Dear Parents and Caregivers, What a busy week this has been in the life of the school. I suppose that it is pretty normal as all summer competitions are coming to their conclusion and assessments for this term are complete so there is the space and time to extend and enrich students in multiple other ways. Examples include: Year 10 Art students have been on a 2 day, 1 night art retreat to the Quarantine Station at Manly. This was jam -packed full of activities, a history tour of the site, a ghost tour, and stories of the characters who lived across the site. There were three art making workshops each day which entailed drawing, water colour, illustration, photography with digital editing and postproduction, and book and zine making. The students have been enriched with skills and techniques which they will draw on throughout Year 10 and into Year 11 and the HSC in Visual Arts. A spectacularly fun weekend was had by all. Images page 9.

Tim Cogin who accompanied the team and looked after the special meals and management on the track. Our team included Callum Flint, Dean Cadry, Sebastian Pugh, Dion Ryan, Charlie Cogin, Darsen Stiles and Lian Stiles. More photo’s page 13.

This week in Science the Year 7 students have been investigating States of Matter. They played 'Dry Ice Hockey', made coins scream, played with Oobleck, observed density fireworks and had a great time learning. It is always so exciting to see students engage so positively and get so enthused by learning.

Our Girl’s Waterpolo Teams both ended up the season as winners in the Eastside UNSW Competition. What made the victories more interesting is that Reddam 1 played and beat Reddam 2 in the Grand Final and in the Junior section Reddam 3 played and beat Reddam 4 in the Final. Congratulations to all the Girls who play waterpolo. Team photo’s in Sports section on page 12.

Last weekend our legendary Mountain Biking coach, Mick, took our competitive riders down to Thredbo to compete in the All Schools Mountain Biking Championships. The team had a great trip and did very well on the mountain. Special thanks to Mr. Johnny Ryan and

The Girls touch football Grand Finals were washed out last weekend, but the Gold Medal was presented to two Reddam teams as they ended the season on top of the table. Well done to Reddam 3 and Reddam 4 for winning their respective competitions.

Year 10 Drama students completed their Commedia Dell'Arte performances this week creating some outstanding self devised work. Commedia dell'Arte, which translates as "professional theatre," began in Italy in the early 16th Century and quickly spread throughout Europe, creating a lasting influence on Shakespeare, Molière, opera, vaudeville, contemporary musical theatre, television sit-coms, and improv comedy. The style of Commedia is characterised by its use of masks, improvisation, physical comedy, and recognizable character types—young lovers, wily servants, greedy old men, know-it-all professors, and boasting heroes. The students proved that Commedia is very much alive and well in our Contemporary world, producing some hilariously entertaining performances. See some great images on Page 7. The school teams in the Eastside Debating Competition took on Sydney Boys High School with the Year 7, Year 10, and Year 11 teams convincing the judges that their arguments were superior on the night. Congratulations to Year 7s, Maddie Wenmohs, Charlotte Teoh, Alexander Nelenson, and Steven Wynn who argued that children’s film makers should avoid making animated movies that contain darker themes successfully. The Year 10 team of Poppy Hartley, Jo Gilliatt, Oscar Peer, and Sam Derakhshandegan and the Year 11 Team of Eunice Woo, Xander Leibert, Jaiden Chee, and Gabriella Steinberg both won their debates suggesting that Will-they- won’tthey texts with “sad” endings are better than those with “happy” endings.

This week our Theatre Club students attended their second production of the year, ‘A is for Apple’ at the Griffin Theatre. They were treated to a preview performance of the production before it opened to the general public. Our Elective 9-12 Drama students were an enthusiastic audience and appeared to enjoy the production about In Public Speaking we have had a busy few weeks with a young girl preparing to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah. the Rostrum Public Speaking Competition and Plain English Speaking Competition.

Well done to all the students who represented Reddam in these competitions. Much preparation is required, and students are commended for their efforts. A special shout-out goes to Zoe Martin, who stepped in at the last minute to compete at Rostrum after another student could not compete. Our students are truly excellent speakers, and congratulations to Milana Perczuk, Jessica Levy, and Victor Xu for their eloquent and thoughtful speeches. Gabriella Steinberg (Year 11) won her division with her compelling speech about lowering the voting age and she moves on to the Regional Finals in May. In the Plain English Speaking Competition, Rachel Pearlman was selected as one of the winners with her speech on "Return Culture" and her impromptu speech where she spoke about "that slap" at the Oscars. Rachel moves who Captained the NSW CIS Open Woman’s Cricket through to the Regional Finals of this competition. YEAR 8 - DIGITAL MEDIA Over the past few weeks student's in Digital Media have been learning to master the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator. Sam Daniels has demonstrated a significant amount of skill in his drawing ability and, in his own time, he has extended himself to produce the 3 works below. Although he used reference material, which is pretty standard for all artwork, he has produced extremely competent illustrations. Well done, Sam!

YEAR 7 - HEBREW

The Year 7 Hebrew class lesson with The Matzah Factory Passover is a major Jewish holiday that celebrates the Israelites' exodus from slavery in Egypt, which occurs on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan. And as some of you might know, it is dawning upon us with only two weeks remaining. So, we decided to participate in a workshop called The Matzah Factory. In this workshop, we foremost learned and recalled the story of Passover: The tale of how the Jewish people fled from Egypt. We also learned about how they got enslaved in the first place. After that, they gave us a brief history of Matzah and how the delightful, crunchy bread is made. And to the apparent delight of all, we got to bake some. The process was simple yet entertaining. We first got our dough and rolling pin, followed by a makeshift paper hat. Most of us took it upon ourselves to place it up-

on our heads. We first rolled out our dough to a (somewhat) pleasing shape, then pressed it again, this time with a detrimental looking rolling pin I later found out to be called a roller docker. We used this to create the holes that lined the traditional Matzah. Once fin-ished, we set them into an oven to bake. The wait was unbearable but eventually, it was over and we all got to feast upon our creations. To top the session off we took a photo in front of an Egyptian set background to symbolise Passover. We all had a wonderful time both baking the Matzah and recalling the story of Passover. Thank you so much Mrs Kronental for organizing this for us. I think I speak for everyone when I say we truly appreciate this delightful venture.

YEAR 9 - DRAMA Year 9 Drama Performance Assessment This week our Year 9 Elective Drama students presented their first Assessment Task, devising Narrative Playbuilt performances inspired by children's picture books. Our talented students used a range of dramatic techniques to create original theatrical performances which entertained their classmates. They embodied a variety of characters and used their imagination and ensemble skills to stage situations for these characters to overcome. We are proud of our Year 9 students for their hard work and commitment to the rehearsal process overcoming illness and striving to achieve their best. A tremendous effort from all!

HIGH SCHOOL PRODUCTION - “ANYTHING GOES”

Highlights reel - press here

@REDDAM—The Reddam House High School Newsletter

Each year, one of the highlights of the school calendar is unde-niably the High School production. Every year the Reddam House community is blown away by the sheer talent and hard work demonstrated by our students, and the ability to present what is easily described as a professional production. Working together as cast, crew, orchestra, costume department, and hair & make up teams, these students prepare for only a few short weeks before pulling out an absolute show stopper, every time. The same can be said of our most recent production, the Broadway classic Anything Goes. A lot of the usual events on the school calendar have been impacted by COVID-19 over the past two years, however luckily only one High School Pro-duction has been cancelled. This year, the battle was with ill-ness and isolation periods without large portions of personnel, however our students rose to the challenge and audience members were in fact shocked by the ability to produce some-thing that was possibly even better than previous productions. The heart ache, frustration, and turmoil of the past two years melted away by our students' show of discipline, hard work, perfect comic timing, beautiful musicianship and energised performances. A huge congratulations to these fine students on delivering an event of which Reddam is so very proud.
