Once again, the music plays and we can gather. Please join Arizona Philharmonic in our first full concert performance since the pandemic, Love: Sorrow: Joy, on May 2 at Yavapai College Performing Arts Center at 3:00 pm. This gorgeous music will elevate the senses!!

Bach, Vivaldi, Vaughan Williams, and Pärt... The word Baroque means the juxtaposition of elements; the tension of two emotions. This synthesis of emotions was a hallmark of composers of the 17th and 18th-centuries. Composers of the 20th-century also found inspiration in the joining of two disparate parts to create unique worlds of sound. Join musicians from Arizona Philharmonic, guest conductor Joshua Harper, and the debut performance of the professional chorale group Quartz Ensemble as we explore the balance of old and new, choir and orchestra. • • • • •

J.S. Bach ■ Contata Weinen, Klagan, Sorgen, Zagen (1714) Arvo Pärt ■ Da pacem Domine (2004) J.C. Bach ■ Symphony, Op.6, no.6, G minor (~1770) Vivaldi ■ Magni cat in G Minor (~1703) Ralph Vaughan Williams ■ Five Mystical Songs (1911)

Guest Conductor, Joshua Harper. Dr. Joshua Harper is a composer, conductor and tenor passionate for the choral arts and new music based in Prescott. He is the Director of the Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Choral Music at Yavapai College.

Kindness Caravan Drives Community Connection to Prescott By Diane Meehl, Public Relations Program Manager, Desert Financial Credit Union

A

fter a year of relative isolation, nothing feels better than an unexpected gesture of kindness. As vaccinations for COVID-19 are rolled out, pandemic fatigue has set in, even when a return to bigger gatherings is in sight. Physical distancing only amped up the craving for community connection. It’s why Desert Financial and the Fiesta Bowl organization teamed up to take Kindness Arizona on the road with a stop in Prescott March 24. The two organizations took the spirit of community goodwill across the state to deliver random acts of kindness. Between March 22 and March 26, the caravan rolled through Metro Phoenix, Prescott, Flagstaff and Tucson, lending support for education, youth and front-line workers — some of those impacted most by the pandemic. During the stop to friendly Prescott, the caravan gave: • • • •

$5,000 donation to the Yavapai College Foundation Hygiene kits to St. Vincent de Paul Cash gifts to servers at Raven Café An upgraded teacher’s lounge at Taylor Hicks Elementary “Nothing feels better than giving back,” said Scott Kirschman, Vice President of Retail Delivery. “As a Yavapai County native, Prescott holds special meaning for me, and it was fun to see the smiles and cheers of people deserving of so much more.” Desert Financial plans to open two branches to serve Prescott in the coming year as part of a statewide expansion, and Kirschman will oversee the project and launch. The credit union was founded more than 80 years ago by 15 educators and has long supported education as a tribute to their legacy. Residents across the state can do business online with Desert Financial, and branches will open in Prescott in late 2021. Learn more at: www.desertfinancial.com/Prescott

Youth Services Welcomes Back Library Families!

W

hat are you reading? Do you have the next “I Survived” book? Can I pick up my book club book? Can you help me find books about bobcats for my class? What picture books can you recommend for my 4-year-old granddaughter who is visiting? We missed such questions during the pandemic when the library was closed. We value the relationships we have with community members — our library family. Yet even when our doors were closed to the public we stayed busy! “We all worked incredibly hard to stay connected to our community of readers. My favorite library service during the pandemic closures was creating books-to-go bags for readers and their families. I relished every chance to help put together a personalized books-to-go bag, tailored to the reader’s interests,” says Youth Librarian Amy Schwall. Virtual programs emerged such as online storytimes, virtual summer reading book clubs, online book trivia activities, holiday curbside deliveries with Santa, the ever popular Crafts-to-Go, and the launch of the StoryWalk at Granite Creek Park.

Says Mr. Steve: “Helping fellow bibliophiles during the pandemic has affirmed my realization that we are providing an essential service. I have been humbled by expressions of heartfelt gratitude after working remotely to help identify and procure children’s ‘daily bread,’ which is how one mom characterized her family’s reading materials.” To all our library patrons we say, “Welcome Back!” We look forward to bonding over favorite characters or grumbling about the wait for an author’s next book in a series. We can’t wait to hear what you’ve all been reading for the past year

Jennifer Kendall, Lead Librarian, Youth Services.

Upcoming Youth Events April 1 — Granite Creek StoryWalk features a brand-new story! Spend a little time in the park with your family and the new StoryWalk book, The Giant Jumperee.

with a bag of Easter eggs (loaded with fun surprises!) for your home Easter egg hunt! Easter egg goody bags available at the Youth Desk while supplies last. For kids, ages 0-5. 2021 Prescott Bridal Affaire Expo - a Great Success! by Tahna Falk, Owner of StarStruck Event Planning and Prescott Bridal Affaire Expo

W

e weren’t sure what to expect this year with COVID, but the 2021 Prescott Bridal Affaire Expo was very well attended. We had just over 60 exhibitors showcasing services and products, about 140 registered engaged couples, and we estimated about 500 people came through in total. We gave away prizes galore! Natosha Bishop and Shane Smiley won our grand prize, worth more than $6,800; a mini grand prize worth over $1,400 went to Laura Mullans and Josh Holt. Raffle prizes were given away every half hour.

Our engaged couples said:

Some feedback from our exhibitors:

• Gold sponsor: Strada Salon. • Silver sponsors: Finest Wedding

• “The 2021 Bridal Affaire Expo was

amazing! We had a great time, met with a lot of brides and made good connections with other industry vendors. I was super impressed by Tahna and the StarStruck team. They worked really hard to make the expo a success. They were very organized, and they even took time to speak with each exhibitor personally to see how their day was going. If they are this good at planning and executing on a large wedding expo, imagine what they can do with your big day! We are already looking forward to doing this again next year.” • “The event was outstanding and well organized.” • “There was a steady stream of attendees all day long.” • “We were proud to be a part of this event again this year.” • “This event was well marketed and executed on.” Visit Us Online at Prescott-NOW.com

• “We enjoyed our afternoon and seeing our town unify again.”

• “The expo was very helpful in an-

swering a lot of my wedding planning questions.” • “It was beyond my expectations.” • “It was so much fun.”

A heartfelt “thank you” goes out to: • Co-hosts: Historic Hassayampa Inn and Verve Events & Tents.

• Diamond sponsor: Findlay Prescott Subaru.

Sites and Services, The Daily Courier, Prescott Woman Magazine, Lonesome Valley Newspaper, Magic 99.1, Blushing Cactus Photography, Sky City Audio, SignalsAZ and Motion Candy Media. • Exhibitors: Those who participated this year and those who generously donated toward our prize giveaways. • StarStruck and Hassayampa teams: You are a huge part of why this event runs so smoothly. And, to all the engaged couples and other attendees — we hope you had as much fun as we did! We are already excited about the 2022 Prescott Bridal Affaire Expo. Save the date for Sunday, March 6, 2022.
