Orphan

Starting from myself that became a parent while studying, I thought and wondered that my child hasn’t born in a right place and time. But if compared to some other children, I think my child was luckier than them, such as an orphan. I always had a thought that orphan does need facility and convenience since they weren’t born in a proper and ready condition because of the money, so we can overlook it. Therefore, I would like to show orphans’ living through a series of pictures as to change people’s thoughts about orphans and being a part to help them. When time passed, I found out that these orphans are provided with everything they need; education, convenience, and that’s different from what I thought.

Wat Don Chan Orphanage House was founded by Pramote Prachanukul, an abbot at Wat Don Chan, who started the quality of life development program in 1985, and still remaining in the present. He is responsibility for every expenses going on with more than 700 children in his place. The children in this place mostly are the orphans, the poor, disadvantage kids, and the ethnic children. The dharma used to manage and teach these children are ‘percepts, meditation, wisdom’. Besides abbot Pramote, Jomsak Prasarnkraitong, or teacher Kae, one of the place workers who believe in the concept of this place, is volunteering himself to work here as well. He takes a role of taking care children as he is one of a parent. Most importantly, there isn’t any beating here, since teachers emphasize on using the approach to reach children’s heart and soul instead of using violence to control them. Besides being orphanage house in the Northern part of Thailand, Wat Don Chan is available as the education place from preschool, elementary school, secondary school, and the university. It always adapts the approach of dharma and meditation as parts of daily routine for every student.

After graduating from Wat Don Chan learning center, or school, students are able to apply to Chiang Mai Polytechnic College (Huay Kaew) and Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Chiang Mai campus. Hence, this place is well provided with everything children need, and outstanding with other parts as well; especially sports. Wat Don Chan school is full of track athletes who has won many competition around the community. I would like to keep their memories by taking pictures, and I felt like they were smiling for me while I pressed the shutter button on my camera. This series wants you to see the children’s living and being in different perspective, along with the happiness they receive while being here.

เริ่มต้นมาจากตัวผมเองได้มีลูกชายในระหว่างเรียน จึงท�ำให้ผมเกิดความคิดและความสงสัยว่าลูกตัวเองที่เกิดออกมาในที่ที่ยังไม่พร้อมรึเปล่า เเต่ถ้าเทียบกับเด็กอีกหลายๆ คนที่เกิดมาผมมองว่าลูกของผมโชคดีกว่าเด็กหลายคนที่เกิดมา อย่างเช่นเด็กในบ้านเด็กก�ำพร้า ผมจึงมีความคิดที่จะถ่ายทอดชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของเด็กๆ ด้อยโอกาสออกมา เป็นภาพชุด และผมคิดว่าเด็กด้อยโอกาสเหล่านี้เขาต้องการสิ่งอ�ำนวยความสะดวกเพราะว่าเขาไม่ได้เกิดมาในสภาพแวดล้อมที่พร้อมซึ่งเราหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้เลย ปัจจัยที่เรา มองข้ามไม่ได้คือเงินผมจึงอยากจะใช้ภาพถ่ายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการช่วยเด็กกลุ่มเหล่านี้มันคือเหตุผลที่ท�ำให้ผมเข้าไปในสถานที่เเห่งนี้เมื่อเวลาผ่านไปเหมือนผมเจอเนื้อหา ระหว่างการท�ำงานผมเข้าไปคลุกคลีกับเด็กที่นั่นมากขึ้นมันท�ำให้ผมเห็นอะไรบางอย่างซึ่งต่างจากภาพที่ผมคิดไว้มากเด็กเหล่านี้เขามีทุกอย่างที่ครบถ้วนไม่ว่าจะเป็นการ เรียนการใช้ชีวิตต่างๆ เหมือนว่าเขาไม่ได้ขาดอะไรจากเด็กปกติ

สถานสงเคราะห์เด็กก�ำพร้า “วัดดอนจั่น” เกิดขึ้นโดยพระครูปราโมทย์ ประชานุกูล เจ้าอาวาสวัดดอนจั่น ผู้ก่อตั้งโครงการพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิต “ปี พ.ศ.2528” วัดดอนจั่นได้ ก่อตั้งโครงการนี้ จนมาถึงปัจจุบัน ก็เป็นเวลา 35 ปีแล้ว เจ้าอาวาสเป็นผู้รับผิดชอบดูแลค่าใช้จ่ายทั้งหมดของเด็ก 700 กว่าคน ส�ำหรับเด็กที่ อยู่ในการดูแลของวัดดอนจั่นนั้นส่วนใหญ่เป็นเด็กในกลุ่มเด็กก�ำพร้าเด็กยากจนเด็กด้อยโอกาสรวมไปถึงเด็กกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ ที่มาจากครอบครัวยากจนและขาดโอกาสทางการ ศึกษาซึ่งหากยังอยู่ตามล�ำพัง หรืออยู่กับพ่อแม่ที่ไม่พร้อมก็อาจไม่สามารถเติบโตเรียนหนังสือหรือท�ำงานได้สิ่งที่เจ้าอาวาสน�ำมาบริหารจัดการเด็กวัดดอนจั่น จะใช้หลักพุทธ ธรรม ได้แก่ “ศีล สมาธิ และปัญญา”นอกจากพระครูปราโมทย์แล้ว ยังมี จอมศักดิ์ ประสานไกรทอง หรือ ครูเก๋ หนึ่งในผู้ดูแลโรงเรือนวัดดอนจั่น ที่ศรัทธาในแนวคิดของ พระครูปราโมทย์จึงอาสามาเป็นครูผู้ปกครองที่ท�ำหน้าที่ดูแลความเป็นอยู่ทุกอย่าง ไม่ต่างไปจากผู้ปกครองจริงๆ และที่ส�ำคัญคือจะไม่มีการ “ตีเด็ก” โดยเด็ดขาด เน้นใช้วิธี การเข้าถึงจิตใจของตัวเด็กเป็นหลัก เด็กทุกคนที่มาอยู่ที่นี่ กินฟรี อยู่ฟรี มีอาหารการกินให้ 3 มื้อ นอกจากจะเป็นสถานสงเคราะห์เด็กด้อยโอกาสในเขตจังหวัดภาคเหนือ แล้ว วัดดอนจั่น ยังเปิดสถานศึกษาสอน ตั้งแต่ระดับชั้นอนุบาล ประถมศึกษา มัธยมศึกษา ตลอดจนถึงระดับวิทยาลัย โดยจะใช้ธรรมะและหลักการท�ำสมาธิเข้าไปอยู่ใน กิจวัตรประจ�ำวันเสมอ

เมื่อจบจากศูนย์การเรียนรู้วัดดอนจั่นแล้วสามารถเรียนต่อที่วิทยาลัยสารพัดช่างห้วยแก้ว และยังสามารถต่อมหาวิทยาลัยมหาจุฬาลงกรณ์ราชวิทยาลัย วิทยาเขตเชียงใหม่ ได้จึงเป็นสถานศึกษาที่มีครบครันทุกระดับชั้น มีการน�ำธรรมะมาสอดแทรกแล้วยังมีความโดดเด่นในเรื่องอื่นๆ อีกโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง เรื่องกีฬา โรงเรียนแห่งนี้ มีนักวิ่งฝีเท้า จัดจ้านอยู่เป็นจ�ำนวนมากซึ่งทุกสนามที่นักกีฬาในนามโรงเรียนวัดดอนจั่นลงแข่ง ก็มักจะกวาดเหรียญและถ้วยรางวัลกลับมา ประดับตู้เกียรติยศแทบทุกครั้งและเด็กที่นั่นมี ความสุข สนุกสนานแค่ผมหยิบกล้องขึ้นมาถ่ายแล้วเห็นรอยยิ้มของเขามันเหมือนผมว่าอย่างน้อยผมก็ท�ำให้เด็กกลุ่มนี้ยิ้มได้ผมจึงอยากบันทึกภาพเหล่านี้เก็บเอาไว้ ภาพของ ผลงานชุดนี้ต้องการให้เห็นชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของเด็กๆ ในหลากหลายแง่มุมและความสุขที่เขาได้รับจากสถานสงเคราะห์วัดดอนจั่น

Mentioning about orphan, the first image that comes up in your head will be a kid who waits for help from others, and orphanage might not be the best place. This is the reason I was interested to do this project, to help those who need as much as I can.

หากกล่าวถึงภาพจ�ำเกี่ยวกับเด็กก�ำพร้าในหัวก็คงคิดว่าเป็นเด็กที่ รอความช่วยเหลือจากผู้คนภายนอก สถานรับเลี้ยงก็คงเป็น สถานที่ที่ไม่น่าอภิรมย์สักเท่าไหร่นัก และนี่เป็นเหตุผลที่เริ่มสนใจ ที่จะเข้ามาในพื้นที่แห่งนี้ด้วยความพร้อมที่จะช่วยเหลือในทุก ด้านหากท�ำได้

Orphans’ daily lives are same as the others. They get to eat, get to learn, get to play with one another, get to be developed all the time.

ชีวิตประจ�ำวันของเด็กที่นี่เหมือนกับเด็กทั่วไป พวกเขาได้รับอาหาร ได้รับการศึกษา ได้วิ่งเล่นกับเพื่อน มีกิจกรรมเพื่อพัฒนาในด้านต่างๆ อย่างไม่ขาดตกบกพร่อง

Telling the story about the ethnic diversity that reflects reality and the diversity of culture and society, as well as religion and the different range of ages. But, everything blends together smoothly, showing no difference than the reality.

บอกเล่าเรื่องราวของความหลากหลายทางชาติพันธุ์ ที่สะท้อน ความจริงของสังคมและวัฒมนธรรมในความหลากหลายทาง สังคมภายในพื้นที่แห่งนี้ก็ยังมีให้เห็น ไม่ว่าจะป็นชาติพันธุ์ ศาสนา วัฒนธรรม รวมไปถึงช่วงอายุที่ต่างกัน แต่ทว่าทุกสิ่ง กลมกลืนกันได้ไม่ต่างจากความหลากหลายในสังคมโลกปกติ

The most important thing after being a part in this place is the journey. I have the new different image of orphanage — the children don’t wait for hope and wish as I thought. They are like others who are able to do anything, and ready to live their lives as other human beings.

สิ่งที่ส�ำคัญที่สุดหลังจากที่ได้มีส่วนร่วมอยู่ในพื้นที่นี้นั่นคือเรื่องราวระหว่างทาง ภาพจ�ำที่มีต่อสถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กก�ำพร้าเปลี่ยนไป เด็กที่นี่ไม่ได้นั่งรอความหวัง อย่างน่าสงสารเหมือนที่เคยคิด เด็กที่นี่เหมือนเด็กปกติพวกเขามีความสามารถ มีความพร้อมและรอวันไปเผชิญโลกภายนอกได้อย่างมนุษย์คนหนึ่ง
