American Cut Modern American Steakhouse

Marc Fargione’s signature rendition of New York Steakhouse, American Cut, arrives to Puerto Rico in all its cosmopolitan culinary brilliance. A testament to timeless glamour, American Cut is a cavernous temple of glass, marble and wood erected for the worship of bold flavors and big living. The appetizers galvanize the taste buds, the cocktails kick like mules and the steaks bleed savagely. The menu is quick and to the point: there’s classic steakhouse appetizers, robust dinner salads, the pork chop, the signature burger and of course the steaks. One size in every cut. The desserts, skyscrapers of Americana. A few exceptions have been made where local chef d’cuisine Carlos Pimental dabs notes of vibrant Caribbean beats into the rhythm of this serene symphony. How you pair it is up to you. Dance with a huge red wine or spar with a soft bright one, turn your senses inwards with a smokey Old Fashioned or go berserk with a Spicy Rasberry Collins. Whatever you choices, it’s your day in paradise and you didn’t come to be timid. The staff is armed with mixologists and sommeliers and an army of cooks who would be chefs at lesser venues, all looking to satisfy your cravings, one way or another. Want all of this on a budget? Come try the three course lunch special and be merry. Private room with executive chairs available for business meetings.

elPlatanal Local Cuisine

The plantain is ever present and at the heart of our cuisine and you won’t find a restaurant that embodies this distinction the way El Platanal does. El Platanal takes our local cuisine’s reverence of the fruit and makes it a religion. Mashed, smashed or shredded, you will find it here from the plantain “baskets” to the plantain sandwiches stuffed with a dozen plus choices of savory seafoods and meats (we are partial to the homemade salami). The tastefully decorated theme setting makes use of bamboo, wood and of course, hanging plantains. Family friendly and with two locations to choose from, come and try the ultimate local experience.

Rosa Mexicano Contemporary Mexican Cuisine

Dazzling vistas, posh ambiance, tangy margaritas and plate licking Mexican food is a pretty solid combination, we think. Rosa Mexicano features award winning dishes that have redefined the concept of elevated Mexican cuisine. Now in 20 cities world wide, no location beats San Juan’s breathtaking lagoon meets ocean view. Rooted in authentic flavors and utilizing socially responsible ingredients, featured menu items like the Pomegranate Margaritas or Guacamole en Molcajete (made in a traditional lava-rock mortar and prepared table side) have become legends in their own right. Rosa Mexicano actually refers to its signature color palette, festive atmospheres using vibrant purples, pinks, reds and oranges in strikingly modern interior designs. Rosa Mexicano’s “locals menu” is a mexirican delight with burritos and tacos stuffed with local meat recipes designed by chef Hedwill Martinez. Valet parking available.

Pirilo Pizza Rustica

Some restaurants were born to be the stuff of legends and Pirilo is undeniably just that. This story begins with its own concocted mythology of a bold little boy that won the heart of his beloved and ends with a boldly flavored pizza that won the hearts of the people. An ode to the Italian immigrants of Latin America, Pirilo uses the spirit of innovation and adaptation to combine Italian, Argentinian and Puerto Rican flavors into its unique pizza and a full menu that serves you sausages, octopus and empanadillas. It is quite possibly the Island’s best pie and worth the trip on that distinction alone, but Pirilo is a moxie boy with big ambitions and has set out to also be one of the most talked about restaurants in town. With a retro decor of mementos and baubles, Pirilo is a faux museum to its own urban legend, using whimsical pop decoration in both of its locations to evoke a timeless feel. With a large artisanal beer menu and a killer house sangria, Pirilo is a guaranteed good time!

Vaca Brava Rancho Jibaro Cuisine

Family owned and oriented, Vaca Brava serves heaping portions of goodness with heartfelt jibaro hospitality. This Puerto Rican favorite lives and breathes the rancho theme adhering to farm-totable values and putting its own tongue in cheek twist on “elevated cuisine” by propping gargantuan portions of savory meats on vertical wiring. The dishes themselves are grandiose odes to local comfort food. Chicken, wrapped in churrasco, wrapped in bacon and smothered in cheddar cheese? Of Course! Try it family style or go for it solo with classic dishes like mofongo or carne frita. Kick back with a refreshing mojito menu with flavors like mango, strawberry and the shockingly good, apple (trust us). Arborio Bori-Italian Cuisine

Few restaurateurs take as much pride in micromanaging the entire guest experience like Arborio’s Chef/owner Víctor Rodríguez. His dedication to creating dishes and selecting wines to pair with them comes from years of running the floor and building a healthy fan club of aficionados who follow his suggestions blindly. The result is a culinary fortress built with Italian mandates, layered with local tastes and polished with the whims of Dorado’s foodie elite. The standing menu provides creative risottos and pastas, many of which are unique house specialties, while the appetizers and main course tend to have more of a Puerto Rican to international flair. but don’t pick until you’ve heard the nights’ specials. A charming long bar greets those just looking for a drink and an artisanal pizza, while the wine list is one of the most carefully selected we have come across.

Meet the Concierges The Pocket Concierge is proud to work alongside the best concierges on the island. These are the men and women who give tourism in Puerto Rico a friendly face. Look them up in your hotel lobby and let them make it happen!

Elliot Cintron

Caribe Hilton Hotel & Casino Group Services, Inc. Tour: Culebra Island Boat Tour Restaurant: Bar Gitano Anecdote: Once, I attended a family that had lost a child and came to Puerto Rico to get away from the stress and sadness they were going through. I booked some tours for them and made restaurant reservations that catered to their needs. They were so happy at by end of their stay that the entire family passed by to thank me for all of the assistance I had provided. It surprised me that something so seemingly insignificant in the big picture had made such a large impact on such a difficult time for this family. The mother was so appreciative of her experience with our service and our Island that she came back the next year; this time with her entire Corporation!

Daniel Herrera

La Concha, A Renaissance Resort. Group Services, Inc. Tour: Catamaran Snorkeling Restaurant: Ropa Vieja’s bacalao guisado (stewed codfish) with breadfruit tostones. Anecdote: Recently a couple celebrating their honeymoon booked three tours with us. They came back from each tour full of joy and happiness and expressed that everything had been perfect. Their best experience was on the Romantic Sunset Sail of Old San Juan where the guest had captured footage of the sunset as he sailed with his wife that evening, it brought tears to his eyes when he spoke of it and I’ll admit it almost brought a tear to mine!

Millie Acevedo

El Conquistador Group Services, Inc. Tour: Rainforest Hiking Excursion Restaurant: La Parilla Restaurant in Luquillo, Red Calamari Rice, the stuffed Red Snapper or the Seafood Mofongo. Anecdote: I have been working with the company GSI for 18 years, during which I have had the joy of meeting a variety of customers and staff with great personalities. Each day is a memorable one for me. I am lucky to be working in this industry where passion meets adventure. Setting customers up for different excursions and activities and then hearing their feedback is my personal satisfaction each and every day. I am consistently committed to making every personal encounter a positive one with good energy, professional knowledge and some good old Puerto Rican hospitality.

Tour: Catamaran Icacos Snorkeling Restaurant: El Condal, Angel hair pasta with patitas de cerdo (off the menu request) Anecdote: During my 21 year career as a Concierge, my proudest moments have been as Concierge Director where I have supervised a knowledgeable group of young individuals that are taking the concierge industry by storm by providing superior services. These concierges ALWAYS have the right attitude and display an authentic love for their craft. Our #1 priority at Group Services Inc., is to offer the riches of our Island of Enchantment to all our guests and leave them thinking, “I’m definitely coming back here...”. With this crew, we are doing exactly that every day.

Roberto Rivera

La Concha Hotel, A Renaissance Resort Group Services, Inc. Tour: Exploration One by Explora, Tobias Culebra Island Snorkeling, Caja de Muerto Island Snorkeling Restaurant: Perla, Roasted Double Lamb chops. Anecdote: Recently, a guest felt like I could take care of pretty much anything and asked me if I could assist him with his bowtie knot for a wedding dinner. I did so without hesitation but I couldn’t understand why he asked me to do this since he clearly had a lot of friends at the hotel attending the wedding. I guess that I love my job so much people feel like I’m their friend instead of a hotel employee. I have had guests that keep in touch with me through social media sites and become a part of my life. It makes me very happy that this kind of bonding can develop in such a short time.

Sheliemar Pacheco

Condado Plaza Hotel & Casino Group Services, Inc. Tour: Icacos Catamaran Snorkeling Restaurant: Oceano. Mofongo filled with skirt steak. Anecdote: A gentleman came in from another hotel asking me for assistance since he wanted to go on a boat tour (anything on a boat) but he was in a wheelchair. I did my research until I found a company that was willing to assist him. The next day he came back with tears of happiness because out of 9 hotel concierges he visited, I was the only one that went above and beyond to make it happen. Meeting and exceeding people needs and expectations is one of my passions and it is very gratifying when someone tells you, “it was all possible because of you. You made this happen.”
