MLS ®/TECHNOLOGY Dailies and TopSheets discontinued Dailies and Topsheets were essentially hot sheets used to conveniently access listing data and sales information. RAHB staff manually prepared them on a daily basis. Dailies and Topsheets were discontinued as of September 25, 2015. Did you know that you can create your own search within Matrix that will allow you to quickly compile that same information? Follow the instructions below to access the same information contained in the Topsheets. In Matrix, click the Search tab > Choose Cross-Property. Remove all selections from the Status field. Choose all options in the Transaction Type field. In the bottom left, click Add next to Additional Fields. From the list of Available Fields, choose Last Change Type and Last Change Timestamp. If you wish to only see listing activity from your Home Board, also select Board ID. Click Add. The fields you have added will appear in the Selected Fields box. You may reorder them by selecting a field and click Move Up or Move Down. Once done, click Back (not your browser’s back button).

In the Last Change Timestamp field type yesterday’s date in mm/dd/yy format. Click the Results tab to see the listings. You may also search for listings that were cancelled and/or suspended, reported sold conditional, and even submitted the previous day. New Broker Load policy in effect The Board of Directors recently approved a change to the policy requiring mandatory training for broker loading. Effective immediately, mandatory training is no longer required before broker load privileges can be extended to members, office administrators and administrative assistants. members in their office, office administrators and administrative assistants to broker load. The form must be completed in full and returned to the MLS® department (attention Pam Morton). The form is available on REALTOR Link® under the Member Services tab. For more information, contact the MLS® department or Corporate Services department.

Distribution of REM magazine As a member service, RAHB distributes the monthly copies of Real Estate Magazine (REM) to all offices – one printed copy per member in the office.
So in the interests of taking the next step in the green evolution, we are happy to comply with requests to reduce the number of printed copies.
Lately we have received a number of calls from offices that would prefer that the quantities of this particular distribution be decreased, or cease altogether.
Any office that would like to adjust the number of copies of REM they received should contact Print Services (sueb@rahb.ca or 905.529.8101 x257) and we will modify your office record accordingly.
We hope that this means that everyone is still reading this publication, but prefers to keep informed on-line.

From the Board table The Board of Directors were back in the board room in September after a busy summer; here’s what happened: Board discussed skills required for the 2016 Board of Directors to help the Nomination Committee recruit candidates for election. The
A
report was received and a recommendation passed making broker load training optional. Training will still be available, but no longer mandatory. The rationale behind this decision was the increased technical competency of our members and the ease of loading in the new Matrix system.
The
Board considered the implementation of IDX, and agreed to move forward with implementation as soon as practicable, following the full roll out of Matrix. The decision to make the IDX opt-out was made to strengthen the quality of the product. Members will have ample opportunity to find out more prior to the service going live.
The Board considered bylaw changes that would impact the composition of the Board of Directors. The recommendations were referred back to the Governance Committee for more research.
The volunteers were selected for the Honorary Life Task Force.
Have they been knocking on your door? Federal candidates, that is. If you have the opportunity to meet with any of the candidates over the next few weeks, consider asking them some of these questions. Responses can be submitted to Megan at meganp@rahb.ca or through the REALTOR Action Network, www.realtoractionnetwork.ca.
Sample Questions 1.
A strong, stable housing market is important for Canada’s economy. To that end, how can the federal government continue to support Canadian home- ownership, especially for first time buyers, a significant percentage of whom borrow from their parents to buy a home?
2. Have you heard of the Home Buyers’ Plan? Have you or someone you know used the Home Buyers’ Plan? 3. REALTORS® are urging the government to index the Home Buyers’ Plan so it keeps pace with inflation. If you’re elected, will you lend your support? 4.
How will your government support small-business people, like REALTORS®, to ensure their businesses thrive? How do you feel about lowering tax rate for small businesses?
5.
Canada’s infrastructure is important – it is the backbone of the communities in which we live and work. If you are elected, what does your party propose to do to ensure our infrastructure meets our needs today and the needs of our kids in the future?
6.
What are your thoughts on urban development, and how will your government support cities’ growth? What is your party’s position on increasing the availability of environmentally friendly transportation alternatives (such as High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, public transit, cycling infrastructure)?
7. What are your thoughts on public transit, and how will your government help cities move people more efficiently?

CREA/CHMC NEWS CREA eases rules for using REALTOR® certification mark The CREA Board of Directors approved a series of changes to the rules governing the use of the REALTOR® trademarks at its meeting on August 25, 2015. The purpose of this initiative is to make the use of the marks easier, with a view to increasing proper use and reducing improper use. The changes to CREA’s Rules and Policies will make the use of the REALTOR® trademark simpler and easier to understand. The changes are also intended to reflect the reality of how CREA’s trademarks are used on the Internet. To summarize: 1. CREA’s previous rules required REALTOR® to be in all capital letters, followed by the ® registration mark. The new policy only requires that form for the first use in any publication. In all subsequent uses, the word can be spelled with only the ‘R’ capitalized, (i.e. Realtor) and omitting the ®. 2. Up until this point, members have been required to add the trademark statement “The trademarks REALTOR®, REALTORS®, and the REALTOR® logo are controlled by The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) and identify real estate professionals who are members of CREA”. The new policy allows members to choose one of five acceptable trademark ownership statements: a. Not every real estate agent is a REALTOR®. Only REALTORS® are members of CREA. b. I’m more than a real estate agent. I’m a REALTOR®. c. What’s the difference between a real estate agent and a REALTOR®? Visit www.crea.ca/why to find out. d. REALTOR®. Member of The Canadian Real Estate Association and more. e. The trademarks REALTOR®, REALTORS®, And the REALTOR® logo are controlled by The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) and identify real estate professionals who are members of CREA. 3. CREA’s previous rules prohibited the use of modifiers with the REALTOR® term. The new policy allows it, provided that REALTOR® appears in all capital letters (e.g., Professional REALTOR®, Toronto REALTOR®). 4. CREA’s previous rules prohibited REALTOR® or REALTORS® being used as part of a firm name (e.g., Smith REALTORS®). The new policy allows that use, provided the following three conditions are met. a. The proposed name is approved by CREA; b. The member enters into a license agreement with CREA before using the name; c. REALTOR® must appear in all capital letters whenever it is used in the name. 5. CREA’s previous rules were silent on the use of REALTOR® or REALTORS® in a team name

(e.g., REALTOR® Team Smith Jones). The new policy permits such use, subject to the same three conditions set out above. 6. CREA’s previous rules prohibited the use of REALTOR® or REALTORS® in corporate branding. The new policy permits such use (e.g., use of REALTOR® in slogans), but the prohibition on use of REALTOR® and REALTORS® in product names will remain. 7. CREA’s previous rules prohibited use of our marks in metatags. The new policy permits such use for both REALTOR® and MLS®. 8. CREA’s previous policy provided that members may only use REALTOR® or REALTORS® in a domain name in association with their name or firm name. The new policy allows members to add modifiers to REALTOR® in domain names, email addresses, and social media usernames that contain their name, firm name, or team name (e.g. JohnJonesTorontoRealtor.com, JanetheProfessionalRealtor.ca, SmithTeamRealtors @gmail.com, @BigBobRealtor). In order to implement the new usage requirements, CREA has re-written its Trademark Policy. A copy of that policy is found in the Resources and Compliance section on CREA’s REALTOR Link® page. The changes to the Trademark Policy became effective immediately upon approval by the Board of Directors in August. They are therefore in force now.

Liberals promise modernization of Home Buyers Plan The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) reports that Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada Justin Trudeau has pledge to modernize the Home Buyer’s Plan (HBP) if elected, by enabling Canadians impacted by significant life changes to access the program and use money from their Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSPs) to buy a house without tax penalty.
to help make home ownership more affordable. The program allows Canadians to borrow, on a repayable basis, from their own RRSPs to purchase a home.
The HBP is a REALTOR®-driven initiative, introduced by the government as a short-term stimulus measure in 1992 and made a permanent program in 1994. Since its inception, over 2.8 million Canadian have used the HBP
