How did you get into real estate? My path was unconventional and unexpected. In 2000, my, now husband, and I contracted with First Texas to build our new home. At the

About six months after closing on our home, I was given the opportunity to take the role of ‘acting Sales Counselor’ for one of our communities, and soon thereafter, was promoted to Community Sales Counselor – the rest is history.
Hidden talents... I can ride a unicycle and juggle at the same time. I can write, in cursive, upside down, backward, and with both hands, at the same time.
The most enjoyable part of your job? One of my personal successes is realized through a strong base of repeat customers. Eschewing traditional sales tactics, and employing a strong understanding of new-home construction and design, coupled with a commitment to exceptional customer service, I have forged relationships that have resulted in multi-generational home purchases within individual families, and have even sold as many as five personal homes to a single family, as their needs, and family dynamic have changed. It’s quite rewarding all around. Our niche, in the industry, is allowing structural plan changes, which affords me the opportunity to exercise my creative side in assisting buyers with designs that best suit their needs.

I was talking with Kristin Smith and her favorite sidekick, Cheyenne Overturf, awhile back. Cheyenne was telling me that she was excited about 2019 because she was going to launch something. I’ve never really launched anything, other than in 1969 when my teenage cousin Tommy Jr., and I, a snot nosed kid, would go out in the middle of a cotton field and LAUNCH little rockets and then watch as the little man parachuted out of the sky and fell safely back down to the delta dirt. Just like those Apollo astronauts we watched on TV. Anyway, my awesome marketing team helped me design and launch our new website! Check it out GWLOANS.COM…When the launch happened I experienced a weightless feeling of being in rare-air, right alongside Cheyenne, Kristin and all the other astronauts before us. Speaking of a rare-air...experience a few moments with Kerwin “Tommy” Wooten — it’s a joy. This guy has my favorite thing. Passion! He’s also coachable. I gave him a hint on how to get a starter to work with a hammer, and boom! It launched!

Something we might not know about you? At 13, I had to get a hardship driver’s license when, sadly, I lost both parents to cancer. I had no choice, I HAD to work. I was a shy kid, but I landed a job at Skaggs Grocery Store in Garland. My manager took me under his wing and gently ‘pushed’ me out of my comfort zone by assigning me tasks that required I speak with the public. He became like family, even attending my high school graduation and wedding. Flash forward many years and I found myself divorced with two young boys. My sister, Pat, who was like a second mom to me, was in real estate. She had the big fancy car and all! At the time, I thought I was making good money at $15 an hour, but she wanted more for me, and she challenged me to get my real estate license, so I would have a career. I always admired my sister and her successes, but I wasn’t like her. I pooh poohed the idea. Then my sister said, “Well then go ahead and just be a clerk at a grocery store for the rest of your life.” That worked! I didn’t want to disappoint my sister. I started night school for real estate and two years later, I was selling real estate in Mesquite with ERA Real Estate.

traveled for training and further education, I have trained sales people how to sell new homes, I’ve been a Director of Sales & Marketing, and I’ve won several awards over the years.
The most enjoyable part of your job? I love when clients morph into dear friends. I meet so many interesting people who have lived all over the world. I get to hear their stories, then play matchmaker to their new home with their lifestyle! ld

riding horses for fun at the Circle K Riding Stables in Garland when I was 16. I watched girls run their horses around barrels and I thought it looked like fun. I decided to try it. I made a few unsuccessful attempts. I continued to perfect my time racing around the barrels until it became second nature to me and my horse. I was 24 in the photo at left. I stopped riding at 25. I wish I had more photos to share, but I became the keeper of family photo treasures over the years and I lost everything I owned in a horrific house fire one year at Christmas time. The worst part was that it took every precious family photo. The handful of photos I have today were found in the collection of Aunts or other family members.
