GENERALLY SPEAKING

With General Manager Hannah

Wow, this year has flown by, hasn't it? It's hard to tell if time is speeding up or if we're just having too much fun! Just think, this time last year, our stunning zero-entry, resort-style heated pool was just a hole in the ground. The Golf Center was merely a frame with a roof, existing only in our imaginations.

It's amazing to see how much the Club has transformed with the Facility Master Plan. With the additions of the patio, pool, golf center, and simulator lounge, it's hard to remember what the Club was like before these enhancements.

The finished product was worth the wait! With the splash pad nearing completion, we can enjoy our home away from home all summer long. I’m sure many of us have also been missing those delicious artisan pizzas from our Poolside Café since October.

With our revamped Poolside Café, we're excited to introduce a variety of breakfast options served exclusively on weekends through our service window. Whether you're heading out for a round of golf, or on your route to a sporting event, drop by the Club and grab a quick bite between 6:30AM and 10:00AM.

The service window will also be available for your convenience to grab a quick bite, or cocktail to take out on the course with you. Chef JC and his culinary team have worked hard during the off-season to curate a menu that will enhance your dining experience. Our wine, beer, and cocktail selections have also been carefully selected and paired with our menu offerings to complement the flavors.

On another note, I would like to also take a moment to congratulate Caitlyn Porter, who has been promoted to Director of Food and Beverage When I moved into the position of General Manager, Caitlyn played an instrumental role, eagerly taking on more and more responsibilities without hesitation. She is a huge asset to the Food and Beverage Department and assists greatly in the day-to-day operations in both Member Events, A la Carte and Pool Service I look forward to watching her career progress.

Based on your Member feedback, we are excited to announce several new amenities at the pool area To enhance your comfort and enjoyment, we will be adding larger umbrellas for additional shade, picnic tables for pool parties, and more seating options surrounding the pool deck

Additionally, we will be implementing a towel service at the pool, so you can relax and enjoy your time without worrying about packing extra towels

With these new enhancements, there's no need to look elsewhere for a perfect vacation spot we have you covered right here!

As a friendly reminder, please continue to fill out the NPS surveys as you receive them. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and we rely on these surveys to track our progress and make improvements

Thank you for helping us create a better experience for everyone.

I am dedicated to making Riverton feel like your home away from home, and as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any comments, feedback, or ideas.

My door is always open

As winter grays fade away, and the vibrant hues of spring emerge, our golf course has come alive with the promise of firm and fast greens, smooth fairways, and deep rough

Spring is a crucial time for the golf course maintenance, as it sets the tone for the rest of the year. Springtime maintenance of a golf course is similar to the foundation of a new building It is the time to set the keystones of that foundation that sets the stage for the rest of the year

At the heart of our spring maintenance regimen lies the practice of aeration. This vital process involves perforating the soil to alleviate compaction and facilitate better air, water, and nutrient circulation to the soil profile The process of Drill and Fill and solid tine aeration has been utilized this year

the greening of spring drew white

Drill and Fill is when machines equipped with multiple drill bits are used to drill holes in the greens that are twelve inches deep and three quarters of an inch in diameter The machines then fill each hole with sand. The solid tine aeration process is when a machine punches holes into the greens without removing any material

This process helps aid in the healing of the larger Drill and Fill holes and incorporates more sand into the soil profile Solid tine aeration is utilized on tees and fairways

By creating channels for essential elements to penetrate the soil, aeration sets the stage for robust turf growth, and improved playability throughout the season

Ripples | 15

Spring fertilization is akin to providing a balanced diet for our turf, fueling it with the nutrients needed to thrive Our customized fertilization program delivers the optimal blend of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and many other micro and macro nutrients to promote healthy growth; this allows recovery from play and winter dormancy. With careful timing and precision application, we aim to cultivate firm, full, and healthy surfaces that elevate the golfing experience for our Members and guests

As the desired grass species awaken from their winter slumber, as do the weeds that threaten to encroach upon our meticulously manicured fairways and roughs To preserve the pristine beauty of our course, we employ a comprehensive weed control strategy that combines preemergent herbicides to prevent weed seeds from germinating and post-emergent treatments to target existing weeds. By staying ahead of weed proliferation, we ensure that our fairways and roughs remain a sight to behold and a pleasure to play on

The art of mowing is a cornerstone of our course maintenance efforts, where precision and consistency reign supreme. With the onset of warmer temperatures, our dedicated agronomy team meticulously adjusts mowing heights and frequencies to maintain optimal turf height and playability By adhering to strict mowing practices, we not only enhance the visual appeal of our course, but also promote smooth and true ball roll.

Water is the lifeblood of our turf, and proper irrigation management is paramount to its health and sustainability Our state-of-the-art irrigation system undergoes thorough inspection and calibration to ensure precise water distribution across the course. By monitoring soil moisture levels and adjusting watering schedules in response to weather patterns, we strive to maintain resilient turf that can withstand the rigors of play, while conserving our precious water resources

Vigilance is the key to pest management, as we remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding our course against potential threats

Through regular monitoring and early detection, we identify and address pest infestations promptly, whether they be insects, diseases, or rodents By taking proactive measures to mitigate pest activity, we uphold the integrity of our course and ensure an enjoyable golfing experience for all

Through meticulous care and unwavering dedication, we strive to create an environment where golfers can immerse themselves in the timeless beauty and tranquility of the game

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Members for their continued support and patronage. We look forward to sharing many memorable rounds of golf together in the weeks and months ahead

It’s an exciting time to be a Member of Riverton Country Club with the completion of the Club enhancements over the past year! Dating back to the holiday’s... Compliments on the delicious Christmas Brunch from the Club's excellent dining staff The menu included crab cakes, frittata's, potato pancakes, and a gourmet salad We have been very pleased with these holiday brunches for takeout, never been anything but satisfied For us, the Yule brunch is best accompanied by Bailey's Irish Cream and a traditional eggnog

We have been Member’s at the Club for 45 years During this period, our Member experience has been the most enjoyable social experience. We consider Riverton our home, away from home.

One of the many strong points of the Club has been the staff for being knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly

Throughout the years we’ve patronized the Club not only on weekly basis, but also special events, such as the Christmas Ball, and all the many parties they have hosted.

Joe and I look forward to another 45 years! (ha, ha, ha)

Tom and I love going to the bar for Wine Down Wednesday’s. It never fails, and we always meet new Members. The espresso martini’s are my favorite. Tom loves the oysters and we both enjoy sampling the specials, never been disappointed.

The new spring menus have once again set the stage for an amazing dining experience. Many times, I don't get past the outstanding list of appetizers and specially curated cheese boards when trying to decide what to have on a Friday night at the Club. They are all great, but my current favorite is the tasty, Japanese Wagyu Beef Tataki It’s a super fun experience to cook at the table served on a hot stone We always keep an eye out for the weekly specials to see the creative ways Chef JC and his team are using different techniques and seasonal ingredients to keep things exciting. One of our favorites recently was the Pan Seared Chilian Steelhead Trout. It was a really unique offering and was cooked to perfection. No matter what you choose, it is a great time to be dining at Riverton.

I hope you have all had the time to experience and taste our Spring Menu The menu showcases some of our most outstanding culinary creations One of the standout dishes on our menu is the Wagyu Beef Tataki Originally introduced as a special, its immense popularity among our Members quickly earned it a permanent spot This dish offers a unique and engaging experience that utilizes a hot river rock to sear the beef to perfection Personally, one of my favorites is the Fried Pig Wings; three 4oz pork shanks that are braised, deep-fried, and coated in our housemade Korean BBQ sauce Also, you may have noticed the pan-seared scallops with corn farrotto have made their return For our Lunch Menu, introducing weekly sandwich specials to our enables me to enhance the variety we offer. As summer approaches, we're excited to welcome seasonal delights like the arrival of soft-shell crabs and heirloom tomatoes. Pretty soon we'll be enjoying the poolside atmosphere, savoring crowd favorites such as the artisan pizzas. Plus, keep an eye out for my rotating chef's special pizza each week to satisfy all cravings.

CHEF’S TIPS

Grilling season is here and I thought what better way to kick off the season than to give you quick tips on how to properly clean your grill You’ll need a bucket of hot water, a degreaser, a vacuum, and a grill brush. The first step is letting all the old grease burn off. Make sure your grill is a safe distance from any structure of trees Light your grill to its highest setting, drop the lid, and let it go for 30 minutes to an hour To avoid a grease fire, make sure there isn’t any grease on your drip pan. Open the lid with a rag because of the hot temperature Use your grill brush to brush off any excess carbon that’s left from the grates Remove the grates and drop into bucket of hot water with degreaser, and let it sit for two hours. Don’t worry about your gates if they are exposed, you can flip it after an hour After that process, wash off the degreaser with cold water Vacuum any carbon that is still in your grill The final step is “seasoning” your grill grates Turn your grill back on low, use a clean rag with a little cooking oil to rub oil on the grates. After 10 minutes, bring the temperature of your grill up to medium heat and repeat Then turn on high and repeat again This “seasoning” process will help keep your grates clean throughout the season Now your grill should be ready for some outdoor cooking!

WORD’S FROM THE CHEF

Note: Makes (2) 16 ounce smoothies.

Enjoy!

The season has finally arrived. Between all our upcoming events, our Poolside Café opening, and the Clubhouse restaurant, the culinary team is ramped up and ready to bring in another season of culinary adventures for our Members As I embark on my second full season as your Executive Chef, I am incredibly grateful for the privilege of crafting and implementing new menus Moreover, I deeply appreciate the chance to explore novel culinary avenues and receive your valuable feedback along the way Unlike in a conventional restaurant or catering environments where feedback often only surfaces when problems occur, I'm fortunate to receive your daily thoughts and input, here at Riverton This constant exchange allows me to craft menus that cater to all your culinary preferences effectively. Feel free to share your thoughts via Member Insight emails or catch me in the restaurant. I love to hear positive comments, but I also value any constructive criticism it helps me improve, and allows me to address the issues promptly

A serve must be hit with an underhand stroke or backhand with contact below the waist Your arm must move in an upward arc when you strike the ball You can hit the ball out of the air or drop the ball on the ground and hit it The goal of the pickleball serve is to put the ball in play (Quite different from the tennis serve, where the goal is to serve aggressively to win the point.)

After the serve, gameplay continues until a “fault” is committed A fault ends the rally There are 3 types of faults:

The serve does not clear the kitchen (including the line) A shot is hit out of bounds behind the baseline or outside the sideline A shot is hit into the net

The 7 ft zone on each side marks the non-volley zone, or 'kitchen' This means you can never hit a volley while having any part of your body in the kitchen And you can’t let your momentum carry you into the kitchen after a volley either Once you play, you’ll see players at the net have a big advantage. They can hit any ball high enough with a downward "smash". This shot puts opponents immediately on the defensive

If your opponent hits a short shot landing in the kitchen, you can enter & hit from the kitchen Dinks are a defensive shot and an important pickleball strategy. Often your best move after moving into the kitchen to field a dink is to dink right back to your opponent’s kitchen.

The ball must bounce on both sides before either team can volley

Before any player can hit a shot out of the air, the ball must bounce once on each side (known as the 'double bounce rule'). So. if your partner is serving and you start at the kitchen, you’re in a dangerous position Why? Because the returning team can hit a shot right at you, and if you react with a volley, that’s a fault. You lose the point.

You only win points on your serve

You can hit groundstrokes in the kitchen first team to 11 wins but you must win by 2

You only win points on your serve, and you continue serving until you lose a rally After winning each point on your serve, you switch sides with your partner and serve to the other opponent

Both partners serve in a turn

In each turn, both players (in doubles) get the opportunity to serve. In scoring, you’ll hear players announce three numbers, "Zero, zero two" So what the heck is that third number? It tracks which of the two players on a team has the serve

Let’s say the game is tied at 3-3. If you start the serve, you’ll announce “3-3-1,” so everyone knows you are the first player in rotation serving. If you lose the rally, the ball doesn’t go to your opponents It goes to your teammate who will announce “3-3-2"

If your partner loses their serve, a 'side out' occurs in which the ball returns to your opponents who again announce, “3-3-1".

Following all the rules above, the game continues until one team gets 11 points The catch? You have to win by 2
