Dear Parents and Caregivers, This week has seen a lot of excitement at the Bondi Campus as the Charity portfolio enticed students to contribute to the National Breast Cancer Foundation by engaging a number of teachers to dye their hair pink if sufficient funds were raised. I am pleased to announce that they exceeded their expectations raising over $1650 for this worthwhile cause. To the teachers who volunteered to have their hair transformed by the students, thank you. The Science that the Year 7 students are learning has seen some amazing work being produced that has their teachers rightfully excited and proud of their students' attitude. Mrs Lansley and Mrs Lowery commented that, “Students have been making and researching specialised cells. Lucas Buchanan went as far as making an articulated joint to highlight the function of muscle cells. A few others baked cakes to model a leaf cell and sperm cell - so creative, and tasty. We were amazed by their thoughtful and detailed models. The presentations were researched and highlighted the adaptations of their specialised cells. It’s really great to see the students taking such pride in their work and being so engaged.” More images can be seen on page 9.

pieces by Holsinger and Stevie Wonder. This 25 member group included students from year 7 to 11, some of which have been members since it began in 2018, and others who joined this term to participate in this challenging team event. Whilst we didn’t take home any prizes in this hotly contested section against 13 other bands, every student performed exceptionally well and the effort and progress made in the last few weeks was particularly impressive. Year 8 students have recently been learning about Music Well done to everyone! for Political and Social change in their music classroom lessons, and in Term 2 this has included lessons on how to play the ukulele. Students have worked with peers to perform an ensemble arrangement of John Lennon's 'Imagine' which each group performed in class this week. Students have had a lot of fun with this activity as most have progressed from never having played the instrument before to presenting a complete ensemble piece, also reinforcing many of the theoretical musical concepts and chord-theory through more practical music-making.

Lucas Buchanan made an articulated joint to highlight the function of muscle cells.

The year 7's who have heard them practising in class are now looking forward to their turn to play these classroom instruments in Term 4. On Tuesday, the Reddam Concert Band competed in the band division of the Sydney Eisteddfod, performing

Men’s Team. Good luck Sophia and Joseph. Max Craven, Year 11, has once again made the Randwick Representative Rugby team. Continuing to play with a fractured hand last week he has been ruled out this weekend, however, what an honour to not only make the team, but also to receive his jersey from Simon Poidevin. With Half-Yearly Examinations fast approaching, students are encouraged to use the Queen’s Birthday long weekend to ensure their preparation is on track. In the Middle School next week will be revision week, with no new work being taught. Students are advised to use the time in class to ask any questions they may have about the format of the exam, topics that will be examined, and areas with which they may be struggling. They should be using their Exam Guidebook to ensure they fully understand the expectations of their teachers and if not, it is so important to get clarity about this.

Some student achievements this week include: Janey Martin in Year 7 was one of only ten students selected to represent the youth on Waverley Council's Power to the Future project. This program run by Waverley Council is a project for ten local students to translate ideas, new knowledge, skills, and energy to influence change and undertake tangible and effective climate actions. The project brings young “climate change champions” in partnership with seniors, council staff and community partners, to influence decision makers with locally identified climate solutions. It also focuses a lot on spreading awareness through videos and social media.

I have explained to students that the process of preparing for and writing these assessments is exceptionally important, even more important than the eventual result. I have been at pains to explain that being process focused and not results focused will see all students succeed in the long run. This week’s assembly is a recorded one again as the Primary School are writing their exams in Adelaide Hall. For those with 40 min on their hands, the link to this assembly is included. Middle School Assembly

Sophia Glasson continues to impress with her fencing prowess being a late inclusion into the National Women's Team for the Asian Fencing Championships. At fourteen, I wish all our students a calm preparation weekend and to be competing at this level is incredible. She joins her week ahead. brother, Joseph who is also competing for the Australian Dave Pitcairn

Paperbark, by Rowan Kremer Year 9 I am not the first to sit here, peeling the thin layers of paperbark from each other, scratching the soft glue dust until the fibre dances in the air and settles pale in my hair. A far cry from the ankle joints of trees that cluster in cold circles of chip bark, the paperbark tree outside my window bends sun-struck from the ground, weeds springing cheerfully through the roots. I unstick the transparent layers that give the paperbark its name and wonder if this is humanity at its core: A space oddity; a tiny drifting rock crawling with curious giants. The world has, in being known, lost its intrigue. There is no movement to stir. No discoveries to spear with a flag, no stone unturned. But the dust in the paperbark is a land of its own, And I, dutifully human, must map it how I can.
