s n o i t a t i v n i When you give someone an invitation it’s the first impression they will get of your party, and everyone knows the first impression is always the most important. So make sure your invitations are what you want and match the theme of your party. There are many companies that make invitations and allow you to add a personal touch to your invitations (like SoloInvitaciones.com).

How many invitations should you buy? an invitation You can buy an invitation for every guest or be able to per family. Look through your guest list to determine how many invitations to order.

Who will the invitation be directed to? If it’s a couple it should be Mr. and Mrs. (last name). If it’s a family it should be Fam. (last name). If it’s a friend it could be Miss (first and last name). If it’s a guy friend you should put Mr. (first and last name). If you are only inviting two or so people in a family you should direct it to them. If it’s one person and you don’t know who their plus one is, you should write Mr.(first and last name) and guest. 32

Do you imagine yourself in a party bus listening and dancing to music? Or in a classy limo ? Arriving to the church and the banquet hall can be as fun or as stylish as you want it to be... For limo companies and their websites you can look here, in this magazine, or you can go to QuinceanerasMagazine.Com and find them conveniently by zip code...

ASK THEM:

• How many hours does the price include? • Does it include the tip for the driver? • Does the price include drinks? (Soft drinks and water of course!)If not can I bring my own? • How much is the limo ride? • How much is the party bus ride? 36

Close your eyes and imagine this : Your are at the church walking down the aisle and it’s just quiet. You can hear your footsteps on the floor. It’s just an akward silence as everyone stares at you walking. Now imagine this: You’re at the church and walking down the aisle and the song “Ave Maria” is playing . There is no akward silence and no sounds of your footsteps . Which scene sounds better?

Having music at the church adds emotion to the moment and will keep everyone happy and focused. Many churches offer music for the ceremony but if they don’t you can get music SEPARATELY.

“A new national survey finds that Latinos between the ages of 16 and 25 are satisfied with their lives and optimistic about their futures. They value education, hard work and career success. But they are more likely than other youths to drop out of school, live in poverty and become teen parents.”* Neolatina para nosotros es una mujer de entre 25 y 30 años, hispana, orgullosa de sus raíces.

s o d r e u c e R At every quinceañera the host(family) hands out little gifts as a souvenir thanking you for your attendance. Favors, recuerdos, souvenirs, cositas are the same thing... At least, they have the same purpose. There is many kind of gifts you can give. We recommend that you give something that goes along with your theme. Think about something cute and fun that your guests would like. If it’s an edible goodie, it must be delicious. If it’s a souvenir, it must be something nice to keep.

Here are some ideas of gifts you can give as RECUERDITOS... • A little box or bag of chocolate • A little box or bag of candy • A CANDLE • A PORTRAIT OF YOU • PERSONALIZED CHOCOLATES WITH YOUR NAME • A SMALL NOTEBOOK

THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING THE CAMERA GUY... EXPERIENCE: How long has he/she been doing this? Also, is this his/her full time job or just a hobby? PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE - Fun, formal, artisitic, journalistic, all the above, etc... HONESTY - Is this the photographer that will be photographing your quinceañera or will they send in whomever is available. Don’t be shocked, this happens more often than you can imagine. HIS PERSONALITY - Do you get along with him/her? Is there “chemistry”? If you don’t, it will show in your pictures. APPEARENCE - Ask him/her what will wear the day of the event... NO JEANS PLEASE!!! DELIVERY - How long does he/she take to deliver your album? Believe it or not, some of them take more than a year! CONTRACT - Do you understand the contract? Make sure everything is written. Read it ALL. REFERENCES - A personal reference is always the best and people love to talk. Get a list of references from the photographer and check them out personally. A photographer who doesn’t have references or is afraid to give them to you may not be the person that you want to hire.

Questions to ask to the Photographer How long have you been in business? How many quinceañeras have you shot? What distinguishes your work from that of other photographers? Do you have a portfolio I can review? Can I see your most recent work? What type of equipment do you use? Can I give you a list of specific shots I would like? What information do I need to provide you before the EVENT day? Are you the photographer who will shoot my QUINCE? Do you have backup equipment? Are you photographing other events on the same day as mine? How will you (and your assistants) be dressed? Is it okay if other people take photos while you’re taking photos? How long after I order my photos/album will I get them?

QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK YOURSELF Do I feel a connection with this photographer? Are our personalities a good match? 62

Am I comfortable with this person’s work and style? JANUARY – JUNE 2012
