COVER GIRL Hello! My name is Isela Vasquez and I am from San Pedro, Ca. I am 15 years old. I am currently a sophomore in a catholic high school that helps me learn my academics and also deepens my faith in my religion. I am a model, cheerleader, track runner, and a gymnast. Being on the cheerleader team at school has taught me several lessons that will guide me on my path of life. The cheer team is my second family and I treasure every minute we all spend together during practices, games, and performances. My team helps me through all my obstacles and weaknesses. I know for a fact everyone of them will go far in life. People describe me as enthusiastic, loving, strong, and determined. I always try my very best in everything I do and never decline a challenge. I enjoy spending my free time with my friends and family. My friends are considered a part of my family. They know everything about me and never fail to make me smile whenever I’m around them. My friends have helped reveal things about myself that I wasn’t aware I was capable of doing. My family is the biggest treasure of my life and they help me with everything and anything that I could possibly need. I always put my family first before anyone else. I wouldn’t change the time we spend together for anything in the world. My parents are my motivation to be successful in life. My goal is to make them proud of me. Words honestly cannot describe how much I love them and value having them in my life. Bringing a smile to their faces and making them proud is the most rewarding thing I could ask for. I hope that one day I can follow in their footsteps in being a hardworking, responsible, and incredibly loving parent. My most valuable achievement has been maintaining my high grades while being occupied in extracurricular activities. I had the honor of receiving plaques in middle and high school for most valuable player, coaches award, and the Jack O’ Keefe outstanding spirit, academic and dedication award. I was offered the opportunity to travel to London and cheer in the Christmas Parade for being a part of the NCA All-American Cheer leading team. These recognitions make me realize that anything is possible if you set your mind, heart, and soul to it.

Sometimes in the middle of all the excitement, you forget to thank your family and friends for making your quince experience a great one. So here we made it easy for you not to forget. Although making a speech the day of your quince is important and mandatory, thanking your guest in a different type of manner shows your commitment of growing up and maturity. The type of thank you I’m talking about are thank you cards! Thank you cards are a must, because you already have about million things to think about, and sometimes thanking your family and friends skips your mind. So why not add thank you notes to your list of must haves.

rreal avo Villa BY: Gust O T O PH

I love you every body

Ok! But what are thank you cards/notes?.Thank you cards are hand written notes thanking your guest for attending and thanking them for any gifts you received from them. Another thing to remember is writing your guests full name and to make it a little personal and honest. If writing thank you cards to all your guest is nearly impossible. Think about the people that help you the most that day, for example your court. Although their some of your best friends think about them and express your gratitude with a thank you card. Another group of people can be your god parents, aunts, and uncles show your family some love with a hand written thank you note, and I can assure you they won’t be disappointed. Now for the best part having fun with the thank you cards. Thank you cards don’t have to be a big fancy mess, but a nice delicate design.

Think about going with the theme of your quince or colors from your dress, but if you don’t like that idea go with different colors or design, there’s nothing wrong with been creative!. The idea is to have fun and to show your guest you care. Traditionally thank you notes are done for weddings, baby showers, and or birthdays, but must people really enjoy getting these hand written letter from you. Because it shows how much you appreciate them taking the time to celebrate with you. So have fun with your thank you cards and be creative, honest, thankful, and inspiring.

This next trend is more for after the quince or if you have 2 dresses. The trend is TRASH THE DRESS! Yes you read right TRASH! When

I saw this trend I couldn’t believe it, but after seen all the pictures I was wowed! The way this works is if you have two dresses decide which one to trash. You want to do things that relate to who you are and what you like. But if you don’t have two dresses then trashing it after the quince could be a memorable experience that you will remember for years to come.

I’m not talking about literary going to the trash can and trashing it, but doing things you never thought about doing with your dress on.

For example horse back riding, going to the beach, painting, playing a sport, swimming, and so much more... TIP FOR YOUR TRASH THE DRESS PHOTOSHOOT:

Your photographer must be very creative. He will produce the 80% of the picture. You and your braveness will do the rest.

Want to see how this Trash the Dress session was made? Scan the barcode with your smart phone...and see the behind the scenes...

n’t You are not alone. Who does girls love candy? More and more r of like you want to see a towe sweets at their reception.. From Candyland, Willy Wonka are some of our earliest dreams of sweetness hanging from trees, chocolate runs in rivers and pillars are peppermint sticks. Scan all those photos of candy buffets throughout the web and you’ll quickly spot two things. One, candy buffets are extremely popular. And two, while some are just feast for our eyes, other seem to fall short of the heights their planners must have hoped for.

FIRST TIP: ALWAYS LEAVE IT TO THE PROS. HIRE A CANDY STATION EXPERT IN YOUR AREA

SO.. WHATS THE SECRET?

1.- Buying enough candy. Sounds

simple, but it’s key.

2.-

Decoration: It must look good and fit in your overall decoration.

3.- Start with the table, not the guest count. You don’t’ want to give one pound of candy to each guest. It’s better to have a table full of options and abundance rather than counting ounces per person. 4.-

The theme thing. Use a background to fit your candy station into your quince theme, if not, it will look delicious but an isolated decoration.

5.-

The containers: Clear and elegant. This is key. Use all sort of containers and raise some of them to create volume.

6.-

16

Don’t forget the take-away. Go to the dollar store and get a bunch of containers and use a sticker to personalize them.

is first!

Finding the ideal venue can be difficult, with so many different options the experience can be overwhelming. Here are some quick and easy tips on how to choose the best venue and get the best bang for your buck.

1.

Make sure you give your party planning at list a year the venue should be the first thing you book. You don’t want to be without a venue, so booking one is first.

So lets get started!

then, comes the hard part doing research. Picking which 3venue . So gives you the most for less, is

super important. Look for packaging, ask if they have any promotions and if they could lower the price if you choose all the services they offer.

2.

Second you must already have an idea of what you want the theme to be. With your theme pick out, you should already know if you want an out side or inside quince, and yes you can have an outdoors quince.

Photos by: Gustavo Villareal

4.

Most venues have photographers, floral arrangements, and even offer a party planner.

• So make sure you do your homework and ask questions. • Don’t be afraid to ask question after all that’s when you see if the venue has good costumer service and are interested in actually making your party a successful one. • If you see on organize managers/owners run away they will not care if last minute you decided to have a crisis and need their help.

CONGRATULATIONS IT’S A GIRL! Your Quinceañera the most

anticipated birthday since the day you were born. You and your parents have been dreaming and planning your quinceañera celebration for years. Capture that special day and tell your story using the very new, very popular, very TRENDY art of Cinematography!

PHOTOS BY: Hugo Benson y Gustavo Villarreal

The capturing of a special event celebration such as a Quinceañera has evolved thru the years, amongst the most common; a standard video, blue ray, and now the art of cinematography. A cinematic video is created by DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras, which also have the ability to photograph. A DSLR camera is comparable to a filmmaking camera with features such as the capacity to interchange different types of lenses, which provide different dimensions to a traditional video proving realism to your story. The results a simple scene will tell viewers a story, while composing photos in motion, a concept similar to today’s movies.

YOU ARE THE STAR!! Imagine that, tell your unique story through timeless emotion and style, and capture the essence of your fiesta as it happens, highlighting the best moments and the best part

But what if you just want to make a great entrance? Well then we go for the luxury cars.

No matter where your from we all have traditions. Whetter your Mexican, Columbian, Cuban, etc we all have them. As a latin community we follow many different traditions for example; The replacement of the shoe, the last doll, and many more. Tradition is something you always want to keep, it represents who you are and where you came from. Although tradition can be boring and outdated, when doing it correctly it can be appreciated by your friends and family.

We have so many traditions to choose from, so how can you make sure you choose the right one?

PHOTOS BY: y Gustavo Villarreal

Well it’s very easy first, research all the traditions out there, by doing so you will have an idea of what you want to do and what fits your style. Then, write down the top 5. Writing five down can help you choose the one that you like and by narrowing the possibilities it becomes a little easier. After, sit down with your parents and discus the one that suits you best. Trust your parents they always know best. Finally, ask your mother, aunts, and grandmother which tradition they decided to show at their quinceanera, that should help you make your decision easier.

PHOTOS BY: y Gustavo Villarreal PHOTOS BY: Who knows Photography

One of my favorites and the one

that never fails is the father/mother daughter dance, that one is always a tear breaker. You want to make sure the tradition your showing brings something special and memorable, because after all you only turn fifteen once. Also don’t be afraid of sincerity, after all everyone loves a good show. Although tradition is something we need to make our quince special you also need innovation, something new or different. Think about been original and unique find ways to make your quince different fresh and new. Been unique does not mean remaking something

28

Junio–Septiembre 2012

it simple mean to change something and making it your own. We all have different styles and attitudes so why not make a quince like you. The little changes is whats going to make your party original, from the smallest things like the flowers, to the dress, and more. However some people may disagree with me on bringing new elements to the party, but even so new always bring excitement. You don’t always want to be a follower be a leader. So have fun and don’t be afraid of change.

What’s your Choosing a color could be stressful, but worry no more we are here to help. COLOR IS VERY IMPORTANT it speaks who you are and gives you an edge. Color could be one of those things that can make a party or a fail to impress. NO way?! So how can I get different colors to work for me? Well we have color all around us in nature, clothes, and art so why not get inspired.

COLOR CAN also determine the mood your party can have. For example if you want your party to be calming or relaxing go for more earthy tones like soft greens, browns, burnt reds, and even soft blues. But if you want a glamorous vibe go for gold, silver, reds, and black. One of my favorite and easy things to do is following seasons. Every season has a color palette, spring have the pastels, summer the neons, fall the burnt reds, and winter the dark blues. So why limit your self with pinks and purples be original and make your party a work of art. Now we have so many options that sticking to traditional colors has been done over and over again. So here are three questions to ask yourself when picking your quince colors. What mood do you want your guest to feel when entering your venue? Have you been inspired by any art, dress, or a movie that you’ve seen? And finally do you see yourself loving this color? Use these questions to help you find that perfect color. And I could guarantee your party would be a great access.

So be inspired and stay chic. 34

Now a days we have so many different flavors that you can put on cakes, so why go for boring old vanilla. When you could have a delicious chocolate with buttercream, and have your guest drooling over your cake all night.

We all love to be in trend and know what is going on in the fashion industry, and with make-up it’s no difference. METALLIC EYES

Wow….my fav! You could never have too much bling (well in my EYES that is… lol), metallic and glitter eyes are adding a lot of bedazzle to the runways and big events. Some big designers are using gold or silver leaf on the entire lids; others are using glitter. Either way both will give a reflection of true royalty.

Who said that being a bit catty …couldn’t be fashionable? A lot of leading designers have swooped the black liner and false lashes on the outer corners to really give you that dramatic, cat-like look! You could also be sure your guest will

want to dance and do the boogie.

You can add fun element in a party by adding entertainment. This can be as simple as setting up a horseshoe tossing competition for a western themed party or hiring a belly dancer for an Arabian nights party. As food is a very important part of party planning, it can also be incorporated into a form of entertainment. your guest can always have seconds.

HERE SOME IDEAS... In planning

a theme party, pick something that you have some kind of knowledge of. It would be quite difficult to put together a Harry Potter party if you have never read any of the books or seen any of the movies. Keep in mind that the theme should start with the invitations, then continue with decorations, food, music, games and entertainment. Also consider the resoruces available for this theme.

can be a lot of work. If you are looking to choose a theme, do not be afraid to ask potential party goers for their input and advice. Mull over a variety of possibilities, then pick a theme which is best suited for your situation. You should also keep in mind the guests who will be attending the party and also, your knowledge of the party’s theme.

What career fits you

Every year thousands of students graduate from the university and head for a professional career. As you are deciding about what you will be doing in life, the critical step is to decide upon what type of a career is good for you. In other words, what are YOU suitable to? A number of studies with students demonstrate that many students experience lack of information, conflict, and decision taking worries about profession selection. Many exhibit a negative attitude, feel under-qualified and assume a fatalist position.” I do not even know what I want to do- I will be never be able to do what I really want- I will not be succesfull in this field- It is so difficult to get the job I want, one needs to know the right people for it”. Thoughts like these will have a negative impact on you, they will stop you from taking an initiative and starting and action.

Would you like to have a career that requires plenty of thinking, reasoning, and creativity that keeps you occupied almost all of your time? Would you enjoy facing a new challenge every day? How interest are you in learning a new technique every day, which in turn broadens your world vision continuously? All of the above are factors to consider while choosing a career. Yet there is more to think about. As you start your work life other factors like medical aid, pension schemes, bonuses, paid leaves, support for dependants and so and so fort will become important. However, keep in mind that those days are over, and try to make the best out of every new experience you gain at work- after all, this is YOUR career! Know what you want, always do your best and remember what you will gain in the end.
