Last weekend our Year 8 and 9 Drama students went to a Drama camp. Theatresports, Physical Theatre, understanding Shakespeare’s language, a Zeal Theatre Company production, character and playbuilding workshops were some of the activities organised for them by Mr Montgomery. On Thursday the LGBTQIA+ portfolio ran a bake sale and mufti day in support of shelters for students their age, whose families or communities have rejected them based on them identifying as a member of this community. I reminded students that the + in the acronym stood for people who are empathetic and supportive of this community. Our school song states that " We are free to be ourselves and respect each other equally" which suggests that we all fall into the + category if we as individuals don't identify within the community itself. That would be my expectation of all Reddam students. Congratulations to this portfolio on raising $700 for this worthwhile cause. This is the most ever raised in one Mufti Day. Well done. MIDDLE SCHOOL DRAMA CAMP The Years 8 and 9 Drama Camp was a huge success ! From the minute they arrived students were engaged in Theatresports with high energy and hilarious improv games led by our Theatresports tutors. This culminated in a Theatresports Challenge with each group battling it out on stage for prizes and thunderous applause from their peers. So much laughter! On Saturday Swoop Physical Theatre taught students lifts and balances, creating imaginative shapes and characters. The team work from all students was outstanding. There was also a tutor from Sport for Jove teaching the rhythmic language of Shakespeare with students presenting scenes and insulting one another in true Elizabethan style! On Sunday, students welcomed Zeal Theatre Company who performed their production 'The Stones', which received a standing ovation from the entire camp! They then led a character and playbuilding workshop, with

our students creating entertaining narratives applying some of Zeal's acting techniques. Overall, it was a truly spectacular weekend. The response from students was nothing short of extraordinary and the appreciation they showed over the weekend reflects the caliber of students we are lucky to have at Reddam. An experience they will certainly not forget. The Middle School Drama Camp would not have been possible without the support of Will Hodgson and Emily Knight, who were remarkable at motivating students and keeping the energy of the camp at its peak! Emily did a fantastic job working with the students and it gave her great insight into seeing how some of her Dancers are in other creative subjects. The students enjoyed the staff participation and occasionally incorporated us into their pieces, to much hilarity! Chris Montgomery, Drama
