Dear Parents and Caregivers, The school is well and truly back into the swing of things and routines are established and being settled into. For many it is hard to believe that next week we are going into our 5th week back since the summer holiday. The flow of a term has quite a calming effect on students as they get themselves into their individual personal routines that work for them. They are now more comfortable with their teachers and the expectations they have of them. They can now enjoy the term and year ahead safe in the knowledge that they are an integral part of the school and understand its workings. Despite COVID restrictions, we have pretty much got all activities back up and running and it is exciting to observe the many opportunities available beyond the classroom in which students can be involved. The Sport, Academy and Cultural programmes are up and running and if your child still wants to join in, please make contact with the school so that they can be pointed towards the appropriate person to get them started. This last weekend the Year 12 Art students went on their annual Art Retreat visiting Hobart to do an extensive

study of MONA and visiting a number of other sites of cultural importance. In Asher Emdur’s words, our trip was “a little community of the coolest people, doing the coolest things, in the coolest place” See Sofia Weidler’s article on their experience later in this newsletter. The creative safe space in which students can explore, experiment and spend time widening their artistic horizons, created by Laurellen Symonds and Amy Bambach, is appreciated. The Year 12 Drama students attended Callback on Tuesday where they had the opportunity to see the best of the best Drama pieces from the NSW HSC Class of 2021 as selected by the examiners. Seeing what excellent performance looks like allows our students to calibrate their own ideas and performances against that standard. A great reality check as well as a confidence booster for our students. Valentine’s Day on Monday saw both campuses awash with red, pink, and white mufti. This is always a day enjoyed by the students and a real pity that the traditional Valentine's Dance could not be held again this year. Money raised from the gold coin donation is going to the Butterfly Foundation.

The online Parent Information Evening for Year 7 parents was well attended and while not nearly as effective as being able to meet in person, fulfilled a very necessary information void that parents new to Reddam High School might have been feeling. We look forward to restrictions being eased to have the opportunities to have in person evenings of this nature for the other Year Groups.

their daily routines. Year 12 students had the privilege of learning from the HSC Class of 2021 in the “Study Buddy” workshop. My thanks to last year’s students who returned to school and shared their tips and strategies with this year's Year 12 students. Based on their 6th in the State ranking, their advice was taken exceptionally seriously.

Information packs containing the High School Guide, Extra Curricular programme and parent contact lists were sent home with all Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9 students. This helps parents navigate the Middle School world of their adolescent children. This Friday in assembly the senior school students engaged in various interesting and important activities: The Year 9 students attended the Junior Executive Induction where the leadership team for the Middle School was announced. Introduction of the team follows. The Year 10 students had a Life Lessons workshop including the important emphasis on consent. Students achievements this week include: Egor Grachev of Y7 took part in Sydney Jiu Jiteiro's competition at Dee Why PCYC. Competing in two divisions, the Boys Gi (Yellow/Orange/Green belt) Teen ll (14 y.o.) - 52.5 kg and the Boys No Gi (Yellow/Orange) Junior lll (12 y.o.) - 48.3 kg. In both sections he received the silver medals. Congratulations Egor. Joseph Glasson is traveling to Spain for the Junior World Cup of Fencing this week. We wish him well and look forward to hearing how he fared. Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead. Dave Pitcairn Year 11 students had a Meditation workshop where hopefully the well documented benefits of meditation to one's mental health and wellbeing became clear to them. The goal would be for the students to include some of these stress relieving activities into

DRAMA On Tuesday evening our HSC Drama students attended the Seymour Centre as audience for a production of OnSTAGE: An Outstanding Showcase of Major Works from the 2021 HSC Drama Examinations. Our seniors were entertained by the variety of projects presented and inspired by their conviction and creativity to bring these pieces to life on stage. We were audience to group performances, monologues, video dramas and a staged reading of a Scriptwriting project presented in a range of performance styles. From comedy and parody, to mystery and suspense these pieces gave our students some strong examples for how they can enhance their HSC performances. We wish our students the best of luck as they navigate their own Individual Project: Performances.

HOBART ART RETREAT A weekend of effervescence, adventure, vibrant colours, and just a little bit of late-night cramming - our Hobart Art Retreat is one we will never forget. As a woman, I felt so inspired by the adversities that our ancestors had overcome and their inherently relentless courage, and was truly grateful for this experience.

On Friday we commenced our journey at a weary 6am; 45 tired faces naive to the incredible days that were to THE PLACE AND THE PEOPLE: come… In my friend Asher Emdur’s words, our trip was “a little community of the coolest people, doing the coolest OUR VISIT TO MONA: things, in the coolest place” and I could not have said it Subsumed by grandeur, parody, anxiety, beauty, disany better. The universality of art - it's beauty, it's subjeccomfort, warmth, and all that was so wonderfully weird, tivity - brought us all together. CDSSA GALA DAY—14 FEBRUARY 2022 1st V Girls Basketball—Runners Up So proud of our team and everyone’s commitment and hard work on Monday at the CDSSA comp. Everybody played amazing and we were really able to pull together and play as a team. I think we really surprised ourselves with many of the game outcomes, especially the incredible win against Moriah 34-32. Unfortunately the finals didn’t turn out as well as we could have hoped but everyone turned up and played as well as possible. The day was really amazing and we all couldn’t be happier with the rest of the winning results being; 30-11 Galstaun, Pal College 112 - 2 and Pittwater 36-29. Leah Catzel, Year 12

1st V Boys Basketball—4th Place The boys played their hearts out on Monday, and I'm so proud to see us improving more and more everyday. From last place last year to 3rd this year is a big step for our first boys. With our average height being around 5'8 we were able to execute plays under pressure and to perfection, but we had a little trouble scoring against taller and stronger opponents. MUSIC DEPARTMENT The cast of Anything Goes is roughly halfway through the rehearsal period, and excitement is building for a spectacular show! Rehearsals have been the perfect balance of focus and hilarity, taking the comedy of the show to new heights, and delivering high energy and polished performances. This week the student orchestra enjoyed another brilliant rehearsal, and some of our props arrived to enhance the actors' character building. Get ready to set sail in Week 9!
