Form Khonwan

Thailand is one of the countries that has buddhism as the main religion. Surely, the religious places like ‘temple’ are around in every community in Thailand. Temples are divided into different levels — royal temple to locally ones in each district. The thing I’m interested about temples is different and unique kinds of temples that reflect Thai cultures and lives around each community very well. You will have a kind of image of temples when you stay in the capital city; selected and inherited identity is shown via details, meticulousness, and symmetry that are already specified the direction. Surely, we cannot answer what is the real being Thai, because it has been with Thai people since Sukhothai and Ayutthaya era. So, the design of each temple is similar to those in capital city, but also different as well.

When I went out to take pictures of architectures within the temples in capital city, I realize of the high, strict standard and pattern. Everything is perfect in themselves. But it is easily noticeable if something gone wrong. On the other hand, if I step out to see architectures within the temples in other cities, I found unforeseen difference and details of each place. Although I didn’t feel the perfection from looking at them, but I feel lively and powerful from them instead. You will be able to see vivid color and different concept of architectures that are different from capital city’s temples. When asking for reasons of why people do something difference, they answer in the same way as for difference, or for responding need to create own identity. Or we can mention that this is similar to fashion nowadays — everything changes when time does, and a popular thing in present may be replaced with something more exciting and popular.

I chose to take pictures of architectures in temples in Nakhon Sawan, my hometown city. I got the chance to travel and keep the memory, and to know and see the different community in each place. Some temples might bring prosperity to the community, and some community might use faith to build strong temples.There are still many temples, remaining traditional detailed architecture, in Nakhon Sawan. Some of which attract people by using colorful colors; fuschia pink or lime green, to create outstanding and new identity that is different from others in people’s thoughts. Time flies, and I found many temples that use colorful color in a softer shade — pastel color — which is combined with white to get a softer shade, giving more comfortable feeling to eyes.

Everything changes when time changes, and although faith in religious is still strong, resulting in architectures in temples around the country, but time will choose and select the new interesting things for people, as always. Even though the story I saw and tell is through pictures only in Nakhon Sawan, but I think it is a part of things that reflects the change in culture very well.

ประเทศไทยเป็นหนึ่งในประเทศที่ศาสนาพุทธเป็นศาสนาประจ�ำชาติ และแน่นอนว่าศาสนสถานอย่าง “วัด” ได้มีการกระจายอยู่ทั่วทุกชุมชน ในประเทศไทย วัดยังคงแยกออกเป็นวัดในระดับต่างๆ ตั้งแต่พระอารามหลวงไปจนถึงวัดประจ�ำต�ำบล สิ่งที่ท�ำให้ฉันสนใจเกี่ยวกับวัดคือ สถาปัตยกรรมที่แตกต่างและมีเอกลักษณ์อันสะท้อนทั้งความเป็นไทยและวิถีชีวิตของชุมชนโดยรอบได้เป็นอย่างดี เมื่อคุณอยู่ในเมืองหลวง คุณจะมีภาพของวัดในรูปแบบหนึ่ง เอกลักษณ์ที่ถูกคัดเลือกและสืบทอดต่อกันมาได้แสดงออกผ่านความประณีต ความสมมาตร อัตราส่วน และทุกอย่างล้วนมีแบบแผนตามที่ถูกก�ำหนดว่าควรจะเป็นในทิศทางไหน แน่นอนว่าเราไม่สามารถตอบได้ว่าอะไรคือความเป็นไทย เพราะ ความเป็นไทยที่ถ่ายทอดผ่านสถาปัตยกรรมแบบวัดได้อยู่มายาวนานกว่าเพียงยุคสมัยนี้ แต่ไกลไปจนถึงอยุธยาหรือสุโขทัย ดังนั้นภาพของวัด ในต่างจังหวัดเองย่อมมีความใกล้เคียงกับเมืองหลวง แต่ย่อมมีความแตกต่างด้วยเช่นกัน

เมื่อฉันออกไปถ่ายภาพสถาปัตยกรรมของวัดภายในเมืองหลวง ฉันรับรู้ได้ถึงมาตรฐานที่สูง ความเคร่งครัด และแบบแผน ทุกอย่างดูสมบูรณ์ แบบในตัวเอง แต่หากมันเบี้ยวหรือผิดไปเพียงเล็กน้อยคุณจะสามารถรู้สึกได้ทันที แต่เมื่อก้าวออกไปมองดูสถาปัตยกรรมของวัดในต่างจังหวัด ฉันได้เห็นถึงความแตกต่างที่ไม่สามารถคาดเดาได้เลยว่าจะได้เห็นสถาปัยกรรมแบบใด ความละเอียดในงานขนาดไหน หรือสีสันอะไรที่จะถูก เลือกใช้กับวัดแห่งนั้นๆ ถึงฉันจะไม่ได้รู้สึกถึงความสมบูรณ์แบบจากสถาปัตยกรรม แต่ฉันรู้สึกถึงความมีชีวิตชีวาและพลังงานมากมายแทน คุณจะได้เห็นสีสันฉูดฉาดและแนวความคิดต่อสถาปัตยกรรมวัดอันแตกต่างจากเมืองหลวง เมื่อถามถึงเหตุผลที่ผู้คนเลือกจะท�ำในสิ่งที่แตกต่าง ออกไปจากรูปแบบที่ถูกก�ำหนดไว้แล้ว ค�ำตอบจะอยู่ประมาณว่า เพื่อความแตกต่าง หรือเพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการที่จะสร้างเอกลักษณ์ ของตนเองขึ้นมา คล้ายกับแฟชั่นที่มีการหมุนเวียนเปลี่ยนไปตามเวลา สิ่งหนึ่งที่ได้รับความนิยมในยุคสมัยหนึ่ง เมื่อเวลาผ่านไปจะถูกทดแทน ด้วยแนวความคิดที่แปลกใหม่และตื่นเต้นตื่นกว่า

ฉันได้ออกไปถ่ายภาพสถาปัตยกรรมของวัดเหล่านี้ในจังหวัดนครสวรรค์อันเป็นจังหวัดบ้านเกิดของฉัน ได้เดินทางและเก็บภาพ ได้รับรู้และ มองเห็นถึงชุมชนที่แตกต่างกันไปในแต่ละสถานที่ วัดบางแห่งสามารถสร้างความเจริญสู่ชุมชน ชุมชนบางแห่งใช้ความศรัทธาสร้างวัดที่แข็ง แกร่ง ในนครสวรรค์มีวัดมากมายที่ยังคงไว้ซึ่งสถาปัตยกรรมตามธรรมเนียมอันวิจิตรและประณีตซึ่งถูกสืบทอดต่อกันมา ในขณะที่บางวัดดึงดู ดด้วยการเลือกใช้สีสันสดใส อย่างสีชมพูบานเย็นหรือสีเขียวมะนาว เพื่อแสดงให้ความแปลกใหม่และโดดเด่นที่ไม่เหมือนกับวัดข้างเคียงหรือ วัดในภาพจ�ำของคนส่วนใหญ่ เมื่อยุคสมัยเปลี่ยนไปฉันเองก็ได้พบกับวัดอีกหลายแห่งที่เลือกจะใช้สีสันสดใสในแบบที่อ่อนลงมา หรือสีโทน พาสเทล ซึ่งเป็นสีที่ถูกผสมด้วยสีขาวลงไปจนอ่อนลง ให้ความรู้สึกที่สบายตามากขึ้น

ทุกอย่างล้วนเปลี่ยนไปเมื่อมีเวลาเข้ามาเป็นส่วนหนึ่ง ถึงแม้ว่าความศรัทธาของศาสนาพุทธทั่วประเทศไทยยังคงแข็งแกร่ง ท�ำให้เกิด สถาปัตยกรรมของวัดมากมายทั่วประเทศ แต่เวลาได้เลือกและคัดสรรสิ่งใหม่ๆ ให้มาปรากฎต่อสายตาผู้คนเสมอ แม้ว่าสิ่งที่ฉันได้ออกไปพบ เจอและบันทึกออกมาผ่านภาพถ่ายนั้นเป็นเพียงภายในจังหวัดนครสวรรค์ แต่ฉันคิดว่ามันเป็นส่วนหนึ่งที่สามารถสะท้อนความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่ เกิดขึ้นได้เป็นอย่างดี
