KICK OFF Since the Heart of America Athletic Conference began showcasing a weekly match up on ESPN3 and regionally, the Benedictine College football team has played in seven Heart Game of the Week broadcasts. Benedictine is 7-0 in those games and is making their second appearance in the GoTW against Grand View University today. Benedictine enters play at 5-0 as the No. 2 team in the NAIA and is coming off a 27-7 win over Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., last week. Grand View is also 5-0 on the year and is coming off a 32-28 win over then-ranked No. 12 Evangel University last week in Des Moines. Today marks the annual Stars & Stripes Celebration while will also welcome back alumni from the 1990s as we continue to celebrate 50 years of football at Benedictine. SERIES HISTORY Today’s meeting between the Ravens and the Vikings is just the fifth-ever match up between the two schools. The series is tied at 2-2 with both teams winning at home and on the road over the four-game series. Benedictine traveled to Des Moines last season and beat Grand View 25-13 in a match up of top 10-ranked opponents as the Ravens entered at No. 7 while the Vikings sat at No. 5. Benedictine scored on a fumble return and a 17yard pass in the fourth quarter to turn a tie game into a 12-point win. The last time the two teams met in Atchison, the Ravens earned a 30-27 win over the Vikings. Benedictine used a 13-point fourth quarter to distance themselves from Grand View after the Vikings scored 21 unanswered in the second and third quarters.

In their previous GoTW appearances, they have scored a total of 311 points for an average of 44.4 points per game. They have scored over 40 points five times during the GoTW. Charles Nihart has quietly put together a headlining season at running back for the Ravens. With 673 yards rushing through five games, Marquis Stewart continues to climb the all-time rushing list at Benedictine. His 3,084 career rushing yards place him at sixth. He needs 153 yards to pass Cameron Fore (11-13, 3,236) for fifth all-time. While the series history between Benedictine and Grand View only dates back to 2015, that 2015 meeting has historical significance. The Vikings earned a 10-0 win over the Ravens snapping a 387-game streak in which Benedictine went without being shutout. Grand View has limited Marquis

Stewart to a total of 104 yards rushing off 24 carries combined in meetings in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, the Ravens were held to just 128 rushing yards. In 2018, the Ravens were limited to just 103 rushing yards. In their previous four meetings, Grand View has finished with more yards on offense in three of the four games. The biggest difference in total yards came in 2016 when Grand View outgained Benedictine 476-168. The Ravens earned a 7-3 win in that meeting.

Today’s game features the top two offenses in #HeartFB. Benedictine leads the Heart at 506.4 yards per game while Grand View is second at 449.4 yards per game. The two teams are also first and second in #HeartFB in scoring defense. Benedictine ranks first, allowing just 11.2 points per game while Grand View ranks second, allowing just 11.6 per game. Grand View leads #HeartFB in total defense per game, holding opponents to 212.8 per game while Benedictine ranks second at 237.0 per game.
