The holiday season is upon us and the staff of Richland Parks and Public Facilities is excited to round out 2022 with loads of programs, fun, and events for our citizens and visitors!
The Richland Public Library has recently introduced the Tumbleweed Tourist Attraction Pass Program offering library card holders the opportunity to check out attraction passes online! Swing by the library to learn more about the pass or visit http://www.ci.richland.wa.us/tumbleweedtourist.
The Richland Seniors Association have reestablished their regular 3rd Friday Dances! Polish those dancing shoes and get ready to cut a rug on Friday, Nov 18th and Friday, December 16th at 1pm at the Richland Community Center! Watch RSA’s website (www.richlandseniorsassociation.com) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RichSrAssn/events) for the latest and greatest from this wonderful organization serving Seniors in our area. Richland’s Recreation team has recruited a new instructor to provide two new inviting fitness classes for folks “of all ages, and in all stages” as the instructor likes to say: Chair Yoga & Chair Aerobics! These classes are perfect for those who are looking to improve their fitness after taking some time off from exercise or returning after an injury. Exercises are designed to be adaptable for all levels of fitness to meet you at your level and provide a solid workout for all!
What would December be without our annual Winter Wonderland events and activities! The HAPO Festival of Lights dancing light show returns to John Dam Plaza with a better than ever kick off event on Friday, December 2, 2022 where we light up the park for the holiday season! The kick-off event at John Dam Plaza is followed by lots of festive fun down at Howard Amon Park and the Richland Community Center with food vendors, musical performances, photos with Santa, BINGO!, Train Rides on the J&S Express, lighted holiday displays along Lee Blvd, and the Clover Island Yacht Club lighted boat parade with a FIREWORKS show to cap off the evening! Saturday, December 3rd , the Community Center and Howard Amon Park will host all the same activities as Friday! Two nights of Holiday Fun!
The dancing lights will dazzle your eyes each night from 5-9pm through January 2, 2023, and each year we sneak in all sorts of family-friendly activities throughout the month of December. Join us for the annual HAPO’s Winter Wonderland Festival of Lights. The highly awaited “flipping of the light switch” is an event you won’t want to miss. Countdown with appearances from Santa & Mrs. Claus and holiday characters, food vendors, free kettle corn and cocoa (while supplies last). Salsa & Bachata Práctica

Argentine Tango

Beginning Class focusses on basic leading and following skills, connection between partners, simple steps as in the 8 count basic, parada, ochos and more. Class is progressive and continues each month, but new students are welcome. Skills are taught from authentic tango danced in Buenos Aires. Intermediate - Students will learn more complex steps while practicing detailed technique focusing on partner connection, contra-body, musicality, footwork, cross system, leading and following and more. Students should have at least a year of tango experience and know the basic steps. A partner is required to enroll in this class.

Richland Resident (R) /Non Resident Policy (N)
The City recognizes the primary purpose of Parks and Recreation is to provide for the recreational needs of Richland residents. People living within Richland’s city limits support the City’s parks and recreation services through taxes. People residing outside the city limits are welcomed and encouraged to enjoy City sponsored events and programs at a non resident rate.
Class Refund Policy
The City reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, relocate, or combine activities as needed. If Parks and Recreation cancels an activity, participants will be notified, and a full refund will automatically be issued. A participant initiated refund for classes and activities must be requested no less than three (3) business days prior to the start date and will not be issued for any value less than $5. Participant initiated refunds will be assessed a $5 processing fee per class/activity for each person involved. Refunds take approximately 14 days to process. Refunds for VISA and MasterCard transactions will be credited to the same card used in the original transaction.

Outdoor Facility
City cannot predict weather or other environmental conditions such as insects, wildlife, uneven terrain, wet grass and puddles, dirt and dust, noise from other park users, or other unpredictable, unknown, or natural factors that occur in a public park. City will use its best effort to provide the facility at an acceptable level of service consistent with that provided to all park users.
Outdoor Cancellation Policy
All event cancellations must be made in writing. Cancellations made 14+ days prior to the event date receive a full refund of the agreed hourly rental fee. Cancellations made 7 13 days prior to the event date receive 50% of the agreed hourly rental fee. Cancellations made 0 6 days prior to the event date receive no refund of the agreed hourly rental fees. Damage deposit refunded in full if cancelled prior to the event. Administration fee is non refundable (admin fee only pertains to Special Event Agreements).
Statement of Non Discrimination

Participants shall not be refused services due to their gender identity or gender expression. Non-Discrimination in Education Programs and Activities
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal statute created to prohibit sex discrimination in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. The City of Richland does not discriminate against any person based on sex in the operation, conduct or administration of community athletic programs. City sub recipients and contractors providing educational programs and activities are also prohibited from discriminating against any person based on sex.
Sports Concussion and Head Injuries
A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury or TBI caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This sudden movement can cause the brain to bounce around or twist in the skull, creating chemical changes in the brain and sometimes stretching and damaging brain cells. Medical providers may describe a concussion as a “mild” brain injury because concussions are usually not life threatening. Even so, the effects of a concussion can be serious.
