Design 101 Fall12

Re-Configure Critic. Ezra Ardolino The start point of the project was a ninesquare grid that through an algorithm explored different points. The ‘ideal’ nine-square figure provides the opportunity to understand the ‘real’ of all imperfect or distorted points obtained through the activation of the grid. The analysis of point, line, surface and volume using organizational, spatial, structural and constructional principles gave me as a result the final model. The idea of scale and how it relates to the body changed the space. The project gave me the opportunity to translate concepts gradually increasing sophistication into meaningful spatial design.

Representation III Spring15

ReBrand Critic. David Mans I tried to evocate a fresh and simple image for Amazon. The logo had to symbolize the company’s identity, and also be usable for any sort of communication event guaranteeing its recognizability. My logo design proposal is inspired by what I consider the most iconic symbol of the brand, the box. The use of simple lines which, together with the color palette, aqua blue and vanilla, stimulate warmth to the brand. A simple typography reflects modernity, giving the brand authority and sofistication.

Representation III Spring15

ReDesign Critic. David Mans There has been plenty of hype recently about the wonders of three dimensional printing. But 3D printing machines can do more than produce objects. They could change the future of the world’s cities. The aim of the redesign is to create a 3D printer that is able to satisfy the necessities of underprivileged communities in their path to became selfsufficient. Simplifying the hardware or adding solar panels are some of the changes to the design. Also, by including a scanner the machine will allow the user to replicate anything without the need to model it first in a computer. But perhaps the biggest challenge was to make the 3D printer into a sand extruder, so that filament wouldn’t be always necessary.

Workshop Crete Summer13

Terra - Insola Francois Roche - Ezio Blasetti - Stephan Henrich - Camille Lacadee - Danielle Willems - Dr. Lydia Kallipoliti - Andreas Theodoridis Terra Insola is a collective enterprise of scientific storytellers, speculative archeologists, regenerative engineering, deviant-mythologists and dirty-physiologist exploring the mythic figure of Ariadne as an archetype of a modern feminist. The workshop was balanced between computation and hands-on work in situ (local knowledge, memories and know-how knitted with global tooling, computation and machinism) as exogeneous-endogeneous apparatuses. The 3d printed delta robot design by stephan henrich, was used to develop strategies to extrude the components of the structure, with a high degree of assembly-groupintegration, down to the ball-bearing. A machine will be designed dedicated to a non repetitive component which is able to be re-introduced as a non-standard process to create the geometry of a shell-ter (specific “agencements and assemblage in the pursuit of the ceramic ornamentation of the Minos Castle, embedded in a computation procedure).

PrattSIDE 2015/16

Putnam Triangle Consultants advisor: Mark Parsons structural engineer: Severud Associates steel consultant: Sultz Fabrication Putnam Triangle Installation is a collaborative project of PrattSIDE, FAB Alliance and Pratt Center for Community Development. When we started the collaboration on Putnam Triangle, we found out that one of the primary requests at the community meetings was to build a shading device to make the plaza more pleasant to inhabit. Especially for the group of senior citizens who gather at the plaza regularly for dance events or to play chess and for children’s workshops organized at the plaza by nearby cultural institutions. We decided to try to solve these problems by designing a shading installation that defines a new gathering point at the Triangle but also includes lights and thus improves the security of the area at night. It will also create a visual focus for the big open space at the Putnam Triangle. Through the Putnam Triangle Installation project, we hope to show our school community and the local community, what strong design can do for all participants. We want to show that through design, we can bridge social and cultural separations and improve the quality of life, no matter the scale or budget of the project. - 044 -

Hotel Tasiazet Nouadhibou, Mauritania Tasiazet is a holistic center and hotel soon to be constructed in Nouadhibou, Mauritania. A modern stay location option in a peaceful respite at an urban setting. The center offers avant garde facilities and multiple services. The port of Nouadhibou is the final resting place of over 300 ships and hence the world’s largest ship graveyard. Unlike the arrival en masse of ships at Mallows Bay, here the number of craft has built up over time, as corrupt officials accepted bribes from boat owners to allow them to dump their vessels in the area. Creating a magnificient scenario and the major attraction of the city. Logo Identity - The client requested a fresh image for the Hotel Identity. The logo has to symbolize the company’s identity, and it has to be usable for any sort of communication event guaranteeing its recognizability. My design proposal is inspired by the proximity to the bay and to the ship graveyard. The use of simplify arabic patterns, which, together with the color palette, marine blue and vanilla, stimulate warmth in the brand. The simple typography reflects modernity, while the finely detailed traditional emblem provides balance, giving the brand authority and sofistication. - 050 -

Hadrian Gala 2015 World Monuments Fund October 21st, 2015 - New York For the 50th Anniversary of the World Monuments Fund I was asked by the floral artist Susan Miller Smith to reproduce three buildings from the World Monuments Fund to become the center pieces of the tables for the the 2015 Hadrian Gala, at Cipriani (42nd Street. NY) on October 21, 2015. The 2015 Hadrian Gala counted with the presence of Her Majesty Queen Soffia of Spain, who received the Hadrian Award and her Excellency Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa of Bahrain, among others. Using only photos of the buildings I drew, cut, painted and assembled 35 of the 43 models used for the event and auctioned after that. This was a collaborative project that was possible with the help of designer Olivia Tarro, and artists Nadia Georgiou and Acadia Cutshall.
