Canteen Sports Fixtures Plus much more...
Dear Parents and Caregivers, Welcome back to Term 1.
What a start it has
been. Everyone has been issued with their RHATs and the process has started with testing on a Monday and Thursday morning. Any positive students stay at home along with any close household contacts. In this way school will remain open and functioning.
Teachers
who find themselves in this situation have been teaching remotely while isolating. I do believe this is a good time for our Reddam community to stand together and help those isolating with regular communication or reaching out to see if there is anything that is needed. It is not a time for a witch hunt with interrogation as to how they became positive which will only serve to further isolate the person. The “us and them” scenario is divisive and not part of the Reddam ethos at all. We are all in this together. Happy Chinese New Year to all our Chinese families. Also known as chūn jié (春节, the Spring Festival) it fell on the 1st February this year, which according to the Chinese lunar calendar marks the beginning of the Year of the Tiger. Year 7 Chinese Continuers did paper cutting of the Chinese character “春” (chūn, spring). Year 8 and Year 9 Chinese Continuers made lanterns. They learned the cultural significance of the symbolic Chinese New Year items.

We are still celebrating the outstanding HSC results of the Class of 2021 and I hope you will have noticed the ban-ner proudly displayed at both the Woollahra and Bondi Campuses. We will be welcoming them back to an as-sembly next Friday to acknowledge their place in the history of the school as the class to achieve the best HSC rank ever with their sixth place. In staff news, I’d like to welcome a few new teachers to the school: Michelle Eckhardt joins the Music Department, Lei Guan the Maths Department, Audrey Roby will be teaching French to Year 7 to Year 10 students, Ryan Vose joins the PE Department, and Anne Moller will be teaching Geography and Entrepreneurship. At Bondi, Leanne Whittingham takes over the reception and will be your first port of call on that Campus. I trust that you will join me, their colleagues and their students in making them feel very welcome at our school. My wish for them is that they enjoy working at

this school as much as their students enjoy coming to school. That can only result in a positive spiral of learn-ing. Following the sad passing of the very much loved, Jez Johnson, I can confirm that we have secured a fantastic Design and Technology teacher who needs to work her four week notice period and will join us on 7th March. I will introduce her closer to the time. Please be patient as we do the best we can to cover these lessons until then. This week the orientation for the Year 7 students included a day at Raging Waters followed by a day of ice skating and 10 pin bowling. Mr Compton and Mrs Karney were very happy with the opportunity these activities presented for students to get to know one another in this fun-filled manner before commencing with classes on Wednesday. We welcome the Year 7 cohort to Red-dam and hope that their High School journey continues as positively as the start has been.

Fantastic news for Xavier Nicholas of Year 11 who played for the NSW U16 Waterpolo Side against seven other representative teams from different states in the Summer Slam during the last week of the holidays. The team ended the tournament undefeated, beating the Queensland Team in the Grand Final. Xavier played one of his best games in the final and was not only selected as the U16 Goalkeeper of the Tournament, but was also made the Australian Cadet Squad. From this squad they select the Australian team to attend the World Championships. Well done Xavier. A link to the Middle School Assembly is included for those interested which includes many more student achievements. Middle School Assembly 4/2/22 Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead, Dave Pitcairn
