.
The fettuccine alfredo was a creamy masterpiece. The pasta was cooked to perfection, coated in a rich, velvety sauce that paired wonderfully with tender chicken pieces. For a handheld
option, the chicken quesadilla did not disappoint. With a crispy tortilla stuffed with chicken, cheese, fresh vegetables, avocado, and a hint of spicy sauce, this dish was bursting with flavour and served as a satisfying main course.
The refreshing beverages
No visit to Maia would be complete without sampling their beverage offerings. I tried the Turkish tea, a warm and aromatic brew that perfectly complemented the sweet and savoury items on the menu. The strawberry mojito and lemonade added a refreshing twist to the meal. Both drinks were well-balanced, providing just the right amount of sweetness and zest to cleanse the palate.
The sweet treats
Known for their decadent desserts, Maia truly shines in this category. The San Sebastian cheesecake was creamy and rich, with a caramelised top that melted in the mouth. It was indulgent without being overwhelming—a true crowd-pleaser. The pistachio crepe was another standout. Thin, delicate crepes were generously filled with a pistachio cream that was smooth and nutty, topped with a drizzle of chocolate for the ultimate indulgence.
Final thoughts
Maia Coffee & Chocolate Qatar offers a memorable dining experience that combines savoury delights, refreshing drinks, and decadent desserts. I was impressed by the variety and quality of the dishes, as well as the attentive service and inviting ambience.
Whether you're craving a hearty meal, a sweet indulgence, or simply a great spot to unwind, Maia Coffee & Chocolate in Souq Waqif is a must-visit destination. From its thoughtful menu to its prime location, Maia promises a culinary experience that will linger in your memory.

The experience began with a warm welcome and a cup of refreshing herbal tea. This thoughtful gesture immediately transported me to a calmer state of mind. A spa staff member guided me through a signature foot ritual, gently cleansing and massaging my feet—a symbolic and soothing start to my journey. The ambience, with its soft lighting and delicate fragrances, set the perfect tone for what lay ahead.
Tailored treatments
I opted for a full-body massage and a hydrating facial, a combination designed to relax the body and refresh the skin. The massage was deeply restorative, targeting tension in my shoulders, neck, and back. The oils used were aromatic and therapeutic, enhancing the overall experience.
The facial was equally delightful. The therapist carefully examined my skin and selected Biologique Recherche products tailored to my needs. The treatment addressed hydration and revitalisation, leaving my skin glowing and remarkably soft.
A romantic option for couples
The Spa also caters to couples with exclusive treatments designed for two. Whether it’s a shared massage or a facial, these sessions are ideal for couples looking to unwind together. While I didn’t try the couples' package, the ambience and attention to detail make it a perfect choice for a shared escape.
Thoughtful details and expert care
What sets The Spa apart is the attention to every detail. The therapists were professional, ensuring I was comfortable throughout my treatments. The soothing background music, plush robes, and herbal-infused atmosphere further elevated the experience, making it feel truly luxurious.
An experience worth repeating
By the end of my session, I felt entirely renewed—my stress melted away, my skin refreshed, and my spirit uplifted. The Spa at AlRayyan Hotel Doha is more than a retreat; it’s a sanctuary that prioritises your well-being and offers a bespoke experience like no other.
Whether you’re a local or a traveller looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, I highly recommend indulging in the transformative services at The Spa. It’s a journey of pure relaxation that you’ll find yourself wanting to experience again and again.
