HAMELIN BAY

MARGARET RIVER

Established in 1992 by Richard and Roslyn Drake-Brockman, Hamelin Bay is a boutique family owned and operated winery. Located in Karridale, the most southern sub region of Margaret River, Hamelin Bay is close to both Southern and Indian oceans and enjoys a cool maritime climate. The terroir is blessed with sheltered warm north facing gravel soils and, coupled with the mild climate, produces wines of fresh, elegant varietal flavours. Hamelin Bay is known for its zesty citrus and minerality of its sauvignon blanc and semillon sauvignon blanc, tightly structured and elegant chardonnay, spicy shiraz and refined cabernet sauvignon.

Over the years, Hamelin Bay has built a stellar reputation for producing quality wines with 11 Royal Show trophies and medals too numerous to count. The wines are regularly included in Ray Jordan’s annual line up of Top 100 Australian Red and White Wines and have many times received the status of Best of the Best by the Variety in James Halliday’s Wine Companion.

Hamelin Bay

Blessed with mild weather, abundant sunshine and coastal breezes that produce complex fruit driven wines, Margaret River is West Australia’s famous wine growing region, three and a half hours south of Perth.

The Drake-Brockman family, owners of Hamelin Bay Wines, have a long history in the Margaret River region. Their family association with the region dates back to the first settlement by the Bussell family in 1830.

Richard Drake-Brockman’s great grandmother Grace Bussell is famous for her courage as a 16-year-old, when in 1876 with Aboriginal stockman Sam Isaacs, she rescued survivors off the shipwreck Georgette at Redgate Beach, not far from the mouth of the Margaret River.

Richard’s Great Grandfather Frederick, known for his exploration of the Kimberley, read about the feat in Perth’s press and rode 300 km on horseback to meet her. They married in 1882.
