GENERALLY SPEAKING
With General Manager Hannah
Let’s get to know our General Manager! We sat down with Hannah to learn about her career journey and discover how she arrived at her current position at Riverton.
Q: How long have you worked at Riverton Country Club? Did you start in the position you are in now?
A: I joined the Riverton family as the Food and Beverage Director in September 2019. Coming from a club that focused on enhancing the dining experience through a Facility Master Plan, I saw Riverton as an opportunity to implement successful practices and positively impact our members. In October 2022, I was promoted to Clubhouse Manager, and in April 2023, I became the General Manager. These past five years have flown by, proving the saying true: time does fly when you’re having fun.
Q: What do you love most about working at Riverton?
A: What I love most about Riverton, as cliché as it may sound, is the people. I truly believe our members and staff are second to none. Seeing new members come to the club and instantly form connections and friendships brings me immense joy. The lifelong bonds created here are extraordinary. Our members are so welcoming and genuinely want everyone to feel included, and that’s something we should all be proud of My team is another reason I love working at Riverton. It’s an honor and a privilege to collaborate with such dedicated individuals who treat one another like family. A team like this is hard to come by one that genuinely cares about both the club’s success and each other’s well-being.
Q: Did you always envision yourself working in the food and beverage industry while growing up?
A: Nope. Never. I recently found a box of school work from my childhood, and when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I had an Olympic Swimmer, followed by a hairdresser, and finally, the last documented childhood dream landed on a Marine biologist. I recall wanting to be a dolphin trainer for a brief period of time after swimming with dolphins on a family vacation. If you ever wanted to know how much dolphin trainers make, let’s just say that dream was short-lived. I went into college with an undeclared major, but after freshman year, I thought I wanted to be involved in the event planning business.
Librizzi
The rest of that semester, I traveled to as many clubs as I could, never missed a class, and sat in the front row trying to soak up as much information as I could From that day on, I had made up my mind and have not looked back
Q: What do you believe are the key qualities of a successful manager, and how do you foster these qualities in your team?
A: To be a successful manager, especially in the club world, fostering relationships is key. While building connections with members is important, establishing strong relationships with your team is even more crucial. Given that we often work when most of the world is off nights, weekends, and holidays we spend a lot of time together, making open and honest communication essential. Your staff should feel comfortable coming to you for anything, not just to seek the 'right answer,' but to engage in meaningful discussions and arrive at the best solutions together.
It’s vital for your team to feel empowered to make their own decisions, whether they’re right or wrong. If a mistake occurs, let’s talk about the thought process and explore what could have been done differently. We’re all human, and we make mistakes. What matters is that your team knows they have your full support and that you’re committed to promoting a one-team mentality.
I enrolled in a class called “Club Management” and after the first day, I was hooked. I can remember calling my mom after leaving the class and telling her that I wanted to get into clubs. Since I did not grow up being a member at a club, it was only natural that the worry in her voice made me realize I needed to specify golf clubs as her mind went to nightclubs. Ripples | 6
Q: What approaches do you use to improve the member experience and ensure their satisfaction at the Club?
A: I take all member feedback seriously. When someone has a negative experience or makes a recommendation, I believe it's crucial to discuss it with all relevant parties and departments to see if we could have handled things differently. I keep my office door open to encourage anyone to stop by for a chat or send me an email. I strive to respond promptly unless I need more context from others. If it matters to you, it matters to me.
Although my current role limits my time on the floor compared to previous positions, I still try to be present and engage with members This is an excellent opportunity to gather feedback
Q: Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives you are most excited about at Riverton?
A: The list of projects we have is never-ending, and there’s so much potential to enhance the world-class amenities at Riverton. However, I’d like to take some time to appreciate the beautiful facilities we’ve recently renovated. It can be challenging to prioritize projects, as members are eager to see improvements and enjoy the benefits. For example, while we need essential upgrades like a new roof, kitchen equipment, and a walk-in refrigerator, it can be tough to justify these behind-the-scenes improvements when everyone wants visible enhancements.
One idea I’m excited about is establishing a kids’ center where parents can drop off their children with a full-time babysitter This would allow them to enjoy activities like golf, tennis, lessons, or even a date night with their significant other
I’d also love to see a business center featuring individual work cubicles for those who need a change of scenery from home or the office. This space could include a conference room equipped with professional AV technology for meetings. Additionally, the tennis/pickleball facility is high on my priority list, as is transforming the Hemingway Room into a dedicated restaurant with a new menu. A fitness center would be another fantastic addition. The possibilities are endless, but it’s essential for us to gather input from our members to determine what they find most important. As our membership grows, so does our capacity to offer unique amenities that set us apart from other clubs in the area.
Q: How do you balance your professional responsibilities with your personal life?
A: This is something I have tried to work on for years, and while I am not the best example of it, I consider myself very lucky to have a husband who understands that work doesn’t stop just because I’m not there Emails will be checked on days off, phone calls will be answered no matter the time of day, and when I say I will be home "at a good time," I mean hopefully before 9PM If I say "leaving soon," you should add at least another hour, because chances are, I’ll make one final lap through the dining room to catch up with a member I haven’t seen in a while
I think there are always ways to improve your work-life balance, and it's something that is continuously going to change as life and staff change. My team knows that if something happens, I want to be the first call, but there is still a guilty feeling that if something happens, I could have helped prevent it. Luckily, I have a great team of professionals who I can lean on when I am not there and know they will respond appropriately to any situation.
Q:What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A: What I love most about my job is the privilege of working in a place where people come to have fun Members visit the club to unwind, relax, and create lasting memories with their families and friends Seeing the joy on their faces b f k h l d

Welcome to Fall! This marks my fifth season at Riverton, and it's amazing to see how much it has changed and evolved. I still find it thrilling to showcase this incredible club to prospective members each tour feels fresh and exciting. Since April 1st, we've welcomed 52 new members, which is truly remarkable! Whenever I encounter our wonderful members and ask them to share their experiences, they never fail to rise to the occasion, and I’m so grateful for that enthusiasm.
This brings me to our Member Referral Program, which we like to refresh each year Earlier this year, I had a great time with the $5,000 drawing during our 4th of July Event, and I was thrilled when the Carney family’s name was drawn! For the rest of this year, we’ll be offering a $250 credit to your member account as a thank-you. But it’s more than just a credit; it comes with my heartfelt gratitude. I also want to extend a sincere thank you to our new members for allowing us the opportunity to serve you.
We’re fully embracing the fall season at the club, and I hope you’ve noticed the opportunities for enjoyment and engagement we’ve created. We aimed to develop these mini-events to enhance the House/Social membership experience. While our new amenities are fantastic, it’s the events at the club ranging from simple to extravagant that truly define us and attract new members, while keeping attrition low Just to highlight a few: Martini Flight Nights, Wine Down Wednesdays, The Riverton Raffle, Happy Hours, Kids Club, Live Music, Pop-Up Dinners, and so much more, all with a focus on genuine hospitality.
As many of you know, 2024 has been an incredible year for membership This marks our third year offering the “Golf -In-Waiting” Program, as we are capped at 360 full golf members. Currently, we have 15 on the Golf -In-Waiting list and 30 Restricted members, totaling 45 on the waitlist for full access. In total, we have 691 members across all memberships.
If you have friends or family who are interested in experiencing the camaraderie we enjoy here at the club, now is the time to have them reach out! Membership initiation fees will be increasing in the coming years.

Green October drew white
As the hot summer days transition to crisp autumn air and cool breezes, golfers everywhere start to feel a renewed sense of excitement
Fall, with its vibrant foliage and refreshing weather, transforms the golf course into a playground for both amateurs and seasoned players alike. There are many reasons why autumn is, arguably, the best season for golf From the conditions of the course to the pure beauty of nature, fall offers a unique golfing experience that’s hard to beat
One of the biggest perks of playing golf in the fall is the weather Gone are the sweltering summer days that can leave you feeling drained after a few holes Fall brings cooler, more moderate conditions that make walking the course enjoyable without the sweat.
The comfortable temperatures allow for better focus and stamina, helping to improve your overall game For those who find the summer sun overwhelming, fall offers a reprieve that feels just right for a day spent outdoors
Fall weather is not inclusively more enjoyable to golfers. The grasses that make up the golf course also enjoy and thrive more than in the hot, humid summer months. While the cooler air temperatures and lower sun angles play a major part into why grass grows more efficiently, the main impacting factor is that the soil temperatures are still warm
These weather conditions make certain golf course maintenance practices more efficient than other times of year You may have noticed the aeration holes and the marks from the over seeding machine in the rough.
Seeding in the fall is ideal since seeding into the warm, damp soil while air temperatures are cooler, is perfect for seed germination Grass plants also start to regrow roots that have been reduced due to the high temperatures Divot recovery also increases with the autumn weather Although it is always best, and at times crucial, to replace your divots, the seed in the divot mix will germinate quicker than in the summer.
Fall is also a good time to spray any weed species that may be lingering The lower temperatures not only make the herbicides more efficient but are also less agitating to the desired grass species Playing conditions also improve in the fall because the grass is more able to respond positively to the stress of lower height of cuts and more frequent rolling. Another response to the cooler weather, the grass uses water more efficiently. This is key to help promote drier, firms, and faster playing surfaces
Whether it's the comfortable weather, stunning natural scenery, impeccable course conditions, or the peaceful atmosphere, fall presents the perfect opportunity for golfers to enjoy the game they love
The fall season offers a unique balance of beauty, tranquility, and ideal playing conditions that are hard to match at any other time of the year. If you haven’t experienced fall golf yet this year, now is the time to grab your clubs, head to the course, and savor what might just be the best season for the sport

cast iron pan dinner
This is an easy dinner recipe I used to make for my kids. With our busy careers and their packed schedules, it can be tough to find time to cook in the fall. This was my go-to meal!
6-8oz Chicken Breast | 4 each Yukon Gold Potatoes, Quartered | 1 lb Brussel Srouts, Halved | 1 Lb White Onions, Sliced Thick | 1 each
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
Heat your cast iron pan on the stove over medium heat
Add oil
Sauté your onions until golden brown on medium heat; make sure to stir frequently.
Remove from cast iron and into a bowl
Do the same with potatoes and Brussel sprouts
Using the same pan on high heat, sear your chicken breast Remove from pan
Add all your vegetables back into the pan and place chicken breast on top
Place cast iron pan in the oven and let it roast for 30-40 minutes (Make sure chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees).

CHEF’S TIPS
As winter approaches, we may not be grilling as often as we did in the summer
To keep my grill in great condition during the colder months, I winterize it to protect it from the elements. Here are some tips for doing it properly:
Coat your grill grates with a light layer of cooking oil using a spray or a rag, similar to how you would normally season them This will prepare your grill for cooking when spring arrives, while also creating a barrier that prevents moisture from causing rust during the winter Be sure to choose an oil that won’t go rancid; coconut oil, palm oil, and grapeseed oil are all great options. Once you ’ ve coated the grates, place them back into the grill and turn all the burners to high for about a minute to vaporize any excess oil Remember, too much oil can attract insects and wildlife, so keep it light!
If you expect your grill to be out of commission for several months, consider wrapping your burners in plastic wrap or plastic bags. This helps prevent spiders and other insects from nesting in the venturi and burner ports If you decide to wrap the burners, we strongly recommend not reinstalling them in the grill especially if you tend to forget things, as burning plastic can ruin your first grill session in spring Instead, simply place the wrapped burners on the cooking grates and close the lid Additionally, consider wrapping the disconnected gas line and the gas orifice that feeds the burners for added protection.
Polish the exterior of your grill to provide an extra layer of protection against the elements. If your warranty allows, you can also use a sprayon corrosion inhibitor, which you can find at most auto parts stores Just be sure to apply the spray only to the exterior, as it isn’t food-safe and should not come into contact with any cooking areas This simple step can help extend the life of your grill and keep it looking great!
If your grill has an electronic ignition system, be sure to remove the battery to prevent the contacts from corroding during the winter. This simple step can help ensure that your ignition system works smoothly when you ’ re ready to grill again in the spring
Place a properly sized grill cover over your grill, especially if you plan to leave it outside during the winter months Prolonged exposure to the elements can significantly shorten your grill’s lifespan, regardless of its quality Consider it this way: would you rather invest a small amount in a grill cover, or face the cost of replacing the entire grill every few years? We know which option we prefer!

Looking ahead to the next season, I’m excited about new initiatives and events designed for our advancing players, while continuing to support those just starting out
A special thanks to Lee Collins for his dedication to pickleball; your enthusiasm and passion truly inspire all your participants.
Once again, thank you all for your support. I eagerly anticipate the 2025 season. Wishing everyone a happy holidays!

The game and each rally starts with the serve. The player on the right side of the court, facing their opponents, starts the serve You serve diagonally to your opponent, into the right or left service area:
A serve must be hit with an underhand stroke or backhand with contact below the waist Your arm must move in an upward arc when you strike the ball You can hit the ball out of the air or drop the ball on the ground and hit it The goal of the pickleball serve is to put the ball in play (Quite different from the tennis serve, where the goal is to serve aggressively to win the point.)
After the serve, gameplay continues until a “fault” is committed A fault ends the rally There are 3 types of faults:
The serve does not clear the kitchen (including the line) A shot is hit out of bounds behind the baseline or outside the sideline A shot is hit into the net
The 7 ft zone on each side marks the non-volley zone, or 'kitchen' This means you can never hit a volley while having any part of your body in the kitchen And you can’t let your momentum carry you into the kitchen after a volley either Once you play, you’ll see players at the net have a big advantage. They can hit any ball high enough with a downward "smash". This shot puts opponents immediately on the defensive
If your opponent hits a short shot landing in the kitchen, you can enter & hit from the kitchen Dinks are a defensive shot and an important pickleball strategy. Often your best move after moving into the kitchen to field a dink is to dink right back to your opponent’s kitchen.
The ball must bounce on both sides before either team can volley
Before any player can hit a shot out of the air, the ball must bounce once on each side (known as the 'double bounce rule'). So. if your partner is serving and you start at the kitchen, you’re in a dangerous position Why? Because the returning team can hit a shot right at you, and if you react with a volley, that’s a fault. You lose the point.
You only win points on your serve

You can hit groundstrokes in the kitchen first team to 11 wins but you must win by 2
You only win points on your serve, and you continue serving until you lose a rally After winning each point on your serve, you switch sides with your partner and serve to the other opponent
Both partners serve in a turn
In each turn, both players (in doubles) get the opportunity to serve. In scoring, you’ll hear players announce three numbers, "Zero, zero two" So what the heck is that third number? It tracks which of the two players on a team has the serve
Let’s say the game is tied at 3-3. If you start the serve, you’ll announce “3-3-1,” so everyone knows you are the first player in rotation serving. If you lose the rally, the ball doesn’t go to your opponents It goes to your teammate who will announce “3-3-2"
If your partner loses their serve, a 'side out' occurs in which the ball returns to your opponents who again announce, “3-3-1".
Following all the rules above, the game continues until one team gets 11 points The catch? You have to win by 2
