Learn to Swim At the Colton Aquatics Facility Located at the Gonzales Community Center

The best way to keep your swimmer safe in any pool is to sign them up for swim lessons this summer!

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4, the second leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 4-14, and the third leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide for all ages. Teaching children to swim, never swimming alone, and supervising your children around the pool are critical, preventative steps toward drowning prevention. Join the Learn to Swim Program at the Colton Aquatics Facility today! Session Fee: $76 for residents and $94 for non-residents per session.

STARTING MAY 16, REGISTER ONLINE FOR SWIM LESSONS IN 3 EASY STEPS!

1. Review the Swim Level Flowchart on the following page and select which swim lesson is most appropriate for your swimmer. In order for your child to have a positive experience in our group lessons, it is important that your swimmer is registered in the appropriate swim level. The Swim Level Descriptions on the Swim Level Flowchart on pages 6 and 7 will assist you in finding the appropriate level for you child. Swimmers DO NOT need to complete a swim evaluation prior to registering.

2. Log onto apm.activecommunities.com/Colton, and select the session you want to attend. Be sure to review the schedule on page 5 to see when your level is offered. Levels are offered at a variety of times. Each swim lesson session consists of eight 30-minute classes. Lessons will run Monday-Thursday* for two weeks each session. *The Colton Aquatics Facility will be closed on July 4 during Session 2 and the price of the class will be adjusted for the holiday.

3. After registering online or in person, please complete a Swim Lesson Emergency Waiver to bring to your first day of class. Waivers can be emailed to you, downloaded from the city website or picked up at the Gonzales Community Center. A waiver must be submitted on the first day in order to participate in the class. f a swimmer does not meet the level requirements, they may be moved to another class, please feel free to stop by • IRecreation Swim to get a quick swim evaluation with a Lifeguard if you are unsure which lesson to enroll them in. dditional classes may be added for highly requested swim levels and time frames. Be sure to register on the Waitlist if • Ayour classes are full.

Colton Parks & Recreation Foundation Mission Statement

The purpose of the Foundation is to aid, sponsor, promote, advance, and develop park and recreation opportunities for all citizens of Colton.

FUNDRAISING PROGRAMS GOLDEN YEARS PROGRAM

The Golden Years Program utilizes funding to promote programs, facilities, and services for Colton’s senior citizen population. Health services, nutrition programs, group classes, and special events are examples of programs geared toward our “more experienced” residents.

RECREATION SCHOLARSHIPS

This is the original Parks & Recreation Foundation program. The Program funds scholarships to income-eligible Colton families for children to attend City-sponsored programs that they otherwise might not be able to afford. The Recreation Scholarship Program has awarded over $115,000 in scholarships to hundreds of children since 2003.

PARK ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

The Park Enrichment Program enhances park opportunities for the residents of Colton. Colton continues to strive toward the goal of making park land available within ½-mile of every city resident. This program helps to make funding available for this purpose.

Scholarships are available to Colton Residents for youth CSD programs. Proof of residency and income verification required. Applications are available at the Gonzales Community Center.
