MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT
How to measure a Croissant? The process of painting Croissant was not difficult, but when I added the hatching and shadingg, I felt confused and don’t know where to start. In the beginning, l were not familiar with operating software like Photoshop and Indesign. But in this task, I need to use Photoshop to modify the picture, and Indesign to layout. With the help of friends and tutor, I were gradually familiar with the software. And it’s also helpful in my later task.

NEW MARIO WORLD
The making of new Mario world. During my coloring process, I tried to keep the same color as the original. The colors of the objects’ sides have been deepened, so that the object would look more three-dimensional. Since the forbidden of the gradient tool, in order to make the steps more three-dimensional, I drawed some lines to make the steps have contrast with light and dark. I painted several different colors of the diamonds to consist the appearance of the snow-capped mountains. And l used the pen tool to trace the snowcap individually in order to make mountains realier. In this task, i know how to use the Ai to trace the line and how to clour it. It took me a long time but i made it.

The instruments: T-ruler, Ruler, Fineline pen:0.1 0.2 0.4, Set Square and Pencil.
Complete the drawing based on the tutors’ feedback. Add details include characters, game objects. And finally scan them.

Set-up axnometric workspace on the desk and project the first 2D Mario World forward at 45 degree angle. Use A3 greaseproof paper overlay the template. And layout the second Mario World backword so it would touch with the first world.
PAPER LANDSCAPE
The making of new landscape At the beginning of 3d panels’ design, l want to make the shape like the star. But when I tried to loft, it didn’t work. So finally l made the shape like the four-angle star.It took a long time to stick them together. And because l usually unrolled three panels, it is hard to find how can I perfectly to make the model. And l really spent much time on the cuting outline of the model. There were too many needless tabs on the model so l cut them off. And the fold process was really difficult. After this task, I learned more about how to make models with panel tool.

Terrian. The terrian which tutor gave.
2D Panels. Mesh the terrian and triangulate the mesh.
3D Panels. Use the panel tool to make it.
Final design. Delete the needless 3d panels. And get the final design.

INVISIBLE CITY
Continuous City 1: Leonia. Leonia is a prosperous city from most people’s view. But in fact, there is mountains of garbage surrounded by the city. The inhabitants of the city do not know that the city is at risk. So I put some well-dressed characters. They are keen on new things, so the daily garbage will be taken away by the garbage truck. The street cleaner constantly clean the city, so I put some cleaners cleaning the environment. From the strong contrast of new city and garbage, the city became more vivid.

The woman is well dressed. Everything looks clean and tidy. The garbage truck would take the old things away and take them outside the city. We can see how prosperous the city is ,since there are lots of buildings. But far away from the city, there are mountains of garabage.

The residents in the city are happy because they don’t know what happened to this city. The street cleaners are welcomed by everyone. Because they keep the city clean. Maybe the street cleaners are the only people who know that the country is in danger.

REFLECTION
From the lecture, we have a general understanding of the skills which are needed for each unit. In each lecture before the task, there will be a detailed description of how to proceed to the next step. During the workshop we learned how to use the software. There are a lot of people, include me, we were not familiar with Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Rhino before learning this course. And I have great difficulties in operating the software. Through the help of classmates and tutors, finally l did it. From these four tasks, I learned to use Photoshop to modify the levels and brightness of image, use InDesign to layout, use Rhino to set models and use Illustrator to trace the lines and draw the picture. When I did the task, sometimes my computer would break down with no reason. And it really made me feel frustrated. So I spent a lot of unnecessary time to redo the task. Although I felt very tired, often need to stay up late to complete the task, I really learn something useful during this course. I made some amendments in my previous work. In the first task ‘How to Draw a Croissant?’, my hatching of croissant’s section painting is too simple and rough. So I deepened the hatching and shading. The second Mario’s World, I changed the color of the cloud, so that the whole cloud looks more three-dimensional, and I added a little shadow to make it more real.
