The highlight of a trip to the Historic Sahuaro Ranch should include a FREE tour of the historic Main House, built in 1891. The house is furnished with some original furniture used by the Smith Family who moved into the house in 1927. Also included are 1930s furnishings and decorations. AARP FOUNDATION Tax-Aide Program

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 5, the AARP Foundation will again be providing free tax assistance at the Glendale Adult Center. Taxes will be completed on a first-come, firstserved basis on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The center opens at 8 a.m.

It's Back! The Foothill 360 Summer Camp

Daddy Daughter Dance

The popular event will be back this year, with some new elements you won’t want to miss! You’ll want to put on your dancing shoes and your daughter will be excited to get all dressed up and dance the night away. The event is open to girls ages 3-12, and their dads, or other significant adult. Look for more information coming soon!

Give your kids, ages 6-11, a memorable summer at this popular, supervised summer program, where staff provides fun, age-appropriate programming in a variety of spaces within the facility. All Foothills 360 sessions are dropin programs, and participants may come and go at their own will. Kids will enjoy swimming at least once a week, the rock wall, gymnasium games, arts and crafts, guest speakers and active games. This Monday-Friday program fills quickly! Space is limited and available on a first -registered, first-served basis. Registration begins April 1, and you may register for one week or multiple weeks, as long as there is space available. Each child will need to bring a daily, non-perishable lunch and snacks, but lunch and snacks can also be purchased at the onsite café. Weekly enrollment fees: $110/week (non-residents $145). NO PRE-REGISTRATION FEES. ALL REFUND OR CANCELLATION REQUESTS must be made by Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. of the week before your scheduled attendance, to allow for those on the wait list to register. Wanted Party Bridge Players Come play Bridge at the Adult Center! If you have any experience playing Bridge, the current group would welcome you with open arms. The group meets on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12:30 p.m.. Meet new folks, enjoy the camaraderie and keep your brain active. Party Bridge is a fun, challenging card game. Anyone 18 or older is welcome to participate. The Adult Center is a Silver Sneakers approved facility.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM The city of Glendale is currently seeking volunteers for these upcoming service projects: Martin Luther King, Jr Day of Service Jan. 19, 9 a.m. – noon, Historic Sahuaro Ranch Throughout his life, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. advocated peace, unity and service and was committed to creating change in his community. In partnership with HandsOn Greater Phoenix, over 150 volunteers will be creating change in our community by volunteering at this event. Volunteers are needed to pick citrus at Sahuaro Ranch Park Historic Area for use in food boxes by the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. This vitamin-rich resource will be distributed to families in need. Teams represented by a manager or team player during the entire meeting will receive $50 off league registration fee. Meeting topic will include league format, rule changes and how to sign up.

Teams willl play weekly for a total of 8 regular season games, round robin format with a single elimination tournament.

GAME TIMES: 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 ENTRY FEE: When registering, teams must pay $420.00 per

team, unless proof of residency is met at this time. Payment must be cash, cashiers check, business check, money order or credit card. No personal checks will be accepted. Teams will be refunded $70.00 if the Glendale minimum residency requirement is met upon deadline of registration. If proof of residency is shown at time of registration, team will pay only the resident fee. Division Determination Each child's division will be determined by their age as of March 2, 2019. Boys, girls, and coed basketball will be offered to participants ages 5-7 years of age for the Pee Wee Coed division; boys ages 8-10 in the Mini Mites division; and 8-10 year old girls for the Rookie division. *The girls & boys divisions may be combined to form coed divisions, if not enough participants sign up to form four teams in each individual division.

(15+) Are you a strong swimmer? We’ve got a job for you! Lifeguarding is a leadership position that will provide you skills to handle emergencies in, on and around the water. If you are at least 15 years of age or older, a good swimmer, and want to learn lifesaving skills you can be on your way to becoming a lifeguard! Important: Participants must be strong swimmers (Level 4 swimming skills or equivalent). The pretest will consist of swimming 300 yards continuously, (100 freestyle, 100 breast stroke and 100 choice freestyle/breaststroke); must also swim 20 yards from wall, retrieve a 10-pound brick in seven foot depth, swim with brick 20 yards on back to side of pool within 1:40; and finally, must tread for 2:00 using legs only. Water Safety Instructor Course 5:30-6 p.m. $200 R /$250 NR (April 1-17 - M, W, F)

This course will prepare you for a leadership position, teaching skills to handle emergencies in, on and around the water. If you are at least 16 years of age or older, a good swimmer, and want to teach lifesaving skills - you can be on your way to becoming a water safety instructor! Train to be a swim lesson instructor so that you can help change lives for the better. Important: Participants must be strong swimmers (Level 4 swimming skills or equivalent), with basic knowledge of, and ability to correctly demonstrate swimming freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke and side stroke. Participants who do not pass the pretest on the first day are eligible for a partial refund (see below.) All books are included. There will be a pretest on the first day of class, consisting of swimming the following continuously: 100 freestyle; 50 breaststroke; 50 backstroke; and 25 butterfly. (Ages 5-8) An introduction to ballet, tap, creative movement and tumbling skills. The focus is on having fun and giving your child a positive introduction to dance. No experience is necessary. Black tap shoes required and pink leather ballet shoes recommended. Students can wear any type of comfortable clothing. Students will start the class in their tap shoes.
