Dear Parents and Caregivers, There has been a sense of “giving back” on both campuses this week with a Cultural Day at Bondi combined with food stalls run by students representing their traditional cultural cuisines. A Chinese stall selling dumplings, rice biscuits and other traditional fare, an Israeli stall selling homemade challah with hummus, Nikki’s Bikki’s selling her homemade biscuits, and the Canteen Year 11 team added their flavour to the day with a variety of specials. At Woollahra, a mufti day and sausage sizzle was held in aid of Cancer research. It was so well received that the organisers ran out of stock. Well done to the Charity Portfolios at both Bondi and Woollahra for making a difference while providing a fun day which could be enjoyed The Pride Society enjoyed having Nicholas Stewart, the by their peers. LGBTI Co-Chair from the Australian Lawyers for Human Rights coming to speak to them on Monday during their lunch break. He spoke to students about the importance of standing up for international human rights on a domestic level and what the Australian Lawyers for Human Rights stand for. Some topics discussed were the Discrimination Bill, Safe Schools and Religious Freedom and Education. Students participated in a discourse about what it means to be a lawyer and potential career options in the future. The final two nights of Parent, Teacher, Students interviews were held on Wednesday and Thursday. I thank all involved in this worthwhile process. Teachers have enjoyed getting to meet with the parents of their students and the feedback from parents who also enjoyed the opportunity to put a face to a name and get some clarity on how their child is tracking, has been exceptionally positive. The annual Year 12 Art Showcase, where the art students' HSC major works are exhibited, is open to all Reddam Art students and their parents from 6:00pm - 8:00pm next Monday night. I strongly suggest that students who are thinking of taking Art as a subject in their senior years should attend. They will be inspired by the quality of the works on display and get some inspiration for their own art works. @REDDAM—The Reddam House High School Newsletter

CULTURAL DAY

There are many diverse cultures and religions at Reddam and it’s important not to forget that, but rather, celebrate it. Everyone’s participation by dressing in their cultural colours and holding food stalls (selling food from their country) was extremely exciting to see. The decorations, cultural/international music and overall participation is a tradition I am hoping can continue at Reddam. I hope everyone enjoyed the day, feeling included and celebrated! Paperbark, by Rowan Kremer Year 9 I am not the first to sit here, peeling the thin layers of paperbark from each other, scratching the soft glue dust until the fibre dances in the air and settles pale in my hair. A far cry from the ankle joints of trees that cluster in cold circles of chip bark, the paperbark tree outside my window bends sun-struck from the ground, weeds springing cheerfully through the roots. I unstick the transparent layers that give the paperbark its name and wonder if this is humanity at its core: A space oddity; a tiny drifting rock crawling with curious giants. The world has, in being known, lost its intrigue. There is no movement to stir. No discoveries to spear with a flag, no stone unturned. But the dust in the paperbark is a land of its own, And I, dutifully human, must map it how I can.

YEAR 11- BUSINESS STUDIES On Tuesday the Year 11 Business Studies students embarked on a journey to Leichhardt’s one of a kind; Italian Forum, where they were introduced to Lily, the owner and founder of the restaurant ‘Sweet Lily’s’. Here they learnt all about her establishment dramas, human resources issues and passion for running a sole trader business. The cohort of business studies students enjoyed learning about ‘the operations, inputs and outputs, and were then put to the test making their own pizzas and spaghetti bolognese. To top it off, students each received a serving of Gelato before making their way back to school. A great day was had by all and we learnt so much about the pros and cons of running a small business.
