Accomplishing Self Mastery – What Is Self Mastery? Much like an apprentice trains for a number of years to master a skill, self mastery is the art of training ourselves to be the very best we can be as we move through life. Learning a new skill, whether that’s as a child learning mathematics or as an adult learning to drive, is hard because we have never encountered the situation before. Trouble is, many of us tend to fight against learning as we grow older almost as if we resent it. However, the more you do practise, persevere and implement your learning, the easier it becomes. The same applies to who you want to become and what you want to achieve. We should all be dedicated to a path of self improvement and as Einstein once said: –

Accomplishing Self Mastery

‘Intellectual growth should begin at birth and only cease at death …’

We have a duty to ourselves to squeeze every last drop of opportunity from the life we have been given. To do anything less is surely only cheating ourselves of the very best we can be.

Accomplishing Self Mastery – It Takes Time There’s no getting away from it. Self mastery is a process of commitment and time but what better investment than the one we make for ourselves? I started writing fictional novels over twenty years ago in between working full time and doing other things. At the time, I thought my efforts were fantastic but now I realise that they were just the start of my many learning curves … However, I carried on trying and with time, my work improved dramatically. I suppose you would call this ‘honing the craft’. It’s been famously quoted that it takes at least 10,000 hours to become a true Accomplishing Self Mastery master. When we watch a great tennis match or a chessmaster, what we see is inspirational and awe-inspiring. But what most of us don’t think about, or see, are the hours and hours of relentless practice and dedication that goes on behind the scenes. I’ve mentioned the topic of ‘instant gratification’ in a previous post [ How To Manage Time Better] as ‘waiting’ is something we are becoming less and less used to. Life is just getting faster and we expect our life to keep pace. There is even talk now of divorce becoming an ‘online digital’ procedure which is just representative of the digital age we live in. However, we must resist the temptation of letting go of commitment so easily. This is what makes you an entrepreneur as opposed to a wantrapreneur.

Accomplishing Self Mastery – Find Your Passion 1/3

If you love what you do then it makes sense that you will invest more time, effort and energy into what you do. That feeling of getting lost in your ‘flow’ is incredible: time just seems to fly and the sense of satisfaction is that much more fulfilling. Nothing is worse than the feeling that time is dragging and you feel frustrated. What we believe is our passion at school, college or university is often a million miles away from what ‘lights the fire’ in our thirties, forties and beyond. Remain open to options as you get older. So many of us venture through life wearing blinkers, unwilling to accept that you can live your life and earn an income from your passion. In fact, many of us think that it is the exception rather than the norm when we hear stories of someone earning a living from something they simply love to do.

But, as the saying goes, if you find something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. It is possible.

Accomplishing Self Mastery – Wipe The Slate Clean Self mastery is all about moving forward and disallowing what has happened in your past to affect how you play out your future. Much like Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, we must use what has happened previously to assist us in growing stronger then leave behind what we do not need where it belongs – in the past. Illness, rejection, tragedy, happiness and everything in between is all part of life’s rich tapestry. They are simply ‘bricks in your wall’ that strengthen your foundations. Recognise and observe how you react to difficult situations. Making a conscious Accomplishing Self Mastery effort to control how you react and being mindful of your behaviour is vital to self mastery. You can choose to behave differently, think differently and act differently. We can unlearn bad habits but we must have an awareness of our thoughts and how we feel about our past in order to change.

Life Hack Tip of the Day: Accomplishing Self Mastery = Be Adaptive ‘You have to be fast on your feet and adaptive or else a strategy is useless ’ Charles de Gaulle

For me, this is listening to my sixth sense and understanding when I need to change direction, think again or seek advice from those more experienced than I am. In this modern age of digital technology it is all too easy to be left behind as it is developing and evolving all the time. Things do and will go wrong – that’s life – but it’s all about how we deal with those twists and turns. Do we crumple and retreat to a corner or simply look for an alternative over the obstacle? Those of us who can adapt and work out solutions to problems are the ones who will survive and more importantly succeed. Are you ready to succeed? If so, click here to find out more about how you can start your own path to self mastery.
