Drama Careers Plus much more...
Dear Parents and Caregivers, The first issue of The Stag Student newspaper for 2022 came out on Monday and I include the link for parents who might be interested. The Stag Student Newspaper Mia Seisun of Year 12 and her team have done an amazing job, with this week’s edition being their fifth since starting in Term 4 last year. They are now looking for students from the younger years to take over the baton as they start getting more engrossed in their HSC studies. There have been nine Year 10s who have shown an interest so far and they are looking to add students interested in journalism from the other year groups as well. If interested in being involved, your child can contact mia.seisun@reddamhouse.com.au . Year 7 students had a session on the impacts of social media. This presentation provided students with education on the psychological impacts of social media use, and gave them the opportunity to reflect on the social media they use, how they use it, and how it makes them feel. The presentation aimed to empower young people with the knowledge and tools to use social media with more awareness, safety, and agency. This week the second set of four RHAT packs were distributed to all students. I remind parents that these tests are to be done on a Monday and Thursday. Each week there have been exceptionally small numbers of positive cases in the school. I will not continue sending out a letter informing parents each time there is a new case at this stage. It appears that the NSW Government will not continue providing schools with RHATs beyond week five. It is my opinion that this system of safeguarding the school community has worked well and we will look at how cases are progressing at that time before making a decision about how we as a school will proceed. Fantastic news for Scarlet Marshall (HSC Class of 2021) who has been selected as one of two HSC students to exhibit her HSC Art Major Work at the Australian Design Centre opening on 10th February. The exhibition is in the gallery on William Street in Darlinghurst, and is open to view 24 hours a day until 3rd March. Details here: https://australiandesigncentre.com/objectspace/high-safe-tea/ As part of our ongoing pastoral care programme organised by Mr Garratt and Emma Lambert (school psychologist) the students had workshops on various important topics on Friday last week. @REDDAM—The Reddam House High School Newsletter
Year 8 students attended the talk “Let's talk body image in a digital world” presented by the Butterfly Foundation. The presentation explored the role that social media plays on body confidence and self-esteem. The Year 9 students were engaged in the most important seminar “Informed Consent" presented by Elephant Education in small workshop groups. They explore the concept of sexual consent and respecting boundaries. It included discussions about the legalities of consent (including the age of consent and free agreement), consent and sexual activity, respecting boundaries and seeking support and help. The Dux Assembly this Friday honoured the top achievers from the Class of 2021. It was wonderful to share their successes with the Senior students. Their example and stories which were shared in the assembly serve as such a motivating factor for our current students who will be facing the HSC in coming years. We wish all of our Class of 2021 well as they all start the next phase of their lives. Many are starting at Uni next week and many are already in the midst of Orientation Week.
