War of Ramayana

“Everyone has their own detestable things, but when those things are together with things we love: it turns to something precious and easier to understand than usual.” This sentence was the beginning of this success. I don’t like to look up for English words and their meanings, but I began to look up to understand the context when playing games, as same as the purpose of this project. Everyone’s high school life might has been experience and learnt the literature ‘Ramakien’, a long literature with plenty of alphabets and difficult words which made us bewildered. This inspired me to bring the knowledge and interesting things from it into that form that is easy to remember.

This project was inspired from watching movies and assembling plastic model, resulting in adapting the owner’s like — the story of Thai literature ‘Ramakien’, which is a memorable fighting event — to present and adapt into plastic model as showing that toys can be used as artwork as well. The origin of Ramakien is from Ramayana, a literature that is widely spread in South Asia until it is spread in Southeast Asia due to the Indian civilization. It became the well-known literature, and adapted its content to correspond with the culture of various countries, becoming national literature in many countries; Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The entire Ramakien story in Thailand is taken from the poetry of King Buddha Yodfa, Chulalongkorn, the reign of King Rama 1. The Ramakien begins with the battle between Phra Ram and Thotsakan, who fought for Sita, until it becomes a clan war. Rhonnabhack, Thotsakan’s son, went to practice with hermit until receiving a magic blessing and weapon. He became arrogant and went to invade heaven to challenge ‘Indra’ to fight and win. Then, Thotsakan changes Rhonnabhack’s name to ‘Indrajit’, meaning a man who win Indra. Time passed, the war gets more intense. Many giants that fought in the war reached the death, therefore, when the situation is getting worse, Thotsakan ask ‘Maiyarap’ for help. Resulting in Maiyarap plans to kidnap Phra Ram from the army by using the magic to cast everyone in subconsciousness. Then, ’Hanuman’ volunteers to help Phra Ram in the underground region.

“เราไม่ชอบอะไรบางอย่าง แต่พอสิ่งนั้นรวมอยู่กับสิ่งที่เราชอบ เรากลับชอบและเข้าใจมันได้ง่ายกว่าปกติ” ประโยคนี้เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของผลงานชิ้นนี้ ผมเองเป็นคนที่ไม่ชอบเปิดค้นหาค�ำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษ แต่ผมกลับชอบการเปิดค้นหาและแปลความหมาย เพื่อที่จะท�ำความเข้าใจมันในเวลาที่ผมเล่น เกม วัตถุประสงค์ของการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานชิ้นนี้ก็เช่นกัน ในวัยมัธยม ผมเชื่อว่าทุกคนอาจเคยได้เรียนวรรณคดีเรื่อง “รามเกียรติ์” ซึ่งมีรูปแบบตัว หนังสือเยอะแยะจนตาลาย ผมจึงอยากน�ำความรู้และความน่าสนใจของวรรณคดีไทยเรื่องนี้มาอยู่ในรูปแบบที่ตัวผมเองจดจ�ำได้ง่าย

ผลงานชิ้นนี้ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากการดูภาพยนตร์และการประกอบโมเดลพลาสติกเกี่ยวกับหุ่นยนต์จึงเลือกน�ำสิ่งที่ชอบมาใช้ประกอบการสร้างสรรค์ ผลงาน โดยใช้เรื่องราวของวรรณคดีไทยเรื่อง รามเกียรติ์ ซึ่งเป็นเหตุการณ์การต่อสู้ที่น่าจดจ�ำมาน�ำเสนอและประยุกต์ใช้กับโมเดลพลาสติกเพื่อสื่อว่าของ เล่นนั้นสามารถน�ำมาเป็นงานศิลปะได้ ต้นก�ำเนิดรามเกียรติ์มาจากรามายณะ ซึ่งเป็นวรรณคดีที่แพร่หลายทั่วไปในภูมิภาคเอเชียใต้ ต่อมาอารยธรรม อินเดียได้แพร่สู่ภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ รามายณะก็เช่นกัน มันกลายเป็นวรรณคดีที่เป็นที่รู้จักและได้ปรับเปลี่ยนเนื้อหาให้สอดคล้องกับ วัฒนธรรมของแต่ละประเทศจนกลับกลายเป็นวรรณคดีประจ�ำหลายประเทศ ทั้งไทย ลาว พม่า กัมพูชา มาเลเซียและอินโดนีเซีย

เนื้อเรื่องของรามเกียรติ์ของไทยทั้งหมดถูกน�ำมาจากบทประพันธ์ของพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช รัชกาลที่ 1 เรื่องราวเริ่มต้นขึ้น จากการต่อสู้ของพระรามและทศกัณฐ์ผู้ท�ำศึกชิงนางสีดาจนกลายเป็นสงครามระหว่างเผ่าพันธุ์ ทศกัณฐ์ให้ก�ำเนิดบุตรนามว่า “รณพักตร์” และได้ให้ไป ฝึกวิชากับฤาษีจนได้รับพรและอาวุธวิเศษ จึงเกิดความฮึกเหิมและไปบุกสวรรค์เพื่อท้าพระอินทร์รบจนชนะ เมื่อทศกัณฐ์ทราบข่าวบุตรของตนมีชัยชนะ จึงเปลี่ยนชื่อรณพักตร์เป็น “อินทรชิต ซึ่งหมายถึง ผู้ชนะพระอินทร์ เวลาผ่านไป สงครามยิ่งดุเดือดมากขึ้น เหล่ายักษ์ญาติพี่น้องของทศกัณฐ์ที่ท�ำศึก สงครามกับพระรามก็ล้มตายกันเป็นจ�ำนวนมาก เมื่อเห็นว่าสถานการณ์ตอนนี้ก�ำลังย�่ำแย่จึงไปขอความช่วยเหลือจากไมยราพ พญายักษ์เจ้าแห่งเมือง บาดาล ซึ่งได้มีการวางแผนการลักพาตัวพระรามออกจากกองทัพโดยใช้เวทมนตร์สะกดให้ทุกคนในกองทัพหลับใหล หลังจากนั้นหนุมานจึงขออาสาตาม ไปช่วยพระรามที่เมืองบาดาล
