Dear Parents and Caregivers, This week, following the Senior Executive Induction last week, the Year 12 Class of 2022 really kicked their leadership initiatives into overdrive. It has been such a joy to see them grasp the opportunities to make a difference within the life of the school. All their teachers have noticed this enthusiasm and are very impressed. Keep it up Year 12 Class of 2022. The Final HSC Examinations begin next week on Tuesday when the students all write English Paper 1, followed by English Paper 2 on Wednesday. There will be many relieved students and teachers once the process gets underway. The shifting goalposts for this cohort have created great upheaval this year and I am very proud of our students and teachers for the manner in which they have adapted to every curveball that has been thrown at them. We wish them well for a calm exam period where they are able to articulate all for which they have been prepared.

On Tuesday the Year 7 students were faced with the prospect of receiving their HPV 2nd Dose vaccinations. I’m not sure if the fact that vaccinations are so topical at the moment but never before have we had such a calm, compliant, no-nonsense attitude from students to getting the jab from the nurses from NSW Health. They were suitably impressed with your bravery. Well done Year 7. Sports Awards and Cultural Awards will once again be combined with the Academic Awards and presented to students at the annual Prize Givings held during the final week of the school year. There will be an award ceremony for each Year Group which we will film so that parents can get an opportunity to watch later at their leisure. At this time, no parents will be allowed to join in person. Mr. Kable sent a Google Doc to both students and parents to gather information about external sporting achievements, which are all recognized and rewarded by Reddam. The form will be closed at 3:30 pm on Monday 8th November. Please find the link here: External Sports Achievements The equivalent Cultural achievements form was sent out by Mr Bortolotti and responses have already been received. The Middle School Environment Portfolio was excited to reveal its expanded recycling program as the new frontier in student-led waste disposal. Included in their new package are additional collection services and one extra Paper Collection Bin to help add more capacity. The Science Department has been enjoying sharing exciting experiments with their students this week. The Year 8 students are studying Energy at the moment. They are investigating energy transfers and transformations. The students observed how chemical energy can be transformed to heat energy through the Elephant's Toothpaste experiment. The Debating Teams who are participating in an International Competition had more success this week with the Y7 Team convincing the students of Vivek High School (India) that we should not ban children from making money off social media and competitive gaming. The Year 9 Team successfully argued that healthcare workers should have the right to strike during a pandemic against St Luke's Catholic College (Sydney) while the Year 10 students suggested that they should not have that right against Bedok South Secondary School (Singapore). For parents who would like to watch this week’s Middle School and High School Assemblies the links are included here: Year 7's are studying Forces and Electrostatics at the moment. They were very excited to experience static electricity using the Van der Graaf generator in class.

The festival of Diwali was celebrated by our Hindu families yesterday and we would like to acknowledge this day as a much-celebrated tradition in Indian culture around the globe. Diwali is also known as the festival of lights, signifying the victory of good over evil, light over darkness. Happy Diwali to all our Hindu families.
Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead. Dave Pitcairn
