Introduction: Welcome to our November in season Podcast here at RecipeThis.com.

In the Milner household November is all about the one week of the month. That is the fourth week of course when Thanksgiving is on everyone’s minds, black Friday deals are our obsession and we can FINALLY consider thinking about Christmas.

It is also the month that our first child was conceived and the month our second child was born. I waited a VERY LONG time, well 13 years to be exact to have this cute little girl in my life. Then she did us the pleasure of being born on the week of Thanksgiving.

This year will be perfect as it will be Thanksgiving on the Thursday, Black Friday the day after and then her 3rd birthday on the Saturday.

I can imagine a long turkey filled weekend with lots of fun and laughter.

But away from Thanksgiving week we also love November for the first glimpse of winter as you can still have shorts and t-shirt days in Portugal until late October.

We also love it for lots of winter comfort food and plenty of carbs.

November Foods In Season Let’s start our foods in season for November and let’s see what is in season around the world and what you can buy right now to be able to a) eat wholesomely b) eat frugally.

Foods In Season #1 – Celeriac

A new one on our in season Podcast celeriac is a delicious food and it is PERFECT for eating in November.

Celeriac Recipe Suggestions Let’s start with this delicious celeriac soup. I have never had it in a soup so for me its something brand new and totally different.

After this I would also suggest:

• Roasted Root Mash • Low Carb Breakfast Hash • Healthy Celeriac Soup • Celeriac & Apple Soup Foods In Season #2 – Parsnips We first featured parsnips on the blog back in January and they are my favourite winter vegetable. When I sniff them they remind me of the smell of Christmas. Have them roasted, air fried, in roast dinners or the simple way in a soup.

Parsnip Recipe Suggestions I love parsnip soup. It is perfect for a starter for Sunday lunch or with some fresh bread for lunch.

After this I would also suggest: • Pork Tenderloin With Apples & Vegetables • Roasted Parsnips & Brussel Sprouts • French Beef Stew With Old Fashioned Vegetables • Parsnip Pizza Crust Foods In Season #3 – Brussel Sprouts Thanksgiving and Christmas are just not the same without Brussel sprouts or in our household arguing over who gets the last one.

Which of course is always ME Served with lots of butter and bacon they are food heaven.

Brussel Sprouts Recipe Suggestions

I just look at this Asian Brussel Sprouts & Shrimp Traybake and could eat it all day.

After this I would also suggest: • Roasted Sweet Potatoes & Brussel Sprouts • Brussel Sprouts Gratin • Brussel Sprouts Salad • Slow Cooker Brussel Sprouts Foods In Season #4 – Cabbages After brussel sprouts comes cabbage. Cabbage is also perfect for this time of the year and we love to use our cabbage in our leftover Thanksgiving as bubble and squeak.

Cabbage Recipe Suggestions Let’s start with cabbage soup. A delicious soup that is perfect if you want to lose some weight before Christmas or you just want a frugal lunch.

After this I would also suggest: • Fish Taco Cabbage Bowl • Twice Cooked Cabbage Bake • Sausage & Cabbage Soup • Warm Red Cabbage Salad Foods In Season #5 – Swede

YES it is finally swede SEASON. I love swede especially mixed with carrots and it is also nice for root vegetable traybakes and of course as part of a Sunday dinner. Nothing says winter quite like swede does.

Swede Recipe Suggestions For a yummy winter soup then it doesn’t get any easier or more delicious than carrot and swede soup. A favourite in the Milner house and perfect for if you have some spare swede.

After this I would also suggest: • Roasted Swede With Maple Syrup • Airfryer Veggie Bake Cakes

• The Ultimate Veggie Bake • Chunky Vegetable Soup Foods In Season #6 – Leek Leeks is a frugal mama’s best friend. They are cheap, they can regrow themselves to make even more and they are so versatile for using in a variety of dishes. Just get leek chopping and the ideas will just roll!

Leek Recipe Suggestions Give me leeks please and LOTS of them. Especially the way the Turkish have them in delicious koftas.

After this I would also suggest: • Butternut Squash & Leek Soup • Deconstructed Chicken & Mushroom Pie • Slimming World Curry Sauce • Slimming World Super Speed Soup Foods In Season #7 – Kale Kales are a delicious modern vegetable for your everyday diet. Serve them in stews, in a salad, in a casserole and even better as part of your Thanksgiving feast.

Kale Recipe Suggestions

OMG kale in a casserole has landed and I can’t stop staring at it! I bet it tastes just as good as it looks…

Pomegranates are the fruit that is most in season in November.

I am a big fan of a chicken skillet. When everything is loaded up into one pot and makes a delicious nutritious dinner. This version includes pomegranates and looks so, so good!

Foods In Season #9 – Pork It is back after being featured in October. Pork is such a beautiful tender meat and is in full season in November. Get excited over pulled pork, pork roast, pork chops and of course the much loved bacon!

Airfryer Mediterranean Pork Chops Welcome to our Airfryer Mediterranean Pork Chops. Loaded with delicious flavours and so easy to cook in the Airfryer.

Author: RecipeThis.com Serves: 4 Preparation time: 2 Minutes Cooking time: 15 Minutes

Ingredients: • • • • • • • •

Airfryer Airfryer Grill Pan 4 Pork Chops Handful Cherry Tomatoes 4 Garlic Cloves 1Tbsp Olive Oil Handful Fresh Rosemary Salt & Pepper

Instructions: 1. Preheat the Airfryer to 180c/360f.

2. On your chopping board season the cherry tomatoes with salt, pepper and drizzle them with olive oil.

3. Season your pork chops with salt and pepper.

4. Grate the garlic and spread it over the pork chops.

5. Place the pork chops and the cherry tomatoes on the grill pan inside your Airfryer and cook for 15 minutes. Turn your pork chops ½ way through so that both sides can be cooked.

6. Serve with seasonal vegetables and fresh rosemary.

Notes: I like to have mine with green beans in winter and asparagus in summer.
