W
hat is Group Consciousness and why would we need or want to “step out” of it? My first thought in writing this article was to convey my feelings regarding certain beliefs and collective thinking pertaining to a few selective concepts that I deemed to demean or diminish personal empowerment. I thought to rally support to break out of what I thought were ideals and shared beliefs that kept us in a trance state of doing things and thinking things just because we have been taught to accept them as “normal”. As I did my research it became bigger and broader. Admittedly, I initially had an attitude of wrongness regarding Group Consciousness. I surmised and concluded that it meant our nations people and perhaps the worlds’ had adopted ideals as normal because it served a group or collection of other individuals to have such beliefs accepted and practiced. I am speaking of class systems that tell us some people are better than others because they were born into certain families, genders, regions, races, access to higher education levels, etc. I am speaking of our economic system that tells us we must have “good credit”, a mortgage, expensive cars
and credit card debt in order to have all the things we need to be happy. I am speaking of our medical system that tells us we need prescription drugs and surgery in order to be healthy. Can you perhaps see why I initially thought Group Consciousness was such a bad thing? But as I learned more I gained a better understanding. In general, Group Consciousness does not refer to the specifically moral conscience, but to a shared understanding of social norms. The common academic definition for Group Consciousness is the awareness that an individual’s problems are shared by others who are similarly situated in regard to race/ethnicity, gender, class, or age. Group Consciousness, therefore, simply means all things that a unified general population believes as a whole, good, bad or indifferent. The problem with Group Consciousness is not what ideals it holds, because it could indeed collectively and inclusively hold up common moral, community and strength in number concepts that could serve our world very well indeed, but rather that it is not prone to be Universal. Group Consciousness is too often not representative Radiance

<< continued from page 5 of the whole of a population, but can be seen in much smaller factions with a potential to create a separateness rather than a togetherness. It can be, but often is not demonstrative of solidarity of the greater population. Because Group Consciousness can be applied to smaller groups and populations it can also serve to create opposing or competing ideals. Group Consciousness is a possible tool and method for a better world if it is used to create norms that truly benefit society as a whole with work coming from the top levels of influence as well as work coming from the bottom levels. But is it enough? Where do we go from here if it is our goal to create one unified Group Consciousness that holds all individuals to be of worth, with dignity, in safety and together? How do we become united? The answer is Universal Consciousness.
What is Stepping into Universal Consciousness? Universal Consciousness or Universal Mind may be defined as the nonlocal and atemporal hive mind of all aggregates, components, knowledges, constituents, relationships, personalities, entities, technologies, processes and cycles of the Universe. It is the Universal higher consciousness or source of being in some forms of esoteric or New Thought and spiritual philosophy. It’s also the human nature. It’s believed that one has access to all knowledge, known and unknown. Through the Universal Mind, people have access to an infinite power where they are able to tap into the limitless creativity of the Universe. The notion of Universal Mind or Consciousness is authored by the Pre-Socratic philosopher Anaxagoras, who arrived in Athens some time after 480 BC. He taught that all things were created by Nous (Mind) and that Mind held the cosmos together and gave human beings a connection to the cosmos, or a pathway to the divine. Whenever I am in a conundrum as to a course of action I have learned through my spiritual practice to meditate and gain what I would call the Universal Truth of the situation. All roads of all situations lead to unconditional love and acceptance in the end. No matter what the situation is, i.e. whether it is a tiny, tiny local matter between myself and another person or something of great social magnitude, when I remember to apply 6 Radiance

a higher view it always renders a calmness and an understanding that brings a resolve to avoid separateness and lack of solidarity. The nature of the Universal Consciousness is omniscient, omnipotent, omnificent and omnipresent. Omniscience is the capacity to know everything that there is to know. In Latin, omnis means “all” and sciens means knowing. Omnipotence is unlimited power of doing. Omnificent means unlimited in creative power, having unlimited powers of creation. Omnipresence is the property of being present everywhere. Some would call this God, Allah, Yahweh, Elohim, Jehovah, Almighty, Waheguru, Satnam, and a thousand other names. There is no one name to describe that feeling of unconditional love and light, acceptance, solidarity, oneness, togetherness. I use the phrase Universal Consciousness myself because for me it describes the concept of all thought forms, sentient beings, energies united into one truth that we can all have access to. Universal Consciousness can also be called Higher consciousness, Super consciousness (Yoga), Objective Consciousness (Gurdjieff), Buddhic Consciousness (Theosophy), Cosmic Consciousness, God-Consciousness (Islam, Hinduism), or Christ Consciousness (Christian Mysticism). These phrases are expressions used in various spiritual and intellectual traditions to denote the consciousness of a human being who has reached a higher level of development and who has come to know reality as it is. It also refers to the awareness or knowledge of an ultimate reality which traditional theistic religion has named God and which Gautama Buddha referred to as the unconditioned element. Evolution in this sense brought about by the application of spiritual knowledge to the conduct of human life, and of the refinement of the mind brought about by spiritual practices. Through the application of such Universal Consciousness to practical self-management, the awakening and development of faculties dormant in all of us, the extraordinary human being is achieved. These faculties are aroused by and developed in conjunction with certain virtues such as lucidity, patience, kindness, truthfulness, humility, and forgiveness towards one’s fellow man – qualities without which, according to the traditional teachings, higher consciousness is not possible. To practice Universal Consciousness means to step out of Group Consciousness. To step out of Group Con-
TRUTH CONSCIOUSNESS BLISS
sciousness means to cease to describe ourselves in terms of our gender, class, ethnicity, education level, nationalism, political affiliation, career type and see ourselves as divine beings of light with readily available access to a source of wisdom and love and acceptance for ourselves and others. To step out of Group Consciousness means to expand the group into which we create solidarity to be inclusive of not only all mankind, but to the all living creatures in the Universe. It means to expand our thoughts and beliefs to beyond what we might have imagined possible. It means to expand ourselves into being a part of the Universe. What would come of us should we as a nation or as a world begin our journey to step into this? I can imagine, can you? Close your eyes for a moment and see if you can imagine all 7 billion people in or world seeing themselves in this way, as divine beings of light with equal access to the highest wisdom of the Universe. All seven billion of us knowing that we inherit the earth and all of its’ abundance, that we are safe and in the immortal words of John Lennon “………No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people sharing all the world.” I see changes every day that mark distinctive evidence that our world is changing and moving in this direction. We are becoming more aware of our surroundings and belief systems and we are beginning to question them. The youth of today is perhaps demonstrative of the strongest evidence. I see it in our four grown children, their friends and others their age. They are questioning everything about how we (my generation) lived our lives and they are clear they want something better. They seem to have quite naturally removed themselves from group consciousness and actively seek something that makes more sense to them. They are not of a generation that simply steps into the cultural and ethnic norms of their ancestors.
I have been on my spiritual journey for 10 years now, shorter than some, longer than others. It has not been easy to shift out of group consciousness, especially initially, as there is comfort in what is familiar. Being a leader in a community where I espouse everyday that we can embrace a Universal Consciousness and live a life so very different than what we have been accustomed to has brought its share of trepidation for me knowing there are some who will hold contempt for these changes because it frightens them to leave their comfort zones. We must not get caught in the trap of judging those that cannot or simply have not yet shifted from Group Consciousness to Universal Consciousness. We send them the light, the unconditional love and complete acceptance of the Universe as we continue to do the same for ourselves knowing that as we do this every day we create shifts in this direction. It is only a matter of time for it to come and since time is not linear in Universal Consciousness, it is of course already here. Celebrate it!

I hear them talk of change in a proactive and intelligent way. They are activists but non-rebellious. They are spiritual, but not religious. They are of community sharing and non-materialistic ways, but not hippies. The changes are of course not limited to that of the younger generation, I see people in my own age group and older who are embracing many of the same values. Questioning what is or was that doesn’t make sense to them anymore and contemplating new ways to think.

Ohana:
The Best Gift for All Seasons By Faith Rivera
M
ele kalikimaka me ka hau’oli maka hiki hou! That’s what I heard during the holidays growing up on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. It means “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!” Instead of snow, we had sun and twinkly garland hanging on imported pine or fir trees. The young fashion wanna-be’s like me back then pretended we had weather and wore fluffy sweaters and boots. Bright red and green poinsettia plants were everywhere. Locals and tourists celebrated as Santa rode in an outrigger canoe at Waikiki Beach. Whether you practiced a religion or not, Christmas was celebrated by everyone and was a time to honor the most important thing about island life: Ohana which means family. From the Office of Hawaiian Affairs: Hawaiians embrace the family as the basic unit of society and the best form of human expression, 8 Radiance

and readily reject the rugged individualism so highly valued in EuroAmerican societies.”
streets address strangers as Aunty or Uncle because everybody was family.
Though we islanders are not all of Hawaiian descent, we do value Ohana, or family, above all else. Ohana comes from the word oha, (young shoot of the taro). Adding na makes it plural. So Ohana means many young taro shoots, a wonderful mirror of the typical Hawaii household with up to three generations or more of family members.
Growing up Catholic, my holidays meant staying up late for midnight Mass, barely keeping my eyes open and my body upright for two hours. I would perk up at 3 a.m. to eat hot King’s Hawaiian rolls and empanadas as we tore into our gifts.
When I was a baby, my parents rented a room on a lot that housed four different families. It was fun growing up in this multi-generational village. As a child, I would line up the old folks in the courtyard, choreograph their movements, and conduct their singing. My cast of singers and dancers would include extended ohana, our blood relatives, and others in the village who were hanai family members – adopted cousins, siblings, aunts, uncles, etc. It was common to hear folks in the
Others celebrate with large parties or Christmas luaus complete with kalua pig slow-roasting in the oven. It was normal to have twice the food you needed. And yes, locals love buffet-style. The menu choices were abundant and showcased every cuisine and culture that makes Hawaii the melting pot that it is, Hawaiian, Japanese, Filipino, Chinese, Portuguese, Korean, and others. Exchanging gifts was as plentiful as the buffets. You gave presents to your immediate family and your extended ohana , which could include Aunties and Uncles, their families, the neighbors, co-workers, and the list goes on.

I always was amazed at the generosity of island folks, especially during the holidays, but gift-giving happens throughout the year in Hawaii.
Omiyage is a Japanese word meaning gift or souvenir and for locals, it refers to souvenirs brought home for everyone from their vacations as well as casual gifts, usually food, given whenever you visited someone. Brown paper bags were often the gift-wrapping choice to deliver mangos or malunggay leaves from your yard (both favorites for local Filipinos) or customers might bring a box of manapuas (bun with meat) to the office or bank for the employees to share especially during this season. There was never a shortage of gifts and goodies – not even for those loved ones who had passed on. Ohana means “nobody gets left behind or forgotten,” declared little Lilo from Disney’s blockbuster animated film Lilo and Stitch. Locals take this to heart and include deceased loved ones in their holiday celebrations and other occasions in the year. My Filipino family continues to put out a full plate of food, a drink, and dessert at every gathering for my Grandma who died almost 20 years ago. My husband’s family, from Chinese descent, puts out each course of a nine-course dinner to honor their loved ones at parties. I’m grateful our island culture taught me to remember, honor, and include our departed loved ones in these special celebrations. It’s a wonderful practice to use all year long and most especially during the Christmas season when we miss those loved ones most.
I’ve talked about island food, gifts, even spirits (not the beverage kind) when it comes to the holidays in Hawaii. However, the Christmas season would not be complete without music. As children, we sang, danced, and performed the happy holiday standards in school. We did the hula and sung local versions of the classics in pidgin (our island slang). Music also thrived at home during family Christmas parties. Some Uncle or Aunty would play the ukulele, start jamming, and we’d all organically join in with the singing and music-making. This is so common there is a Hawaiian word for it: kanikapila which is defined as music produced in an impromptu jam session, often taking place at a beach, or family gathering. The Catholic Mass was formal with the sound of traditional religious Christmas songs the choir and my sweet family would belt out from the pews. Although I was shy about my music and singing then, I loved that my family felt free to sing those carols with gusto. Maybe they felt obligated to raise their voices for the Lord, but I knew it was their love of music, singing and, of course, praise to God. There is something about the beautiful melodies of those traditional Christmas songs that still touch me deeply, even if the lyrics may not fit our current understanding of life or spirit. The power of music is amazing. It transcends the limitations of words and definitions and in the dance of the notes, rhythm, and lyrics, capture the essence of the holidays, the essence of family, and really the essence of aloha, meaning the Love.
I suspect it is the same for any culture. Whatever the season, music reminds us what really matters. Ohana and aloha (family and love) is what this season means to me. It has been a journey of gratitude and pride for the island culture in which I grew up. As a recording artist, it has taken eight albums prior to record a CD of the most-loved Hawaiian songs called, “Where I Live There are Rainbows,” and to do it with love. With an expanded perspective, I finally was able to see what Hawaii and the ancient Hawaiian spiritual teachings have to offer, not only me, but also healing gifts for our entire planet. For instance, this simple word ohana we have explored holds so much for all of us. Ohana from my Hawaiian culture, means all of us and excludes no one and no thing in the heart of aloha. M.J. Harden wrote in Voices of Wisdom: Hawaiian Elders Speak, “A primal, sacred, family connection ties Hawaiians to the universe, to nature, and to the land and the sea…” In fact, we call ourselves keiki o ka ‘aina (children of the land.) The ‘aina (land) is a heart matter for Hawaiians, meaning much more than soil or sand. People and nature are siblings born to the same parents at the start of time. This sense of connection to all is something I am most committed to sharing through my music like in this holiday song I co-wrote with Sue Riley entitled More than a Season: It’s more than a season of giving gifts to those we love It’s about looking deeper to see that we are one continued on page 10 >>

This Christmas It is about having new eyes to see the love that is already present, or even more powerful, to see what is, bless it and decide, in that instant, to be a presence of love. In this world, we all celebrate differently during the holiday season. For some, it’s Christmas like in my upbringing. For others, it’s Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and many other wonder-
ful holidays specific to different religions and cultures. There are some who take issue with this diversity of expression, but if they look closer, they’d see what remains the same: the love and connection. Sooner or later, we will come to the inevitable conclusion the Hawaiian elders shared – we are all ohana, we are all family, from the start of time to the end of time. For my next project, I plan on rewriting the Sister Sledge song “We Are Family” to “We Ohana Forevah.” That’s island pidgin for “ We are Family Forever” and we are! Till our next connection, let’s revel in the wonder and awe of this season! Aloha no, a hui hou.

able work of defining the quality being considered. After much study, I chose this: Joy is the keen awareness of potent ebullient pleasure and goodness, on all levels. And joy increases as it is recognized and embraced. Practicing joy provides an ever-increasing wave of happiness that wafts through the world, creating a forcefield, stimulating more and more of itself.
There is no better time of year than during this marathon of holidays to begin a practice that enhances pleasures and lessens pain, a practice that carries us into the heart of what and why we are celebrating.
Thus, joy is the poignant awareness of buoyant goodness. Joy has the capacity of constant increase.
Create a Philosophy of Joy
How is the practice of joy a form of wisdom? It calls us to aliveness, awareness and health. We are all hungry for more elation, jubilance, exultance, festive gaiety, felicitousness, lively keen pleasure, great gladness in our lives (all synonyms for joy).
Begin with a philosophy of joy. Philosophia – an ancient word that honors the love of wisdom. Philo means love, an abiding love, a desire-filled love, one that pursues, quests for, feels an immense pull toward Sophia, Wisdom, no matter which of wisdom’s multitude of faces and personalities she reveals at any given moment. A philosophy of joy helps generate potent, caressing, engaging energy for practicing joy.

What does it do for us?
Even in the midst of suffering, joy exists. You may wonder how it is possible to consider the practice of living in a state of joy when the world is so grievously overtaken by sorrow, grief, and pain. Does it seem hardhearted to seek happiness when there is so much suffering, our own as well as the earth’s? Please under-

stand I am not advocating laughter and frivolity that is careless of others’ cares, or cruelly diminishes the importance of the actual presence of profound sorrow, of authentic suffering. Nor am I advocating an inauthentic joy that ignores our personal times of legitimate suffering by pretending to be happy or act like everything is perfect. I speak rather of a joy and happiness that can exist simultaneously with our pain during times of authentic suffering, and has the power to transmute that suffering. In my experience, living within a state of such deep joyfulness will bring us more compassion and faith than we might otherwise attain. We need to remember a truth about suffering: it debilitates our lives, and helps persuade us that all life is pain. It makes us see the world with dark glasses. Many of us have been taught, and carry a belief, that suffering is noble, good, useful, and brave. That our sufferings teach us great life lessons more quickly and more powerfully than anything else can, especially when compared to the grasshopper consciousness of “la de da” scampering along that we mostly associate with joy. So the belief structure we have inherited tells us that suffering is noble, while joy is 1) foolhardy at best, or 2) foolishness personified, or 3) total and shameful ignorance. Not only that, but we have a tendency – Puritans that we are – to believe suffering is good for us and we deserve it. The opposite is true. I believe the absence of a rich, generous love for life (a synonym for joy) is one of the reasons many of us are sick. Recognizing and celebrating true joy acknowledges the truth of suffering: we’re going to have plenty of it in our lives. Yet when we return to relative equanimity after a time of profound suffering, we often discover a new, poignant awareness of the sweetness of life. It is also my experience that deep lessons learned from suffering come after its worst infestation, when we feel ourselves restored to the experience of daily life.
some of its ferocity more quickly. Then we can restore ourselves to a keen awareness of the miracle of life, complete with the newly acquired lesson the suffering has given us.
The earth needs our joy. Another reason to practice joy is to serve the earth, loosening its armor of sorrow. Sensitive observers tells us the pain and grief we experience, and do not consciously attempt to transmute, surrounds the earth in a cloud of anguish. The emotional body of the planet is overburdened with pain, thus affecting the life of everyone and everything. Practicing joy – making joy a lighthearted practice, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day – helps us discover how to transmute that cloud of pain around the earth into the energy of mindful delight. We will also create a huge force field of happiness that relieves suffering and pain, and provide ourselves with more encontinued on page 16 >>

Practicing joy is not a denial of suffering. The Buddhist teacher and leader Thich Nhat Hanh describes one aspect of joy as being that which comes when a painful toothache goes away. His mindfulness practice is to bring about the cessation of suffering as quickly as possible. His way of right mindfulness is a powerful version of the practice of creating joy. In this practice of discovering the power of joy, we do not overwhelm suffering, but rather learn to drain

Human beings want to alleviate suffering. We want to increase the sum total of the world’s happiness. Any person with a modicum of compassion and a fleck of awareness of her good fortune wants to find ways to express these two forms of our basic goodness. Practicing Joy is an authentic way to generate the energy to help us fulfill these deep desires.
How do we get there? Practice. Practice. Practice. Starting Now Following is an Nine Fold Path of practicing joy. This Path is not linear. Picture a lotus with eight luminous petals surrounding a golden center. The center becomes your experience of the Source of Joy. Everything blooms forth from that center, where the practice is to source oneself in joy. No matter what. Even overwhelming tragedy can find a moment of ease in joy. My husband of many years lies dying in the intensive care unit, a few doors away from the waiting room where I stand looking out on a March sunrise, after a night of fear and despair. Suddenly a choir of bird song rises in the morning light. The trees shake loose a flurry of winged ones, singing their hearts out as they greet the dawn. I know he has died, but some part of me also knows the birds are singing a greeting and their flight accompanies his soul/essence into the glory of the morning. I can choose to lose myself in that joyous sound, to let the birds sing me home, not to the land of the dead where Ben has gone, but to my soul’s source in joy, that force field of love we lived within. And a moment later when the news arrives at the door I can turn and greet the heartbreaking fact with a wiser, stronger heart for my moment of joyful sourcing.
Walking the Path Standing first at the golden center of Joyful Sourcing, feel the invitation from the petals to begin. Step out onto one. An order is suggested below, but any petal 16 Radiance

will engage you in joy. You can travel from one beautiful petal to another. Or spend months on one. Each step leads you to new ways of feeling joyous and fulfilled, even when things are not perfect. As you deepen into each stage, you discover the petals support, and are supported by, one another. You may find that one opens to another, and another, and another. A note of caution: This is deeply personal work. My experience is one of growing joy and watching it blossom around and within me, yet I am aware that it is cruel to use that joy inappropriately. If a friend is in pain, the deepest wisdom of joy holds her in a rich awareness of the sweetness of life, but never tries to shift her pain by advocating that she try to be joyful. That’s inviting the loss of a friend. And an inauthentic expression of the practice of joy. Real practice awakens deeper compassion for all suffering while maintaining a centering awareness of joy as an ever-loving fountain flowing from the heart of life.
The Lotus Path at the Golden Center: Step One: Joyful Sourcing The ultimate source of this joy is a state of love – not an emotion, but a field of intense, passionate engagement with the earth and its creatures. Even overwhelming tragedy can find a moment of ease in joy. Track every event that occurs from its happening back to its source in joy. What sources you in joy?

Lotus Petals: Stages along the Path:
Step Nine Joyful Service and Sharing
Step Two: Joyful Beliefs
The stage invites us to sense and respond to the presence of joy in others, no matter how deeply it may be hidden.
Restructure your belief system to place joy at the heart of creation. An ancient Egyptian story states the world came into being because God laughed. Think of that holy laughter as the foundation stone of life. It rings through everything with a wild, clear power. My sense of joy is a deep sweet river flowing through us and through all life, a river of faith, belief and action. Step Three: Joyful Awareness Awaken to the delight of being a detective of joy, looking for and finding it everywhere. See the visitations of joy and store them in your heart. The dog’s joy at the very idea of taking a walk; the white butterfly that dashes past, the purring of a cat in one’s lap. Step Four: Joyful Acceptance and Acknowledgement We are invited to stay attentive to evidence of joy all around us and take each element of delight fully into our mind/body/soul/heart. Acknowledge it aloud. Step Five: Joyful Presence This provides training in thought and emotion to use the imagination to construct a potent sense of the aliveness and immediacy of joy all around us.
Following this illustrious path will bring Joy to the World, I promise. It asks your attentiveness and your practice.

Step Six: Joyful Dedication Acknowledging once again those values each person holds dearest, this step that invites us to align (or realign) fully to the individual path that honors love and service. Step Seven Joyful Remembrance Remember joy and honor it in all its forms; celebrate personal accomplishments; learn to sweeten regrets by remembering the care and love that lie beneath them. Step Eight: Joyful Transformation This is the stage of the path that can transmute pain and disperse the harmful chemistry of suffering in order to transform personal suffering into at least the remembrance of joy. The more time spent on this stage, the more effective we become in transforming the suffering of the world. Radiance

How to
Awaken the Zentrepreneur in You
ByJohn J. Murphy
W
hatever we do, whether we run a household, our business, or work for a company, there is a “zentrepreneur” within us, a soul seeking release and a creative idea seeking expression and manifestation. This is the heart and soul of our being – our human being! It is our innate desire to grow, explore, and be creative. Zentrepreneurs know this as nirvana, here and now, heaven on earth. We know we are meant to be free and flow fearlessly. We came to this earth to express ourselves, interact with each other, learn, and make this world a better place. Yet many souls have become trapped, imprisoned by fear, doubt, and insecurity. Rather than embrace change and uncertainty with poise and confidence, the timid allow these things to hold them back. We can be our own enemy. We can get in our own way. The secret to getting past this fear is in tapping our inner zentrepreneur and applying four fundamental steps to inspiration and success – the ring of peace.
First step: “Let Be” Zentrepreneurs know we cannot change what already exists. We have to accept it - like it or not. We have to learn from it. Why? Because it already is. It happened. This includes people, problems, circumstances, weather, long lines, slow computers, traffic, difficult bosses, and painful losses. There is no value in complaining about it or getting upset. There is no undoing it. There is 26 Radiance
November/December
no wisdom in letting it bring us down. Stress only makes things worse. The Law of Attraction delivers manifestations that match our emotional vibration. Complaining, stressing, and being anxious only call more of the same into our lives. How wise is that? The sage zentrepreneur within us offers us an alternative, the capacity to transcend these emotional temptations. We have to recognize them when we see them and avoid the trap. Rather than becoming anxious and fearful, we can choose to think differently. We can learn to see what is as simply a blessing in disguise, a lesson to be learned. For example, the people who challenge or annoy us might be among our greatest teachers. They give us an opportunity to learn patience, wisdom, and spiritual presence. Second step: “Let Go” Rather than resist what is, accept it, feel it, examine it, learn from it, and then let it go. Resistance only makes that which we are resisting stronger. Why strengthen the enemy? Push back invites push back. Force meets force. Try dancing with the problem instead. Embrace it and then let it go. Admit there is a problem and then release it. Denial will get you nowhere. Rationalization and defensiveness obstruct flow and attach you to the problem. Learn to let it go. There are many proven techniques to assist with this, including EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), Meditation, TRE (Trauma and Tension Release Exercises), yoga, tai chi, and healing sounds. Choose a practice that resonates with you and
TRUTH CONSCIOUSNESS BLISS
do it! The only obstacle to releasing fears, phobias, and limiting beliefs is you! When we accept what is and learn to let go any emotional distress drawing destructive drama, we experience the last step.
Third Step: “Let See” This step involves a shift in our perception. We see the world very differently. The people who used to annoy us now appear differently. We feel compassion for them. We recognize their suffering or ignorance. We forgive them “for they know not what they do.” We offer a helping hand. We reach out from a higher place, a higher frequency and vibration, knowing this is the only way we can be of any true assistance. Misery may love company, but zentrepreneurs know this match in frequencies does not solve problems. It compounds them. The only way to help someone in pain is to help them change the channel and see things differently. The fourth step often results in experiencing a sense of awe and wonder. When we let be, let go, let see and experience “Let Flow,” it is as if we are living a dream come true. We are “in the zone” as some athletes put it. We experience a sense of fearlessness, timelessness, and peak productivity. We are available to a higher frequency
of spiritual energy and we channel this into our work and relationships. We literally light up the room. People feel our presence. They are inspired by our energy - or zenergy! In return, we reap what we sow. By giving unto others, we are given more to give. We become an instrument of peace, a fountain of love, a beacon of light. By emptying our bowl, we receive more. We channel spiritual wisdom, sacred joy, and emotional intelligence. This powerful inner peace then reveals itself to the rest of the world as “good ideas” resulting in positive changes. We make the world a better place. Have you awakened the zentrepreneur in you? A mystic of management and sensei of strategy, John J. Murphy has focused on teaching his corporate clients conscious business practices while improving their bottom lines for the past 30 years (GE, BMW, Target, Kraft, the CIA and currently ADP, to name a few). Murphy has drawn on his diverse experiences as a corporate director, Notre Dame Quarterback, spiritual mystic and management coach to author 15 books, including Sage Leadership and Beyond Doubt. Celebrating
Spirit Over the Holidays By Steven S. Sadleir
E
ach year we, as a culture, celebrate the spirit of the holidays. Whether through a church, temple, or spending quality time with family and friends, we all feel a spiritual communion and renewal during this season. We also each have our own ways to worship and celebrate the holidays. We all feel the spirit of the season and share it collectively. But what is the spirit that makes a holiday? What makes it spiritual? What is spirit? We all recognize there is something within us that animates our existence. Without it we would be a corpse. When the spirit leaves us the flesh is there, the brain is there, but “we” are not there. The spirit leaves the body. In each of the major world religions, we recognize there is something eternal within 28 Radiance

our being that is not of the flesh, but which gives it life and is guiding us – we generally referred to this as spirit or “our” spirit. In the Kabbalah, it is referred to as the “spark of Divinity.” In India, the Yogi’s call it “Shakti” and there is an entire science to discover this part of our Self. Most people go through life not really knowing their own spirit; they don’t really know their true self. To know your spirit, you have only to look. The more you look, the more you enquire within and tune into the subtle energies in your body, the clearer everything becomes. The more you look, the more you find. Take a moment as you read this and observe your impetus to read. Something within you is guiding you to read these words. What is this?
Observe your inclination to read and reflect. Observe your eyes going from left to right. Observe the light being reflected into your eyes as you are reading. Observe the light entering into your eyes. Take a breath in through your nose and, as you exhale, observe the images on this page being recognized as words and watch your mind think about what each word means. Observe your thoughts as you are thinking. Stop reading for a moment at the end of this sentence and watch your mind from outside of it, as if you were watching television. Watch your thoughts; observe your mind thinking. As we step back from our mind and observe it, we engage a higher faculty of awareness. We disengage from the incessant programming of our mind and begin to develop

greater perspective, objectivity, clarity, and focus.
As we come into this quiet place within ourselves, we also commensurately feel an incredible bliss. The more connected with your spirit you become, the greater the bliss. As you clear your mind by simply putting your attention on this life force energy in your body, the subtle presence of your indwelling spirit shines brighter and you enlighten. The inspiration comes from within, your spirit lies within. You go within to connect with the spirit within, and then you set it free. Here is where happiness lies; you set your spirit free. The more you put your attention on this Divine Presence within, the more this Presence grows in your awareness. The Presence is always present, but your mind may be ignoring or denying it. All we need to do to feel joy-love-peace is to tune into our own life-force energy or spirit. Feel it as life within you; feel the current, the buzz. The more you connect, the more connected you will be. The more connected you are, the happier you are. Like anything else in life, the more you practice, the better you get.
the world can live in peace. Each has to make that effort. Your enlightenment contributes to the global enlightenment. You are now at the head of the bell curve of humanity awakening, now let’s move forward. This holiday season, let’s all connect with the spirit within us. As we awaken to the realization of our own true nature, we also realize the light in everyone else, and in everything else, everywhere, all the time. We’ve been asleep, we’ve forgotten our true nature as spiritual beings and are now beginning to realize the truth and are seeking ways to further evolve ourselves. Let’s use the spirit of the holidays to connect deeper in spirit as spirit. The Kingdom of Heaven does lie within, and your enlightenment is creating this awareness on Earth. As we each enlighten, this brings about a global enlightenment. This is the destiny of mankind, to create a Kingdom of Heaven on Earth by living in it.

the Gifts We’ve Been Given By Rev. Basia Christ, Ph.D.
E
ven before I started school, I drew all the time. My favorite gift was a new box of crayons, 64 different colors, and blank pads of paper my dad brought home from work.
The manager at my second job, Mr. Tefft, bought me an oil painting set for my birthday and the bank for which I worked paid for my oil painting classes at Northwestern University for two years.
I hated coloring books. I didn’t see things static. I colored across the lines to show the figures were always moving. My friends laughed at me, but I didn’t care. I just thought we saw things differently.
I loved painting, but never had the confidence to do it for a living until after my divorce. I wanted to be home with my children so I became a freelance illustrator. I drove back and forth 30 miles with my children who were 1-, 2- and 3-years-old to meet with Art Directors in downtown advertising agencies. I would do the same thing to bring a layout and then the finished product. There were no faxes or computers with scanners and pdf files. Everything was done by hand. Marker layouts. Acrylic or air brushed paintings. Ink on illustration board.
While in fifth grade, I won an art contest in school. The assignment was to draw a puffin. I had no idea at the time it was a bird. I drew a muffin on a beach watching the waves hitting the sand. I won the prize because my painting was the most imaginative. I was given a scholarship for a class at the Art Institute of Chicago. I rode the el (elevated train) to downtown Chicago, took a bus to the Institute every Saturday for six months. I was ten years old and the youngest in the class. I had an art teacher in the seventh grade who took a red marker and drew a big red X across one of my drawings when I painted the sky green, trees purple, and the grass red. She said I did not follow instructions. I always wanted to be an artist. When I got to high school, thank God, I had a wonderful art teacher, Miss Metz, who encouraged me to keep drawing and painting. 30 Radiance

This is how I supported my children for many years. I had the best of both worlds. I made a decent living and spent days with my children. Eventually the joy I had when I drew and painted left. It became a job. There was no room for creativity. I had to draw or paint how and what I was told. Once my children were in school, I changed careers. I received a business degree and began working in the corporate world in marketing and advertising department. I did this until 2003, when I lost my job almost two years after I moved to California.

into the rhythm. The joy came back as I watched the animals come to life on the canvases.
My best friend, Shari Young, with whom I worked as a writer on Today’s Woman magazine, from 2004 to 2008 kept asking me to do paintings of her three dogs. I refused because it had been over two decades since I picked up a paint brush. When we took a trip together to New Mexico during October 2011, she spotted a painting of a red dog that was the style she wanted. She asked me again to paint her dogs for her birthday. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to, I just didn’t think I had the gift anymore. However, I did tell her I would think about it. During 2012, while looking for something on Craigslist, I happened to see the art category. When I found an ad from someone who selling canvases for $100, I contacted her and said I wanted to buy them. When I arrived at her home, she said the canvases belonged to her 94-year-old grandmother who had just passed. She was handling the estate sale. She was selling 50 canvases for $100. They were worth at least $750. Her husband asked if I was interested in buying acrylic paints. He opened the garage door and my heart stopped. There were boxes and boxes of oil and acrylic paints, brushes, and three easels. He said I could buy them all for an additional $100. I quickly totaled up the cost of the paints (many were not opened) and brushes (many were still in plastic) had to be worth at least $2,000. I told him he was selling them for too little, but I couldn’t afford to pay what the supplies were worth. When she asked if I was an artist, I told her I hadn’t painted for decades, but my friend talked me into trying again. The woman looked at me and said, “I think my grandmother would have wanted you to have her paints. They should go to an artist. “ I cried and hugged them both. I put the top down on my convertible and they helped me pack very inch of the trunk and fill the back and passenger seats. I took side streets because I was afraid I would lose my treasure if I drove too fast or be stopped by the police. The first painting I did of Shari’s blonde golden retriever took about two weeks to paint. The second, her white Sheba Inu, took about a week. Her other Sheba took three days. It was strange at first, but I finally got back
A year later, I painted my dog Belle’s portrait which is shown on the previous page. For so long I did not share my God-given gift because I lost the joy it brought to me. I’m thankful to Shari for pushing me back to the path I had left long ago. Do you have a gift you aren’t sharing? Something in which you excel? Maybe it’s singing. Or dancing. Or playing an instrument? Or drawing. Or writing. Or playing a sport? Maybe, like me, you stopped because you lost the joy. Maybe it’s time to share your gift again.

3 Steps
to Heartbased Living By Ronna Prince
I
t seems we are inundated with messages about living in the heart. It’s the latest catchphrase. But really, what does it mean? It means living in balance with emotions and thoughts. It means allowing one’s heart to lead the way in decision making and actions. It does not mean letting unchecked feelings rule your life. But it also means, not letting unexpressed feelings limit your interaction and connection with others. Most of us have been raised to be logical, rational, hide our emotions, and just “get over it”. The problem we can’t solve today’s problems that were created by analytical and mind-based approaches. I’m convinced the analytical approach is what got us to where we are today, in many of the distressing situations we see in our lives, communities, and globally. 32 Radiance
November/December
So the question is: how do we really embrace heart-based living and be effective as leaders and decision makers in these times of change? We can do this by using a heartbased approach which has been distilled down to 3 simple steps: Dive In, Tune In, and Lighten up. It really is simple. It starts with a choice to go into the heart-based feelings and explore what is there. If you can’t or won’t do this, I’ve found that you’re putting a veneer over the truth of your existence. Mastering our emotions through the heart is the key to this intense transition. When we check into our hearts, we tend to make wiser, more compassionate choices and live more peaceful, connected lives.
STEP 1: Dive In! The first step is to have the willingness to dive in to the emotions
locked inside the heart. This does not mean re-experiencing the traumas of the past. Rather it is to acknowledge that your heart had to shut down in the past as a way of dealing with the hurts all humans experience to one extent or another. In diving in to the heart (step 1), we are really just allowing the awareness of feelings and emotions to surface. In this step, we dive in to touch what’s been locked inside. We follow the breath into our hearts and listen. We can ask “what’s in my heart?” Usually it’s a two or three word message that bubbles up, like: “I’m afraid”, or “be careful”, or “go for it!”
STEP 2: Tune In! The next step is to tune into the feelings behind these initial pearls of heart-wisdom. “What is my heart telling me?” If you hear: “I’m afraid” or “be careful”, that’s informing
TRUTH CONSCIOUSNESS BLISS
you that you need to spend some time allowing the associated emotional imprints to emerge. We do that by feeling whatever is there and accepting the feeling no matter what it is: Fear, anger, sadness, depression, happiness, joy. Tune into it, and allow it to move and flow.
As we allow ourselves to tune into these emotional states, we move the energy. When energy moves, there is room for heart-wisdom to emerge. Tuning in to the heart is what takes practice, because we’re used to turning to the mind to find our answers. But the truth is, our hearts know. Our minds will rationalize or justify. But the authentic tuned-in feelings of our hearts, will always lead us to compassionate and wise choices.
STEP 3: Lighten Up! Lighten up! This is essential. It means that after we do some intense emotional healing, we consciously choose to relax, enjoy, and embrace the gifts in life. At first, we have to focus and make it a priority. Because when dealing with emotions, we easily can get stuck in a state of perpetual healing and forget to enjoy each day. In this final step, we commit to looking around us and seeing and hearing beauty and joy, even if it’s just a small thing, like a flower, a bird’s song, or a loved one’s smile. Living in the heart is a balanced place, and in that balance, we make room for more joy and peace, not by ignoring, but by embracing the wisdom of the heart.
Ronna Prince is the filmmaker behind the new film “Sacred Journey of the Heart.” An Official Selection at the LA Femme Film Festival and featured at Sedona International and Awareness Fest Film Festivals, this documentary powerful and inspiring and traces the role of the heart in connecting us to our higher selves, spiritual essence, each other, the planet, and cosmic design. The heart is the single organ that creates a unified field among people and creates a harmonic field with the earth itself. The film reveals how modern science is proving what ancient peoples have known all along: we are all connected - and that connection is the heart. The Power to Change Your Life
By Guy Finley
I
t may sound strange and improbable, but this short article explains how it’s possible to actually change your past and let go of any painful experience that haunts you. The secret lies in awakening a littleknown skill every person is given at birth, but few ever realize they have: the ability to start life over any time we choose. It’s true: today is the first day of our life; but this truth is only of use to us if we know how to turn its power into something practical that can free us from painful regrets and disappointments carried over from our past. It may seem at first like starting life over every moment is a daunting and impossible task, but there is a simple method of bringing this power within our ready grasp. Here’s how we get started winning our new life: we must learn to allow every movement in our life – every unwanted memory, every emotion, every thought, and every relationship we have with whatever moves through us – to have its own life. If we look around, it’s evident that everything under the sun – from thoughts and feelings to trees and thunder – has its own birth, life, and death. This simple idea has extraordinary implications. It holds the key to the beautiful healing realization that the only reason any pain from our past persists is because there is something in us that won’t let it die out naturally. Any lingering sadness, regret, guilt, or resentment is an unnatural life form kept alive by our conditioned mind’s reluctance to let it go. 34 Radiance
November/December
Physicists have just recently started to understand what religious scholars, wise men, and mystics have known for thousands of years: every present moment is always new, and new is always right now. Another way to say this is everything is being re-born all the time. Now is constantly shedding the old in an endless celebration of life. Don’t mistake this for philosophy or a sentimental wish for a kinder, gentler universe. All of life unfolds through this process. We need only observe any living system to see the beauty and significance of starting over – and over and over and over. If anything in life fails to shed the old, it quickly stagnates. A spring that stops replenishing its new waters soon turns dank and sour. This powerful principle is never so true as when it pertains to human life. It is a scientific fact that the “you” who is reading this sentence right now will not be the same “you” who finishes it! This means there is no reason why any moment should ever seem stale or boring because real life, of which we are a part, is always new right now. Our task is to unleash the power of this fact in our own lives. You may be thinking, “That all sounds fine in theory, but how do I do it? How can I learn to really start over all the time?” Just as a weary rock climber must at times reach above himself to gain a difficult resting ledge, you too must dare to go beyond yourself to find the ever-present safety of the present moment. And, unlike rock climbing, there is no danger in the ascent to true self-understanding! The only real danger lies in stagnation – in failing to go beyond who you have been.
TRUTH CONSCIOUSNESS BLISS
Consider the happy implications: If you could discover that true relationship with the moment where there is an entirely new you every moment, it would mean with every heartbeat you would be free from any possible heartache that might have preceded it. In this new life, every relationship begins for the first time over and over again. Every discouragement is over right now. Every challenge and every difficulty is shouldered only in its time and is never carried forward or looked back upon with regret. Isn’t that what all of us really want . . . the freedom to be who we are, without the fear or limitation resulting from who we have been? Here’s a simple three-step exercise to help you turn this new knowledge into the power that sets you free. The next time you find yourself stressing over something from your past – or even upset over what seems like a present problem, such as being angry about something someone just said to you – follow these simple steps:
2. Let go! Instead of wrestling with that troubling thought or feeling, deliberately set it down with the aim of watching it go through its life cycle. Only now you aren’t going with it; and when it passes on, as we’ve learned all things must, you are free!
3. Start over! Take this bold new action over and over again each time you feel some familiar ache come calling for you to give it your life. You will soon know nothing in the universe can stop you from leaving the painful past behind and realizing a whole new you. Adapted from Guy Finley’s The Secret of Letting Go, Llewellyn Publications

C elebrating our Creative Spirit

oetry appears like this sometimes. We walk into IT unaware that we would meet a poem. And IT would meet or find us. But this happens more often than we realize. It is as though all our innate capacities are connected with all that is vibrant and enlivening outside us. So our inner and outer wink at each other as we move through spaces both inner and outer. The instant the inner and outer cohere, a whole thought is birthed— indeed, it is already present. Each moment we encounter awaits its 36 Radiance

manifestation in form. Whether it becomes a poem or an insight is not the point. The point is we are, in essence, continually creative beings and we create continuously. We are poets even if we do not write poetry. singular flute singing beauty of stars rainfall of light We each are a “singular flute” awakening to our desire for exploration, an autopoiesis through which we singly recognize each singular expression and destiny as a unique voice. Also unique and majestic are whole fragments of multitudes of singular destinies. Thusly, in a world wrought by dire conflict and confusion, we recognize in this
rain of light, that we collectively are carriers of virtue. If what we are about to create has not yet become apparent to the conscious mind, it is already creating itself. When we actually become aware of this sudden winking, we are delighted, surprised, and enlivened. We feel we have an unusual privilege to explore and express our deepest longing so we may cherish life and be nourished by it. Thusly, we are each a poem inspired by our own reflections. In turn, we inspire each other. sparkling leaf our eyes prisms of joy dancer’s carpet… Inspiring each other, we sparkle.

We enter new worlds, which we create. Such prisms of joy surround us that every particle of us is entranced by beauty that surrounds us. Indeed this weave of prismatic joy is a dance. We are continually in motion; our creating is a dance.
we are guardians responsible for the wellbeing and wholeness of all our relationships, with nature and with each other. An exploration of a new poetics is a natural result of our longing, awareness, and divine dispensation to be whole.
Imagine, if you will, moments of great insight, of excitement and wonder. Imagine being transported into other worlds where sparkling crystals mirror your delight. In such a state, let your witness self note how you move, halt, lift a hand or finger, pause, smile, weep. Note how your friend sings, runs, winks. Note how your child beseeches your indulgence. Note you arrive at every step aware and enlivened.
Thusly, poiesis and poetry are a “bridge to new worlds”; the poetic voice is our conscience residing in our expanding consciousness. Shall we then access this poetic in us for a greater expression of core essence! As we create, we endow our selves and one another with responsibility. This responsibility is a foundation upon which we may now carve our individual and collective destiny: to become that Love so longed for.
Your inner ear listens to rhythms in your patterns, how silence marks your step. Every act is a dance of delight, wonder, eros, courage, disgust, anger, victory, disgust, comedy, sorrow, laughter and tears. These aesthetics weave the carpet we stand and walk on. We are weaving a new carpet because it is time to do so. Shall it be woven with beauty and intelligence? rewoven gold silk fabric endures

Ambika Talwar will be presenting Poetry & Bliss: Embodying your Virtue, at the Women of Spirit & Faith, Alchemy: Occupy Your Sacred Space Conference - Nov. 7-10, 2013, San Francisco, CA. To register, http:// womenofspiritandfaith.org/category/ events-and-workshops. In this workshop presented by Amibika Talwar, we will talk about identifying with specific virtues and how we may embody them. Through movement or visualization we will find those gems, which highlight or remind us of those moments when we are in synch with true self. Then in a writing exercise, we will explore what it feels like, how to embody, and how it transforms. We will share a few as time permits and move in ways to more clearly experience our newly embodied self. http://womenofspiritandfaith.org/category/ events-and-workshops/ To prepare for tthe above please bring a notebook, pen, color pencils if you wish. Wear comfortable clothes. Bottled water is preferred over uncapped containers. I ask that you refrain from perfumes/ colognes and chewing gum.

We recognize that love is an organizing principle of wholeness, a dance both emptying and filling. Thanks During the Holidays
By Anita Moorjani
M
y childhood was a mixture of East and West. Since Hong Kong was a British colony mainly inhabited by Chinese residents, Christmas and Easter were celebrated with the same enthusiasm as the Hungry Ghost and Mid-Autumn Moon Festivals. Ah Fong, my Chinese nanny, and her daughter, Ah Mo Yee, taught me about Chinese traditions and beliefs as well as the meaning behind the festivals. I loved the fact that Ah Mo Yee stayed with us during her holidays. For example, the Hungry Ghost Festival was held on the 14th night of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. On that day, families prayed for the pains of their deceased relatives and gave offerings to their ancestors who had died. Anoop, my brother, and I watched Ah Fong, Ah Mo Yee, as well as Ah Chun, the cook, make offerings to their deceased relatives by burning effigies of fine goods made of paper. They lit a fire inside a large urn at the back of our home, at the bottom of the stairwell behind the kitchen, and fed the paper to the fire. The ef38 Radiance

figies resembled cars, houses, and fake money. It was believed their ancestors received these luxuries in the other realm. “Ah Fong, does your grandpa really receive a house in heaven if you burn that paper house?” I asked curiously. “Yes, Anita. My grandparents expect me to continue to remember and support them, even in the afterlife. We all have to respect our ancestors,” she told me. Ah Fong, Ah Chun, and Ah Mo Yee then sat down to a meal at their table at the back of the kitchen, which Ah Chun spent most of the of the day preparing. She set an extra place at the table before which she placed offerings of food for the deceased relatives to join in the festivities. I often joined them for this meal and was concerned about whether the ancestors were getting enough food! One of my favorite times of the year was the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival which celebrates the large harvest moon. Ah Fong took Ah Mo Yee and me to choose brilliantly colored lanterns available in many sizes and shapes, even animals of the Chinese zodiac that were

death and no longer need to reincarnate into a fleshand-blood body. That state is called nirvana.
This festival is similar to the American holiday Thanksgiving. It is celebrated by eating and distributing many varieties of moon cakes. Then we lit candles inside the lanterns with the other children in our neighborhood and hung them outside our homes, on trees, and fences. We were allowed to stay up later than usual and play by the light of the lanterns and the full moon, which was at its brightest of the year.
I was anxious and careful not to do anything that would create negative karma in a future life. Even as a youngster, my mind continuously processed what could be construed as creating good karma versus bad. I tried to perfect myself against a barometer created by my cultural beliefs.
My family also celebrated the Indian festivals with great enthusiasm, including (the Hindu Festival of Lights). We wore new clothes and it was an exciting time for me. Even as a child, I loved shopping for a new outfit. My mother usually took my brother and me to Lane Crawford, which was the largest department store in the central business district of Hong Kong. My mother and I looked for the most colorful dress and pinafore, while my brother shopped for a shirt and trousers. My mother bought a new, colorful sari and wore all her jewelry. My father dressed in a traditional kurta patloon (Indian shirt and pants). After dressing in our new clothes, my family went to the Hindu temple in Happy Valley to mingle with others from our Indian community and sing bhajans, which are Hindu devotional songs. Our voices, interspersed with chimes and bells, echoed through the high, domed ceiling of the temple and mingled with the evening air. I remember feeling the sounds of the temple bells reverberate through my being, touching a deep part of my soul. On every Hindu festival day, the temple courtyard came alive with color, music, dance, and smells of spicy Indian vegetarian food mixing with the sweet fragrance of incense. How I loved the atmosphere! “Mama, I’m going to get the mahraj [Indian priest] to put vermillion on my forehead!” I would shout to my mother in Sindhi, as I wove my way through the colorful crowd. The vermillion streak the mahraj dabbed on each person’s forehead signifies the opening of the third eye. I always made sure I received my red streak each time I went to the temple. Because of my Hindu roots, I grew up believing in the laws of karma and reincarnation on which most Eastern religions. We believe the purpose of life is to raise our consciousness and spiritually evolve through each cycle of birth and death to the point of reaching enlightenment. At that point, we break the cycle of birth and
My Hindu religion also taught meditation and chanting are two of many methods commonly used to cleanse the mind of impure thoughts and assist us in our quest for enlightenment. Anita Moorjani has become an international sensation since her book “Dying to be Me” hit the New York Times best sellers list only two weeks after its release in March, 2012. She experienced what most people never have; she “crossed over,” and came back to share what she learned. Her remarkable NDE (Near-death experience) and subsequent healing from end-stage cancer is one of the most amazing cases ever recorded. Doctors gave her hours to live when she arrived at the hospital in a coma on February 2, 2006. Unable to move, and in a deep coma resulting from the cancer that ravaged her body for four years, Anita entered another dimension where she experienced great clarity and understanding of her life and purpose here on earth. She was given a choice of whether to return to life or continue on into death. Anita chose to return when she realized that “heaven” is a state, not a place. This resulted in a remarkable and complete recovery within days of her return. Born in Singapore of Indian parents, Anita has lived in Hong Kong most of her life. She is multi-lingual. From the age of two, she spoke English, Cantonese, and an Indian dialect. She had worked in the corporate field for years before her cancer diagnosis in 2002. website: http://www.anitamoorjani.com Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Anita.Moorjani
