You can work towards additional training qualifications in hybrid technology and air conditioning systems to enhance your employability and personal development. Our excellent workshop facilities include eleven vehicle ramps, a simulated MOT standard test lane and four-way Hunter laser wheel alignment.

Gain relevant, practical experience in our multi-million pound, purpose-built workshop which, having five bays, makes it the largest in the area. All our vehicle technology courses are paperless – using modern learning methods, you will work through your own ePortfolio as you advance your practical skills.

Many of our motor vehicle students have gone on to work for independent garages and main dealerships, and following completion of our Level 3 qualification you can train in MOT testing.

It’s a great job with very good prospects. After a few years’ experience I’m hoping to achieve my IMI Level 4 Certificate for Master Technicians at the Kia Academy.

Where you’ll be studying

Following a £7 million investment, our purposebuilt engineering centre opened its doors in 2018 and contains the very latest equipment and resources. Our new centre includes workshops, a stunning exhibition style showroom, classrooms and a state-of-the-art electronics lab.

Based in our multi-million-pound workshops, which are equipped to industry standard, you’ll develop your technical knowledge and practical know-how in the maintenance of automotive vehicles by using the latest diagnostic equipment.

Our workshop has five bays which makes it the largest in the area and contains advanced diagnostic systems such as Autel MaxiDAS, DEC Superscan, Picoscope, Autel Quadscope, Ethos and VAG-COM.

“Both my courses delivered more than I expected and my work placement gave me a good insight into the industry. If you put in the effort you get extra opportunities and I sat my Level 3 exams and practical assessment early so I was better placed to get more experience and a job.”

Your Reaseheath Experience

As a motor vehicle student, you’ll get to enjoy behind the scenes trips to sporting venues and track days and visit relevant businesses and car companies. You may also have the opportunity to join in social events such as go-karting and paintballing.

We offer a range of additional qualifications and training which are great for your personal development and a valuable addition to your CV. You can train for Level 3 awards in electric/ hybrid vehicle system repair and replacement or in automotive refrigerant handling.

We also offer an IMI Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Class 4 and 7)* and IMI Level 3 Award in MOT Test Centre Management* which are approved by VOSA (Vehicle and Operator and Services Agency).

Our courses are hands-on, and we work closely with industry to make sure your skills meet the needs of employers.

We have strong links with well respected automotive companies such as SYNETIQ, Smiths Autoparts and Grensons.

You’ll be based mainly in our well-equipped workshops, so time spent in the classroom is kept to a minimum. With the help of our dedicated staff you’ll develop your knowledge of a range of automotive vehicles and become familiar with vehicle electrics, engines, chassis systems and braking systems.

Our Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas cover vehicle electronics, engine management, electric vehicle technology, chassis technology and modern transmission systems. You’ll also learn about vital workplace health and safety practices, vehicle diagnostics and customer services so you’ll be fully prepared for employment in this sector.

You’ll also complete a 100 hour work experience placement. We have great industry links with local companies which will enhance your learning and make sure you are career ready.

INDUSTRY FOCUSED We are focused on preparing our students for work in the industry. One of the ways we do this is by working closely with relevant companies which you may work for in the future to ensure your skills meet the needs of employers. Our courses

Our motor vehicle diplomas offer a great balance between practical and theoretical study and are all one year long in duration. Your GCSE results will determine whether you start on a Level 1 or Level 2 programme. Following this you can then progress to Level 3 or onto an apprenticeship.

Level 1 Foundation in Engineering If you are interested in engineering, this handson course offers you a great introduction to a range of engineering skills including using hand tools, welding and electrical wiring

Level 1 IMI Diploma in Transport Maintenance This is a great introductory course to give you the basic mechanical skills you’ll need to work in the automotive repair industry

Level 2 IMI Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair This course is for automotive enthusiasts keen to jump-start their career in the motor vehicle industry. Throughout the year you’ll be trained to repair and replace light vehicle components, working on a range of different motor vehicles

Level 3 IMI Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Building on your training at Level 2, you’ll advance your skills in more complex chassis and engine repair work, appealing especially to the aspiring automotive technician

ACADEMY OF FOUNDATION LEARNING AND LIFE SKILLS

Develop vital personal, learning and employability skills to help you prepare for adulthood and the world of work in our Academy of Foundation Learning and Life Skills.

You’ll learn about subjects that interest you and our very experienced staff, who have worked extensively with young people, will be onhand to support you in achieving your goals.

Work experience placements, volunteering opportunities and fundraising activities will help boost your confidence. As your confidence grows, you’ll develop key employability skills such as time keeping, understanding body language and learning how to work as part of a team. You’ll also continuing to improve your English and maths.

You’ll be based in Chaffinch, our £1.5 million purpose-built centre, solely for use by our foundation students. You’ll also have access to industry standard facilities across campus and, depending on which course you choose, you could find yourself working in our advanced engineering centre, equestrian centre, commercial farm, sports centre or in our specialist teaching zoo and purpose-built farm barn.
