Dear Parents and Caregivers, Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone had a restful break and that all our students are ready to be energised by the multitude of activities that the new term has to offer. During the holiday ten Year 9 and Year 10 girls together with Mrs Pelosi and Ms Knight embarked on the first Community Service trip to the Northern Territory. $17,000 was raised to support remote indigenous communities near Arnemland (specifically Cannon Hill and Kapalga). The money raised helped build sustainable orchards to help feed the many families in the region for years to come. Our students were actively involved in the planting of these orchards. They were rewarded with opportunities to see and enjoy the many wonders of the region for a week following their labours with the Aboriginal Community. We hope this is the first of what will develop into a respectful relationship between our school and the community. We have planned for next year’s trip which will take place from 7th -17th April 2023 and any students who are interested in joining should contact melanie.pelosi@reddamhouse.com.au.

 Ski Camp  Sport & Careers Plus much more...

Year 11 Elective Drama students staged a production of Lewis Treston's 'Follow Me Home' on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. This episodic play demystifies the issue of youth homelessness and was written by Treston from many interviews with homeless young people in NSW and Sydney. The students produced authentic performances with outstanding belief and conviction that confronted and moved the audiences that watched. Congratulations to the students and to their teachers, Will Hodgson and Chris Montgomery, for all the hard work during the holidays to be able to present such a masterful performance in the first week of term. Truly confronting and thought provoking: great for our privileged students to get to see how so many children their age live.

A video of their adventures was shown in assembly and can be seen at Northern Territory Trip and we have some images on pages 8 and 9. It has been a very busy start to the term with the Year 11 Play, Year 7 Study Skills evening, the distribution of the 9th edition of the Stag student newspaper, and Pastoral Care sessions arranged for Friday. On top of all this the Year 12 students received their Final HSC Exam Timetable from NESA, so that final hurdle starts becoming very real for them. (more on each follows) ANZAC DAY Sarah Mueller continued the Reddam House tradition of representing the school for the Anzac Day ceremony at the Mark Moran Nursing Home playing The Last Post and Reveille as well as gave a reading, which was very well received. Thank you to all students who represented the school at various Anzac services around the country. Lest We Forget. Image, Sarah Mueller, Year 8

On Wednesday night we welcomed Dr Prue Salter as our guest speaker to share her secrets in successful study skills with Year 7 parents and students. In this session she discussed; managing homework and assignments effectively, time management, learning to be more organized for school and home, and working and studying effectively in high school. To access the slides from the study skills evening, go to this link: ELES Study Skills, scroll down to the bottom of the page to the heading Year 7/8 Evening, and you will see the slides and follow-up booklet and the password is achieve. Term and week planners are also available on the same web page (in Section 3), along with the resources referred to in the session, such as the Step 5 video. In our first assembly with Year 7 - Year 12 we shared some study strategies that had worked for Dyllan Garratt in his HSC Examinations last year. I include the link to the video that transformed his academic life and resulted in a boy who was working at his full capacity in Year 7 - Year 10 but never getting more than an SCI of 70 achieving a 97.4 ATAR and being named as a NSW Top Allrounder last year. He attributes his success to changing study strategies in Year 11. If this strategy could be implemented by students at a younger age and perfected over the years, what a win. This video is well worth watching. How to study for exams - Evidence-based revision tips.mp4

consulate in Canberra. This was to welcome the new Chinese Ambassador to Australia and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Australia diplomatic relations. Daniel used it as an opportunity to perform one of his HSC repertoire pieces.

REDDAM SKI CAMP 2022

REDDAM SKI CAMP 2022

Winter - Sunday 10th July - Friday 15th July This camp has been designed by skiers/boarders to give students maximum time on the snow. We will be staying at Snowy Gums Lodge at Smiggin Holes and skiing at Perisher. Subject to conditions we aim at skiing 9.00am to 5.00pm each day. Staying on snow allows us to monitor conditions across the entire resort. On the blue sky days we will be there for the 1st lifts and if there are blizzards we can keep our students warm and dry in the lodge and avoid the chaos on the road up to the ski fields. With experienced and enthusiastic teachers, the students will have a great time on the snow! This Camp is open to the intermediate and advanced, unfortunately we can not take beginners this Winter as there is a lack of Ski Instructors. Beginners will be able to join the Spring Camp this year. Please see Mr Kable for a booking form or email: phil.kable@reddamhouse.com.au for further details.
