Coming Out of the Spiritual Closet Exploring Spirituality Can Be as Fun as a Ride in the Park by Scott Ware
LAST MONTH I POSTED A PICTURE OF MY DAUGHTER AND I ON FACEBOOK standing in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland. We were celebrating my birthday. The post got 84 Likes. A couple of days later, I posted a spiritual event, a holistic healing fair, and it got one Like. Just one. Scott Ware is the Editor-in-Chief of Radiance Magazine. He is an author and a playwright, and is the facilitator of the Spiritual Seekers Group at the Divine Art of Yoga Center ashram, where he practices meditation techniques and Kriya Yoga.
Which is as good a reason as any to seek out a guide or a healer—to clear out what’s blocking us from getting in touch with our inner truth to gracefully navigate this part of our spiritual journey
Now, putting aside the people who aren’t into anything spiritual (fine)… …and putting aside the folks who are religious or spiritual in a very specific manner and want to keep it that way (also fine)… …I concluded that a lot of people who would normally support this type of event in private are reluctant to come out of the closet as a spiritual person. Of course, people need to do what’s right for them. If they’re on a spiritual journey, their next step may not look like someone else’s. I remember when I hesitated before posting photos of myself participating in an event at the Divine Art of Yoga Center ashram in La Habra. What would friends and family think of photos with my face streaked in paint during Holi (an annual festival celebrating the coming of spring and repairing broken relationships)? Posting personal photos on Facebook can be a daunting to the ego. When people Like or ignore my post, how does that make me feel? (Many people forgo the experience entirely to avoid all that mental noise, which I completely understand.) Through my spiritual practice I realized I can’t please everyone, that life is too short not to be who I am. That was a life-changing realization. Being myself is much easier and attracts more of what I really want anyway (a nice bonus) rather than being at the mercy of an ego that requires insatiable validation which only causes suffering. Which is as good a reason as any to seek out a guide or a healer—to clear out what’s blocking us from getting in touch with our inner truth to gracefully navigate this part of our spiritual journey. I’m grateful Rev. Danielle Hewitt offered me the opportunity to be Editor-inChief of Radiance Magazine. I can now help some of the best spiritual practitioners in Southern California convey their healing message so Radiance readers will know therapeutic spiritual assistance is just a phone call or website away. On another note, the publisher of Radiance, the Temple of Light, is closing its doors at 11 Goddard in Irvine on July 31, transitioning from the physical realm to the mobileglobal dimension. Radiance will still continue and, in fact, increase in circulation 25%, starting with the issue you’re holding. I believe Radiance makes this realm a better place, and I thank you for your readership. The soul within me honors the soul within you (Namaste), Scott Ware Editor-in-Chief

What is your daily spiritual practice?

Awareness is my practice. I am conscious of my thoughts and if they are negative I gently shift and feed myself positive empowering messages. I light incense and bless my home. One of my favorite practices is staying connected to the animal kingdom and feeling a loving presence deep within my soul. Working with clients keeps me connected and allows me to stay in the moment.
Breath work (pranayama) and meditation are very important, but I tend to sprinkle my day with moments: when I first wake up and put my feet on the floor, or when I wash my eyes or go out to greet the sun, I give reverence. A prayer before I eat to remind me of my divinity and the divinity of the food. I try not to separate anything from my spirituality.

I am totally devoted to my daily spiritual practice, which is a very important part of my life: 26 minutes of meditation, a review of affirmations and ideal scenes, reading some spiritual text on soul transcendence or from A Course in Miracles. Finally, a card pull from a divinity deck. I have a beautiful sacred space where I fall into the flow and ask for Spirit’s assistance in guiding my day.
My spiritual practice is that I’m doing everything I can to be aware in every moment of my life. When I’m aware, I can know what is. I can ask more questions or deal with it, but I’m willing to deal with what’s what when it shows up good, bad or ugly. I also know I can choose joy no matter what.

Making Way for New Beginnings “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” Roman philosopher Seneca There are Three Simple Steps to navigate change that I’ve written about in earlier articles and now, with a sudden change of events, must actually implement. The first is to decide that no matter how bad a situation or circumstance initially looks, find the positive angle of the change. You’ll discover it’s actually true that everything does happen for a reason. The second step is to let go of the need to find the resolution or course of action solely by yourself but, rather, to pray and meditate for Spirit to help guide you. We often want to resolve something quickly so it’s tempting to jump right into a course of action before fully understanding the best way to go about it.
Decide that no matter how bad a situation or circumstance initially looks, find the positive angle of the change The third step is to find the courage and faith to know we can do what needs to be done and know that we have the maturity and patience to do it even if the resolution will take a while. Some life changes can take up to a year or two to fully implement. Resistance to change is futile, and burying our heads in the sand and pretending it’ll go away if we ignore it only creates suffering and exhaustion. Forward we must march but we do not need to “soldier” on. We can go forward with peace, trust and grace. I am experiencing this process myself quite acutely right now. Many of you already know that the physical location of the Temple of Light is closing and the Temple is transitioning to the mobile and global realm. But that’s far from the end of the story. Because many of you are on this journey with me, I wanted to share not only what brought us to this point but also the positive—if not miraculous—opportunities and beginnings that are forming in its wake. 8
by Rev. Danielle Marie Hewitt
I began this particular journey in 2005; I started taking classes and doing course work in the intuitive, spiritual and metaphysical world. Not only was I nurturing my relationship with my deepest self, but I was meeting people who would become some of my dearest friends, including Elizabeth Hendershot and Michele Amburgey, to name only a few. I had a vague notion of wanting to transition from working as a CPA in my family accounting practice to becoming a full-time intuitive counselor, but nothing seemed definite and the path to accomplish this was far from clear. Unbeknownst to me, change was on my doorstep. That summer, my husband and I received a call from the emergency room and heard these words: “You need to get here now.” My eldest daughter had been hit by a drunk driver. I was shocked and confused. We jumped in the car and something told me to “check in.” Up until this point, all the classes I had taken were more about personal amusement and fun. I said loudly in my head “Show me!” I was suddenly given and told—in a flash of images and words—that my daughter would be okay. I was so relieved. I was then shown the accident, how it happened and what her injuries were, which consisted of severe head trauma with a cracked skull. I trusted what I saw, and felt at peace. I tried to convey this news to my husband. He waved it off. I’d never demonstrated these skills before, so why would he believe me?
Many of you already know that the physical location of the Temple of Light is closing and the Temple is transitioning to the mobile and global realm We had to wait in the emergency room for what seemed like hours before we were given the official news of her status. During that time, my husband was in the greatest state of fear and angst I had ever seen. It seemed so wrong for me to be in such a different place. I remember

thinking, "All the world should be able to see and know the truth.” In that moment, I resolved to be a teacher of what I had just experienced. I heard myself say, “Everyone should be able to do what I just did and know the truth.” Everything happens for a reason and, although I have some insight into why the accident happened for my daughter, the bulk of the reasons remain safely tucked away in the confines of her relationship with the Divine. I certainly know why it happened for me. She did indeed recover in the manner and timeframe I was shown that night. I was even able to spend the summer at home with her as she convalesced, and she attended college in the fall as scheduled. I then went to my husband and said I would like to leave the firm and do this work full time.
We agreed on a two-year transition. I continued taking classes but this time with far more purpose and drive. On schedule, in early 2007, I finished up my accounting work and went full-time into this field. I continued honing my skills, learning how to dress and utilize all the special lingo. I was having the time of my life. But something was missing. I yearned for a place where spiritual people could gather, share, study and feel a sense of belonging. Most of us were black sheep or the strange one in the family (I was even given a “gag order” in my family of origin). I sat at my kitchen table one night and, after another fruitless internet search for some sort of spiritual center to go to. I said loudly in my head, “I need a community.”
Suddenly, the voice of Archangel Michael boldly answered, “Then build one.” A few days later, as I was doodling on some paper, I wrote the words, “Temple of Light.” I had already been ordained with the Universal Life Church a year earlier, so I

went on their website and applied for congregation status. On October 30, 2007, the “Temple of Light Spiritual Community” was born. My garage became a classroom and I decaled the back
window of my car. From the night we received the call from the emergency room, it took two years for the three steps I outlined above to come to fruition. A spiritual community was born that would change the lives of thousands of people over the next decade. Fast forward 10 years. My spiritual practice has grown by leaps and bounds. I’ve honed my skills, learned how to teach classes, and create monthly holistic healing fairs. The Temple housed onsite practitioners in our beautiful Irvine facility. We birthed a magazine called Radiance and created a lineup of classes and events so diverse and interesting that people kiddingly complained we had there were too many choices. The TOL team hosted Gary Renard, Larisa Stowe and Shakti Tribe, James Van Praagh, Tim Braun, Michael 9

We’ve hosted concerts, parties, celebrations and special observances. We’re known throughout the county and beyond to Los Angeles, San Diego and the Inland Empire. We made a home for the teachers and seekers in the spiritual community. We had arrived at the pinnacle of our success. Or so I thought. In April 2017, our property management company informed us that the building owner wanted to be in alignment with current market prices, which meant a 35% increase in rent. Interestingly, they suggested we couldn’t navigate such an increase, and they were right. I was initially shocked, but am happy to report I adhered to step one of navigating change. I decided something positive would come of it. I truly did not believe we would succumb to any negative demise. I held fast and kept my chin up. I had to hold space for everyone else, as all eyes were on me for the next move. For a month, I explored options. The most relevant one was with Jerry Woods of the School of Multi-Dimensional Healing Arts and Sciences, so when I got in my car and heard Archangel Michael say, “Call Jerry,” I wasn’t too surprised. I met Jerry for the first time, and we became fast friends. He said he was told by Spirit many months ago we would work together. We penciled out an arrangement where he would increase his space to house our community and we would run both communities as partners. It made a lot of sense on paper. My “head” was all in but my body was telling me a different story. Every time I talked about it excitedly, I became violently ill. I remember waking up the morning of the meeting where we would make it official. Before my head kicked into gear, I heard my body say loud and clear, “Please don’t do this!” When I arrived at the meeting, I stayed in my car and spoke with Archangel Michael (with the help of Michele Amburgey). 10
I was confused. Archangel Michael had guided me to open the Temple, stayed with me through the growth and sent me to Jerry. What was happening now? He said I could move forward with the merging of space with Jerry and be supported but my body would not recover from another three years of this kind of administrative pressure and financial responsibility. I knew deep in my heart this was true and accepted it. I sobbed. I went into the meeting sobbing and sobbed as I told Jerry I just couldn’t do it. He was gracious, understanding and kind. I sobbed for the next two days. My beloved Temple. What was happening? That’s when I took a left turn and abandoned Step One. No longer did I think something positive was happening. I thought I’d failed the Divine by letting the Temple go simply because I didn’t want to risk my health. Even though I know I live in a loving, giving Universe that had already forgiven me, I felt I’d failed in my mission to bring a community center to healers so they could do their work with a sense of belonging rather than feel ostracized. Despite these heavy-hearted feelings, I began telling everyone we were closing and continued sobbing. Not being able to bear it any longer, and needing guidance for which I was too upset and exhausted to conjure myself, I reached out to Stewart Pearce, who channels the Angels of Atlantis. As soon as the appointment started on Facetime, I was sobbing, and he said in his lovely British accent, “Oh poor darling, whatever is the matter?”
Then Archangel Michael spoke through him and pointed out that I was the only one weeping, the angels were not I managed to relay the circumstances. He empathized and told me about closing one of his schools. Then Archangel Michael spoke through him and pointed out that I was the only one weeping, the angels were not. I had not, in fact, broken prophecy but, rather, succeeded in it. Unbeknownst to me, the physical building of the Temple was meant to close. It was time for me to get some long-needed rest and emerge to take the Temple “mobile and global.” I stopped crying. I’d been hearing this phrase for months now and
July/August 2017
thought it meant something entirely different. The physical building is closing but the Temple is, in fact, expanding. Jerry’s school will expand because of this change and pick up many of the practitioners and physical aspects. I also initially thought, and even announced on Facebook, that the magazine was closing as well. But an amazing man who is now the Editor-inChief, Scott Ware, came forward and is not only continuing the magazine but expanding it, giving it the time and attention I was too exhausted to fully provide. I also heard that Awakenings Metaphysical Bookstore purchased Visions and Dreams in Costa Mesa and is expanding that venue. So, good changes are happening all throughout our community. Step One is restored! At this writing, I happily await guidance on Steps Two and Three to see what will happen next. My new journey awaits me! I asked, and you may be asking too, why did the messages over time not come more forthrightly? The answer is we must make the decisions ourselves. Spiritual guidance does not mean “tell me what to do.” The mix of destiny and free will is a concept I continue to explore. For today and the time to come, I am so thrilled to continue to write for the magazine as well as teach classes and see clients at the School of Multi-Dimensional Arts and Sciences. Our community has not only expanded, it has bonded. My tears are now of pure joy. With love and blessings, and at your service always, Rev. Danielle Marie, Messenger of Light and Founder of the Temple of Light Spiritual Community, mobile and global.

Hypnosis Is as Easy as Counting 1, 2, 3, 5 And Results Are Quick and Painless As a professional hypnotherapist, I’ve participated in many profound and amazing healings over the years. But in the earlier stages of my career, I performed hypnosis as a form of entertainment. At a party, a particularly suggestible subject I’ll call Mr. B quickly went under hypnosis to do various silly things for the audience, which they loved. At the end, I suggested that when I woke him up, the number 4 would be missing from the numerical system. He nodded in agreement, so I woke him up. As soon as he opened his eyes, I asked him if he had been hypnotized. “Absolutely not!” he said, laughing confidently. “Okay,” I said. “Can you tell me how many fingers you have?” “Ten, of course.” “How many on each hand?” “Last time I checked I had five fingers on each hand.” “Would you mind counting them for me?” “Sure, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10…11.” “How many fingers did you say you have?” I asked again. “Ten,” he responded, a little less confidently. “I must have heard you incorrectly. I thought you just counted 11. Would you count them again for me?” “Okay,” he said, now almost sheepishly. “1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10…11.” Mr. B contacted me after the fun and games and told me he was terrified of dentists, needles and hospitals. He had experienced a painful incident as a child where the Novocain didn’t fully do its job. The emotional, physical and cellular trauma now produced fear, anxiety and anger. He resolved never to put himself in that position again. But he asked me if I could help because he needed dental surgery. I agreed. I decided to fortify his suggestibility by telling him not only would he face the dentist courageously, but he would numb his own face, gums and jaw. The results? He numbed his own face so well he didn’t need any Novocain, and he remained unusually calm during the entire procedure. In all honesty, Mr. B was a rarity. None of my clients before or since have demonstrated that much physical control over their bodies. Every now and then, I run across a client so willing to get 12

Q&A with Donna Bond A Wake-Up Call is Nothing to Fear Divining the Truth of our Journey With squirrels scurrying under our park bench and the waves of Capistrano Beach in the background, Transformational life coach DONNA BOND talked about the importance of our spiritual journey. –Radiance RADIANCE: One of your favorite quotes is Anais Nin’s, “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in the bud became more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” For some people though, that day hasn’t arrived, and yet there are signs of agitation that would indicate they’re not happy or not living a fulfilling life. What would you draw their attention to?
The purpose of this life is the discovery and delivery of who we really are DONNA BOND: We have these gentle nudges and tender pulls where our hearts long to go. But it’s our ego that’s so quick to talk us out of our heart’s longing. For all of the usual reasons, right? Security, comfort, control. Our ego will bring these things up to talk us out of our truest desires, which is all part of being human, by the way. I believe the purpose of this life is the discovery and delivery of who we really are, which is different for everyone. To peel back the layers and find out what’s budding inside of us, everyone has it! You didn’t come here without a purpose. But we ignore it. We pretend it’s not there. We come up with a million reasons not to listen.
R: What are some reasons? DB: There’s fear. Maybe we were brought up a certain
way, in a certain culture, and given a set of beliefs we think are our own. But oftentimes they’re not.
14
What’s logical or true for the tribe is not necessarily true for me. And it’s the journey to that discovery that makes life so rich. Many people don’t know how to take that journey or why, because the journey is often in the dark, right? It’s in the divine unknowing. So it’s very difficult for us to be heading in a direction where we can’t see the path or the outcome. So we go back to what we know. Our egos like to be comfortable doing what’s familiar and for this reason we’ll keep on doing that old thing, even if it’s something we don’t like.
R: With all your talents what do people most seek
you out for?
DB: People who are drawn to me are people who
are looking for change in their life. People who are serious about transformation. I’m a straight-shooter, and I can hold up the mirror for people in a real beautiful, gentle and loving way.
R: Do you think people get that when they watch the
video on your website, or when they read what you’ve shared from your life? They’re going to be ready when they come to you.
DB: That’s right. What’s logical or true for the tribe is not necessarily true for me. It’s the journey to that discovery that makes life so rich
R:
You said, “When you see everybody as one, you recognize every one.” Many spiritually minded people know this, but have a hard time sustaining it. What tips do you give to help people hold onto the knowledge of oneness with everyone?
July/August 2017
DB: Drop the judgments. Just drop the judgments. DB: Let’s be clear: nobody needs a coach. The
That’s what keeps us separate. Even quantum mechanics says we’re living in a hologram and everything is a reflection of what’s going on in our own consciousness. So when we’re judging something or someone–and judging ourselves–we’re not realizing it, but it’s creating our reality.
people who want a coach are looking for the collaboration, the “togetherness” in having somebody assist them in being a greater version of themself.
R: Too many people take one or two steps and stop. Is that because they experience painful failure?
I operate with the philosophy that everyone is doing the best they can with the tools they’ve got to work with. And People who are drawn to me are people who are looking for change in their life. People who are serious about transformation
DB: What happens is we psych ourselves out. We think, holy s***, I have to take a million more steps between here and there to get where I want to go and I don’t know how I’m going to do that. So I first recommend, “Do one thing, every day, with what you have, where you are.” We’re born as creators to create our lives. And it’s the journey along the way that unfolds who we really are.
everybody’s on their own path. Everybody’s here for their own life lessons and to work their own spiritual curriculum. Who am I to say that’s right or that’s wrong, that’s good or that’s bad? It just is.
If you’d like assistance
R: Successful people use coaches. Do people see the idea of using a coach as an indulgence they don’t need?

Regional Holistic Learning Center Warmly Opens Its Arms Bringing Together an Even Bigger, More Bonded Community The School of Multidimensional Healing, a holistic learning center in Irvine, has provided a beacon of light in Orange County since 2010. “My life just changed tonight,” is a phrase commonly heard in our halls, and we’ll endeavor to continue bringing self-connection, higher consciousness and healing into the lives of ALL who seek this knowledge. A new student was heard saying just that the other night after a class about the manifestation of money and how it connects to self-trust. Another woman said, “I feel less stressed now,” after a meditation class. When I hear these comments, I feel satisfied that we’re on the right track, assisting the community in important ways. So with the motivation to accomplish even more of that kind of personal transformation for the higher good, I want to announce the new offerings of the School of Multidimensional Healing:
“My life just changed tonight” is a phrase commonly heard in our halls
Beginning on July 30, the Oneness Center OC will make SMHAS its home. The Oneness Center OC is a sacred space for individual and global spiritual awakening, authentic expression and empowered lives. They offer wonderful guided meditations every Sunday; they provide a loving environment for our children; they inspire us to live in higher consciousness and collectively support each other to help manifest our dreams. Welcome! We are also expanding to include a new 1200-squarefoot event space and classroom, capable of seating more than 120 people. An open house in September will celebrate the new additions, so we hope to see you there. The school has more than 100 classes scheduled over the next six to eight weeks, ranging from meditation and Kundalini yoga to advanced energy healer certifications, 16
mandala painting, workshops on self-love, spiritual fundamentals and Reiki certifications. There’s something for everyone’s unique self-empowerment or spiritual interests and needs. A diverse group of more than 60 holistic practitioners, teachers and healers are already active here. You can check out our many classes and events at smhas.com, or join us at meetup.com/smhasoc. SMHAS is also becoming a shared space for holistic practitioners offering private sessions. The center provides monthly rental offices as well as ad-hoc space for private sessions at $20 an hour. As if all this wasn’t enough, SMHAS is announcing a new partnership with The Source, a food and music venue in Buena Park, just north of Knott’s Berry Farm. Beginning in July, we will provide a new version of our monthly Holistic Faire at this beautiful new shopping center, along with other family-oriented holistic events and classes. Through all this activity, we are blessed to have an active and engaged advisory council consisting of Bruce Dickson, Janet Whitener, Carlos Casados, Roz Esposito, Danielle Hewitt, Roz Biles and myself, Jerry Woods, founder. These forward-thinkers bring a wealth of wisdom and experience to help guide the school. I offer a heartfelt thank you to each of you for your time and contribution, graciously given for the highest good of all who are touched by this school. We look forward to seeing you soon at one of our many events or classes, or at our next Holistic Faire with many Readers, Practitioners and Healers to sample, from 11am-5pm on July 29th (always the last Saturday of the month) at 18271 McDurmott West, Suite G & H, Irvine, 92614. Expanding Your Capacity to Receive 3 Simple Ways to Get Unstuck You may be a giver, but are you a good receiver? Or are you living in survival mode? Trapped in 3D reality, living in the worry, the fear, scarcity and the “not knowing?” The good news is it’s all an illusion. Here are three simple ways to expand your capacity to receive what you want out of life: 1. Ask for help and the universe will meet you halfway. Trust this. The opportunity will show up; your job is to recognize it and take it. There were times when I gave so much to life (and others) that I became exhausted, weak and even felt taken advantage of. I knew I needed to find an appropriate balance of giving and receiving. 2. Keep letting go of old limiting beliefs I call these sandbags because they lower your vibration so ego can continue to run rampant and rule the show. A sandbag can be a hidden (unconscious) belief, which can be reflected in the language we use. For example, “I don’t deserve good things.” The key to breaking out of all of this? It’s simple yet powerful: strongly and clearly voicing what you want in your life. And then become confidently ready to receive it. 3. Your soul will guide you. You may not feel it all the time but you are born to receive all the goodness life offers. It’s your birthright. If you feel like things aren’t moving fast enough, it’s because your core beliefs aren’t yet aligned. My Soul Sessions can assist you with that. My business accelerated when I purged an old money story: my parents never had money and believed they would never have enough. I adopted that belief without even knowing it and lived it until I used these techniques to get free of it, which allowed me to receive. One of my primary techniques is that I’m able to work effectively with the archangels and ascended masters, including Jesus Christ. His teachings gave me the ability to expand my capacity to receive. And that’s what I pay forward to you in my Soul Sessions. During my Soul Session with you, I will work with your subconscious through the Theta state so that whatever 18

needs healing will surface and get unstuck. I’ve found this to be a particularly effective method for dealing with ego-blocking issues (sandbags!). And I make it a very comfortable experience. Releasing your limiting beliefs will put you in harmony with your soul. You will then automatically expand your capacity to receive much more than you can imagine. You can heal this! A Journey of Transformation Join me for a Sacred Retreat to Peru The first time I went to South America I had never thought of it as a holiday destination. There was no calling or feeling that I had to walk the Inca trail. I had actually only traveled with my parents to Europe when I was very little and hadn’t been out of the country since. But when my Shaman told me we were going, I knew I had to say yes.

profound experience with the 2 healings from my Shaman, I tuned in and listened. When we landed in Cusco the music that came on the plane was my Mothers favorite song by the artist Enya and I knew I had her blessing. It was exactly 1 year and 1 month from the date of her transition. The moment I stepped
I was in no way prepared for the awakening that was about to unfold.
I was finally connecting to my spirit guides and trusting my intuition like never before It was the summer of 2007. My mother had passed the year before and I was devastated. I almost died from a liver biopsy in 2006 and had just returned to California after spending 5 years in Idaho getting my Masters Degree in Theatre. The last thing I was looking to do was travel. I was in fear around finances and had not yet landed a job in the field I had worked so hard to get into. I felt lost and alone, in some ways hopeless. My youngest daughter Victoria was a teenager and had just started her freshman year in High School. The last thing I felt I should be doing was running off to Peru on a spiritual tour but I had such a
upon the land I could feel a more peaceful vibration. The energy was incredible. The air was clean and crisp, the people smiling and friendly. I felt as though I had just gone back in time and in a way I had. We all got on a bus and headed to the Sacred Valley. As we passed snowcapped mountain ranges (called the Apus) I could feel the energy and strength of those tall proud mountains. We learned about the Qero-ancient medicine men and women of the Andes, the ancestors who had come before us and prayed for a better world. A world of Ayni (reciprocity) where one is open to give and receive. A world of balance. I was given medicine rites high a top the mountains and blessed by the Qero. I felt loved and connected to a time long ago. Although I had not yet fully claimed my role as Shaman I could feel the call and was honored to be answering. Since that trip I have returned 7 times each time creating stronger bonds and awakening ancient knowledge within myself. In 2009 I took a small group to anchor in the masculine and feminine energies from 2009-2010 while planting crystals deep within the earth. We celebrated New Years Eve and while the Peruvians were dancing in the streets we headed up to the Temple of the Moon in the

pouring rain to install medicine rites under the stars. It was magical. My upcoming journey is October 12-21 2017 and is sure to be a trip of a lifetime. While guiding 17 people in 2015 I happened upon an orphanage. I had always wanted to feel I was giving back to the Peruvian people when bringing groups so when I discovered this magical land I felt it was a Godsend. They own a quaint retreat center in the heart of the Sacred Valley next to the Orphanage where we stayed and held ceremony. It was divine and I am renting it again for October. This year we will spend more time in Pisaq (one of my favorite villages) at the beginning of our journey before heading off to the land. Each day will be filled with deep awakening, connection and teachings. I will also install the Munay-Ki. For those of you unfamiliar with this please go to www.munayki.org for more information. We will begin our mornings with teachings and move throughout our day in the energy of the lesson. The energy of the land itself is the best teacher. This is not a tour. There will be no guides telling you about each site. There will be you and I and our soul tribe collecting pieces of our pasts and incorporating them in present time consciousness.
I have many stories from all the traveling I have done since 2007 but what I want to leave you with is this: live your life in the present. Do not be afraid to experience all the world has to offer. If I had not listened I would have stayed stuck inside the confines of my mind. Instead, I answered the call and since that time have not only traveled to Peru but to Europe extensively. We are meant to explore, to experience different cultures and get to know ourselves at a deeper level. One of the cards from the Good Vibes deck my daughter and I developed says, “Take a Leap of Faith and do the Unexpected this quote is my mantra. The more I trust the Universe, the more it is able to step in and assist me. I know this to be true for all of you as well.

The Sanctuary’s Nurturing Approach to Healing Holistic Ayurveda, Yoga, and Intuitive Healing for Mind-Body Health When I entered The Sanctuary in Old Town Tustin, I immediately experienced a feeling of calm and peace. It has served as a spiritual haven for many years and offers y oga a nd healing, especially through Ayurveda, which is Ajita Patel‘s specialty. -Radiance Radiance: What do you want people to know about The Sanctuary? Ajita Patel: That it’s a space for healing. If they have any health concerns or if they’re seeking a community where they can learn about health—and connect with others interested in holistic health and complementary medicine—this is the place to come. Initially, most people come for yoga and meditation classes, some for relief from pain or stress and to get a massage, and they often fall in love with the energy here, exploring all the other incredible healing modalities and experience dramatic health results. Healers practice here because of the space and the nurturing environment. They are experienced and sincere in their practice, and that comes across. When it comes to healing, I want people to know they can come here and trust. We’ll take the time to listen, to pay attention to who they are, what’s going on and why. We’re going to explore how to get them well and find balance again. A lot of my patients have never received that kind of attention before.
R: What would surprise people about Ayurveda? AP: It’s very simple, intuitive and natural. It’s not foreign or a fad. In fact, it’s ancient and time-tested over thousands of generations.
We hear a lot about integrative medicine or functional medicine or mind-body health. Ayurveda is exactly this 22
and more. It’s a complete manual for how to live every aspect of your life so that you live to your fullest potential. It starts with getting to know who you are, what your challenges and tendencies are, your unique personality and your daily routine.
(People) often fall in love with the energy here
R: Becoming aware of these things could be a new experience in itself? AP: Yes. Many people have never paid serious attention to these things, and our busy lifestyles and traditional medicine certainly don’t emphasize it. Ayurveda is all about creating Self awareness and really paying attention to how the mind and body responds to what comes in from our senses.
R: What is involved in an Ayurvedic treatment? AP: Initially, the focus will be to address the health of your digestive system, the state of your mind and your lifestyle. Based on your specific condition, you may be given custom-blended herbs, specific food guidelines (not just what you eat, but how and when). You may be given breathwork techniques (known as pranayama) or you may be prescribed therapeutic Ayurvedic body therapies. Gradually, you will be guided to create a healthy lifestyle that sustains you so that you have energy, strength, flexibility, alertness, enthusiasm, contentment and joy regardless of your circumstances or relationships. Talk to Your Money and It Will Love You Back
Making Money Matter in a Spiritual World How do spiritual people move from fear to love when it comes to money? To stop suffering from the tension we feel between the spiritual and material worlds, we must learn to embrace both worlds as part of our own duality. Money then becomes an important spiritual learning tool. A lack of money or a mindboggling amount of it is often used to get our attention.
How do spiritual people move from fear to love when it comes to money? A person who’s on a spiritual or artistic path seldom finds it easy to love money, especially when low-vibrational emotions like fear and greed come up. To move back to love is to accept that the Universe always has our back. What if I told you that you could get this incredible freedom and power by talking to your money? Yes, a series of chats need to be had with your dinero. When you become your own money whisperer, you’re no longer at the mercy of what is essentially energy that takes the form of these pieces of paper we use for necessities, pleasure and to help make the world a better place. In fact, we can learn to speak lovingly and even compassionately to money to overcome subconscious blocks from childhood that magnify our emotions. It puts us back in control to create money with grace and ease. 24
Talking to your money helps your beliefs around money get in sync with what you really want. Grounded and spiritually minded people want to make a real difference in the lives of those who need help taking care of themselves. We want to provide for worthy causes and advance social justice. We want to feed the hungry and clothe the poor. We want to provide health care for the mentally ill and help underprivileged students go to school with full stomachs. Finally, we want to expand the collective consciousness to help create a peace-loving, prosperous global community that cares for humanity and teaches tolerance and love to all. It would be great to have more than pocket change to do that. In my practice, I invite my clients to openly look at their relationship with money in a safe, nonjudgmental environment: What’s good, bad or

ugly. Then we find solutions to shift our default settings from negative to positive emotions. This new freedom frees us from stress, helps us find our creativity and catapults us forward to earn more than enough. We then explore how to create multiple-income sources, how to make the current business more profitable, how to save on taxes, how to make a plan that’s both exciting/rewarding and manageable. The Modern Mystery School for lightworkers encourages people to “Know Thyself.” What does it take to know ourselves?

Spirit through service to others. Although we all have our own unique paths, many people on a spiritual quest tend to find answers to ancient questions like “Who am I?” “Why am I here?” and “What is my purpose?” in relation to other people. In other words, once we discover how our gifts can best serve others, we find our flow and meaning.
This work is about helping you uncover that what your sacred contract is, what your mission is. How does your mission interact with the missions of others? The Mystery School uses ancient tools and scriptures and what we know about people and missions that came before us to answer these questions. People like artists, leaders and great thinkers of their age; innovators, gamechangers.

I was struggling with depression, I was on antidepressants. I was done. I didn’t want to go back to law school. The Life Activation changed all that.

Out of Balance and Still Breathing Healing is All About Alignment I firmly believe any disease is caused by a lack of balance. Sometimes you can literally see this lack of balance just by looking in the mirror. When you look at yourself, does the reflection speak to you of stress, tiredness, trauma or even disease? If so, the message is clear: You are out of balance. The interesting thing is we don’t notice this very often because being out of balance is considered normal. You can see it all around you. In this culture of consumerism and electronic “friendship” (with our personal devices), many of us are seriously disconnected and becoming more so every day. It shows in our stress
We tend to allow our T.V.’s, computers, the media and other electronic addictions keep us from that all-important silent time we need to nurture our soul and connect with our divine spark, that higher self that truly informs us
levels, over-consumption and other unhealthy, out-ofbalance behaviors. We think we’re so connected on “social” media, but how real is that? And why do we feel so lonely when we have so many “friends?” We text-message each other but are the heart’s needs being met in that electronic exchange? We tend to allow our T.V.’s, computers, the media and other electronic addictions keep us from that all-important silent time we need to nurture our soul and connect with our divine spark, that higher self that truly informs us. The “system” convinces us that we must abide by rules the powers that be make up, and that we must work hard inside of that system to survive—even if it means overworking ourselves to the point of disease. (It’s interesting that there’s even an official disease in Japan called karoshi, which means “death by work.”) The word thrive doesn’t come up much. 28

I’ve come to see and experience that it really all comes down to only a few concepts: balance, healing and alignment, which are very much the same thing. I remember when I looked in the mirror and saw someone dying of cancer (it’s true), I knew I had to de-stress, forgive, grieve and get the trauma out quickly to heal my body. When you’re out of balance, and if you’re still breathing, you’re still in the hopeful process of achieving balance. Thankfully, I was, and in seeing that reflection, put me on the forever-interesting journey of healing. Layers of myself came into balance, and in greater alignment with my divine self. The bonus is that when you heal yourself, you heal the world too, one influential person at a time. It is a wondrous journey. Atma Namaste If you’re ready to heal and let go, I may be your healer. When “The More the Merrier” Isn’t True The Challenges of a Multi-Cat Household Adding another cat to your household just means there’s more love, right? What could go wrong? Unfortunately, a lot could go wrong, like marking, aggression and peeing outside the litter box. Recently, I did a session with sister and brother cats named Snow and Theodore. They got along well...until a stray entered their fold. Suddenly, someone was spraying, but who? Was it Gremlin, the new resident with a mysterious past? Although Gremlin had sprayed once or twice, I
People mistakenly believe that because they love one animal so much, adding another will be easy discovered that the major culprit was Theodore. Theodore saw himself as a brawny guy not too keen on Gremlin. This caused friction. Gremlin hid and cowered. The saddest thing about shelter overcrowding is that people mistakenly believe that because they love one animal so much, adding another will be easy. When it turns out to be difficult, someone goes to the pound, and usually dies there! So I urge you to stick to one pet, or truly commit to the integration techniques I will share with you here, and it can all work out. If you already enjoy several cats but there’s tension, look for job and territory issues. Every pet needs a unique job; something that pet does naturally well. A shy cat shouldn’t be “The Greeter.” Let him gain confidence by being the best cuddle-cat first. Let’s return to Snow, Theo and Gremlin. At an energetic level, we gave each one a new job—demoting an arrogant Snow from Queen to “Gentle Mother.” Pushy Theo became “Town Crier of Food,” which reduced his brawler instinct. Gremlin was called “The Healer,” and was promised quiet time with the owner. I talked with them energetically and showed them pictures of them seated peacefully together. On a practical level, we integrated their scents by switching around their litter boxes and giving each private time in the other’s territory, so they would stop dividing it. Here’s what you can do, too, in your multi-cat household: 1. Always provide at least one more litter box than cats. 2. Create plenty of high ledges and low spaces for your cats to escape to. 3. If one cat is being bullied, give the bully a new role, then 30
By Kara of Pet’s Eye View
move the bully cat to another room while you let the less dominant cat spend 20 minutes with you and its own blankets (in the original room) to help mix their scents. 4. In a disputed territory, use a baby-gate with plenty of distance on either side. Offer positive rewards by feeding premium wet food to both. This way, each cat relates positively to the other. Over a period of weeks, move the food and the cats closer to each side of the baby-gate until they’re comfortable with each other. One month later, Snow, Theo and Gremlin are living peacefully and happily together. Got a multi-pet family? I can get to the heart of their personalities and issues. Beauty from the Inside First Don’t Buy the Lie We all get to own a body on this planet. A healthy body, sick body, vibrant body, tired body, skinny body, round body, all kinds. Are you enjoying your embodiment? Or are you harshly judging it, perhaps constantly? Do you adore your body? Or do you torture it with diets and food restrictions? Do you see your body as a source of joy and pleasure, guidance and delight? Or a source of frustration and suffering? Is feeling unhappy with your body a healthy way to live? What if we understood at a deeper level that the negatives we punish ourselves with are simply lies and tricks the ego-mind uses to keep us unhappy and discontent? What if you were eternally grateful for your magnificent body? How would you and your body feel then? How would that change your reality?
You Create Your Reality, Not Vice Versa You have the power to make a life-strengthening pivot once you understand that your point of view creates your reality, not the other way around. You can be the master creator of your life and your body wellness. Have you ever considered that your body has a voice? Do you ever ask your body what it would like to eat or wear, or even whom to have sex with? I bet you don’t. We tend to rely on our preconceived, programmed beliefs to make choices. But we never ask our bodies. One technique we can use to gauge what’s good for our body is known as “the sway test.” 32
Get Swayed Stand up, relax with your feet together and say: “Body, show me a yes.” If you’re relaxed and neutral, your body will naturally sway forward. Now say: “Body, show me a no.” Your body will sway backwards. Practice until your body starts naturally communicating with you. (Being hydrated also helps get clearer responses.) When you start getting clear yes’s and no’s, ask: “Am I in my body?” Is your body moving forward or backward, or maybe staying stuck or going slightly to the side? If you’re not clearly leaning forward, pull your focus back into your body and ask

again. It’s a simple tool that will help you become more present. And it’s so subtle you can use it in public places, like restaurants and grocery stores. When I can’t seem to wake up in the morning or feel like I’m getting sick, I’m usually not in my body. So I got into the habit of starting my day with checking if my being is back from the night’s adventures in the universe so I can start fresh and alive, ready to enjoy the pleasures of the day. If you would like to get more in tune with your body and feel better about your life, please contact me at 949-315-9260. I wish you infinite happiness and lifelong joy with your body.

Is Your Life A Rerun? Time to Create A New Program
We know that some things will continue to happen: you’re going to keep breathing, your heart will beat another 42 million times or so, and another year will tick by. Those are reliable and, mostly, desirable reruns. For a lot of people sleepwalking through life, this is all they count on. But what if you could choose to not hit the replay button, doing things in the same, old unfulfilling way? What if you could take an active role in designing a life you love? We all know life is supposed to be about joy, fulfillment and happiness. Period! But a voice inside of us insists on coming up with reasons not to pursue them wholeheartedly, and, more often than not, we listen to that voice. I invite you to consider that life is supposed to be fun! We all know life is supposed to be about joy, fulfillment and happiness. Period! But a voice inside of us insists on coming up with reasons not to pursue them wholeheartedly, and, more often than not, we listen to that voice It took me half my life to figure that out. If I’m honest with myself, every year was a rerun of the year before. Working 10 hours a day, bringing someone else’s vision to life (when I knew deep down there was a vision I wanted to bring alive). Weekends were spent recovering. Monday would come and I’d hit the replay button again. But at the age of 44, something happened. I woke up with the sobering thought: “Holy crap, this is the age my father was when he died.” That thought hit me like a lightning bolt. My father spent his life working, and taught me that life was about hard work and sacrifice. For a long time, I believed him. Then I realized it wasn’t. At least not for me. While I deeply revere my father, I realized that my “limited, patterned thinking” was running my life. One of my mentors, Mary Morrissey, says, “What you trade your time for, you trade your life for.” This is a powerful idea that didn’t fully register for me until that sobering moment. Now my days are filled with an aliveness and purpose I 34

couldn’t even conceive of back then. It wasn’t until I started taking one step at a time in my journey, instead of staying flat-footed, that I finally got in the flow of life. I want that for you too. What would you love to experience? Are you caught in a loop of reruns? I remind you—you are a creator. When you intentionally partner with the universe, anything is possible. Awaken within you the idea that you are here to birth the authentic YOU. You have unlimited potential to be a greater (and the true) version of yourself. Let’s remove the blocks and get on with the life that’s been waiting for you. I Am That, I Am Just Plain Ol’ Me Having an Amazing Experience The hills were alive with the sounds of new world music. In a once-quiet mountain meadow, a mash of celebrants playfully pulsated to the high-vibe tunes under the brilliance of a supersize full moon. It was the June 2009 Raw Spirit Festival, a raw vegan extravaganza of all things eco, deep in the Santa Ynez Mountains above Santa Barbara. Live music, live food and live wires, all emitting “The Glow” attributed to eating uncooked (and allegedly enzyme-rich) fruits and vegetables. I was hanging out at the back of the peacelovers’ mosh pit, feeling somewhat like a benevolent gatekeeper of what I wasn’t sure. Younger people in mostly organic garb of sheer gauze with beads, bangles and bare midriffs were bumping up to each other in front of me. With all of this going on, I happened to look up to see where the light was coming from and, yep, the gate opened and, like a big pizza pie, the full moon hit me right in the third eye. In all its HD glory, the high-contrast image of a bright white moon silhouetting the intricate details of pine needles transfixed me. As I stared, a palpable energy showered down on me. It filled me to the brim. Suddenly, I was the moon, I was the pine needle. I was the rock, the bush, the blade of grass. Everywhere I looked, I became part of everything. I now understood the meaning of “I am that, I am” (note the comma). I was that, and that, and that (and I wasn’t on anything; not part of my lifestyle). 38

I turned back to the crowd and felt BIG. The music filled me to my loins and ran up and out my arms. I began swaying in big, expansive movements. My chest opened up to the sky and my heart felt massive. I looked with genuine love, no kidding, at everyone around me. Energy radiated out from my heart like moonbeams. Perhaps trite, but I was finding this maxim true: love is all there is. The kids near me started to notice, forming a circle around me. I didn’t become self-conscious and just smiled at all of them. They joined in, making big, expansive movements of their own. I slipped away and went back to my tent. I could hear the music playing in the distance but now it was just me and the moon. I sat outside, staring up at my mentor for who knows how long. I imagined why wolves howl at the moon. It’s a longing love song. I was tempted. In the morning, I felt like I’d been up all night with an intense lover. I wore sunglasses all day while enjoying a spattering of expert speakers, more music and a cornucopia of sensual raw food treats (including handcrafted chocolates), organic oils and essences, massage and fresh-squeezed juices. I grabbed a ride home that night from friends, knowing my system could overload at any minute. In the end, I do not profess to be anything other than plain ol’ me having an amazing experience who now knows that we are all that, we are. “Listen to Your Heart Voice” A Channeling from the Queen of Angels Summer is such a great time to be outside with each other and with nature. It seems like it will go on forever, but as we all know, the only constant is change itself. For instance, our Beloved Temple of Light has graduated to Etheric Temple status and will no longer be here in physical form. It will be greatly missed, but we also know that it goes on in our energetic patterning both personally and collectively. It will stay in our hearts.
The next phase of your journey, from wherever you are reading this right now, is to be found by going into quiet and meditation even more than ever before Even so, there is a sadness amongst those of us who have been a part of this beautiful space. So as we each begin to shift ourselves into the next phase of our work, and I call upon the Angels to share their insights and wisdom. I find myself feeling a soft presence, and I recognize the presence of the Queen of the Angels herself, Beloved Mother Mary sitting beside me. She says “Beloved children, thank you for your beauty and your loving Light that you share into the world. It is within each of you to carry the Divine Light inside of you, and it is part of each person’s soul purpose to use that Sacred Light for good. But in order to do this, you must throw back the veils of time. You must release the pains of lives lived unfulfilled as you grow into the pureness of your True Being. This Earth walk is not easy, and is not for the faint of heart. You knew this when you chose to be here at this time. You are the brave souls who believe in the good, and are ready to shine your Sacred Beauty to fulfill the desires of the One True Divine Presence that many of you call God or Goddess. For many lives you lived blind and unconscious. But slowly, ever so slowly, you have risen

beyond the darkness. You have found your Light. And you are ready for the next phase of your journey.” “The next phase of your journey, from wherever you are reading this right now, is to be found by going into quiet and meditation even more than ever before. The secret, the key, the guidance, and the answers are all found in the Inner Sanctum of your Holy Temple. Your inner self, your mind, heart and emotions and your energy bodies hold the energy and consciousness that will teach you to be fully awake. Meditation steers you away from mind into Mind, the Mind of Higher Consciousness. It takes you into the Sacred Temple of the Heart. In this Heart Mind connection there is peace, healing, abundance, love, kindness, comfort, fulfillment and wholeness.” I ask Mother Mary if meditation is the only way to reach heights in consciousness and she answers, “It depends on what you mean by meditation. Many people today think meditation is simply sitting quiet and struggling to tame the mind. Some people think it is chanting, or awareness when taking a walk. When I speak of meditation in this discussion I am referring to the gentle act of listening. It is fine to use traditions of meditation to still the mind, but at some point you must let the mind be at peace so that you can listen to your inner voice, to your Heart voice. Truly, I am not concerned how you get there as much as that you get there, and that you get there on a regular, daily basis. I wish to add that many of you are being called by your precious souls to meditate. You ask for help, you pray, you struggle. All of your answers are available to you in the

stillness of Heart Mind. So, my Beloveds, I seek you out to offer my blessings, and to ask you to dedicate a few extra moments to enjoy the stillness of Mind and listen to your Heart after your practices. Allow yourself the luxury of meditating yourself into Higher Consciousness!!”
“It is within each of you to carry the Divine Light inside of you” I ask Mother Mary if she has any words for the People of the Temple of Light and she responds with a beautiful laugh that sounds like the angels singing and she says, “The Hierarchies of Light thank you for the Love you have anchored into your earth mother. You now carry this Light onto your next destination to anchor wherever you land. You are now encouraged to
move to spread the Love you have grown into and the Light that you have always been. Listen closely to your hearts as we all move toward the anchoring of a new earth and a new humanity.” I thank Mother Mary for sharing this profound wisdom with us. As she moves away I hear her last words, “Blessed is the stillness where the wisdom of higher consciousness is found. Go sweetly, go often, I will meet you there.”

Energetic Healing A Quicker Way to Heal Past Traumas Is it possible to live a truly fulfilling life, regardless of the pain or trauma we experienced in the past? Many of my patients have come to find that it is possible, and they’re determined to never go back to living with the emotional or psychic burdens they had unknowingly placed upon themselves. Life becomes easier when we remember we’re eternal spiritual beings who have always been and always will be here to experience all the wonders of life on Earth. Everything Source created is made up of energetic vibrations: our thoughts, emotions, memories and bodies are all energy. When we encounter trauma, abuse, rejection, emotional pain, it becomes lodged in our body-mind system as trapped energy. In our American society, many of us were not taught how to process and release this pain. Instead, we got these messages: Just get over it/Deny or minimize it/Blame others/Blame ourselves/Internalize it/Numb it with addictive substances and other “accepted” avoidance methods like prescribed medications/Project our pain at others (through aggressive verbal or physical behaviors). This is far from healthy behavior. Responding to our pain this way simply perpetuates it by creating a vicious cycle where we’re retriggered by the trauma. This pattern will continue until we can identify the root-cause of our symptoms rather than merely addressing them with undesirable coping mechanisms or medications. So let’s say we recognize something’s not working in our life and we know we could benefit from an expert. Why do we still hesitate? The answer is found in human nature — we fear “reliving” or “re-feeling” the original pain. We perceive it as being too much to bear, so we’d rather avoid it. Many people see traditional talk-therapy as not only painful, but also timeconsuming, especially if we’re expected to talk through every detail of the trauma. With energy-based treatments, you can achieve quicker healing without having to relive all the details of your past. And, to many, that’s a huge benefit. For instance, when my clients come in with symptoms like depression, anxiety, anger, fear, frustration or broken relationships, we work together to identify the original incident and strive to energetically heal the childhood wound. The symptoms then fade until the client is healed. There’s 42
