WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. (Maximum 100 words) They are cylinders, cones, and tangent surfaces of space curves. Cylinder surface is formed by a family of parallel lines; cone’s definition is given a profile curve and a vertex point v, the cone consists of all lines connecting v with points of p; tangent surfaces of space curve is formed by the tangent line.
Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. (Maximum 100 words) Understanding developable surface is critical in the underdtanding of architectural geometry since we need to create shapes that can be made in the real world. Some ideas are unique and creative. But it can’t exist in the real world. However it doesn’t mean that only simple surfaces can be enrolled. Some architectures can be complex like Huyghe + Le Corbusier Puppet Theatre.

VARIABLE 2D PATTERN
In this image, the unit pattern is shaped in star. And base-U is 0, Base_V is 0, maximum scale factor is 0.55.
l made the unit pattern more complex. It consists of three triangles. And the scale factor is changed to 0.75. I change Base_u to 1. Although it doesn’t make some clear differences.
In this image, the unit pattern is composed of circle, pentagon and star in order.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:
Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? (Maximum 100 words) Digital production is a generative medium that comes with its own host of restraints and possibilities. And digital practices have the potential to narrow the gap between representation and building, affording a hypothetically seamless connection between design and making. It changed the idea of virtual model, and it generates construction directly from design information.
Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? (Maximum 100 words) when folds are introduced into otherwise planar materials, those materials gain stiffness and rigidity can spend distance, and can often be self-supporting. Folding is materially economical, visually appealing and effective at multiple scales.

APPENDIX
This is the terrian at the beginning of the process.
This is the final work.
It took a long time to stick them together. And because l usually unroll three panels, it is hard to find how can I perfectly to make the model. And l really spend much time on the cuting outline of the model. There were too many needless tabs on the model so l cut them off. And the fold process is really difficult.
