Dear Parents and Caregivers, The Year 12 Cohort have an extremely busy last term of their school lives, prior to writing their Final Examinations early next term, so I start this newsletter with their news.

The Year 12 Drama Students had their Trial Practical Examinations on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. This is the last opportunity for them to show their Group Performances and Individual Performances to a live audience before the HSC markers come to the school at the end of this month. The feedback from the external marker helps them refine and perfect their work and Mr Hodgeson and Mr Montgomery believe they will take it up even another notch in the last two weeks before they perform for the examiners. I loved their work and was so impressed with all of them.

in Medicine. This is a tremendous achievement, congratulations to Jaison.

Other fantastic news from this cohort is that Jaison Krutik, has accepted an offer for a 2023 Tuckwell Scholarship at The Australian National University (ANU).

This Program at ANU is a most transformational undergraduate scholarship program with a total scholarship package valued at up to $140,000, offering funding to students for five years of full-time study; allowing them to take full advantage of their time at university, including the many academic, social, cultural, sporting and leadership opportunities that come with life on campus. This year, they received over 1000 applications. Jaison was one of only 50 invited to interview in Canberra earlier this month, where he impressed the selection panel and was offered one of 25 Tuckwell Scholarships for 2023. Even more impressive is that he is one of a maximum of three students offered this scholarship and entry into a Degree @REDDAM—The Reddam House High School Newsletter

This Saturday the seven students who have been studying HSC French have their Final Oral Examination with the Hebrew Final Oral Examination next Wednesday. Mrs O’Carroll and Mrs Kronenthal are optimistically confident that their students are well prepared and ready for this challenge. We wish them well. There are some exciting positions being filled in the Middle School Leadership Team. I would like to congratulate: • • • •

Rocco Taylor on being elected as one of three on the Judiciary where he joins Marlena Pasvolsky and Carson Lin. Bianca Peer joins her sister as House Captain Piper. Maya Antonir joins the team as the House Captain for Bennelong. Milana Perczuk becomes the new leader of the Women’s Empowerment Portfolio.

Sophie Marcolina of Year 10’s Berklee Experience in her words: “Over winter break, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a Vocal Intensive, pre-College program at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. It was a two-week program that included high-school students from across America, Canada, the UK and me from Australia. All the classes I took were amazing and helped me become a better singer and performer. I learned a lot of new techniques, like sight singing and new breathing exercises. All the teachers were very inspiring and created a space in which I felt safe to try new ideas and techniques. It was a very intensive program. I had classes from 10am in the morning till 8pm at night, with a dinner and lunch break — in a classic American cafeteria. The classes I took included: sight singing, stage works, performance, music theory, Alexander technique, breathing boot camp, repertoire class and choir. On top of all these classes I also had private singing lessons and coaching with the different voice teachers. I got amazing feedback and am excited to apply it to my singing in the future. I also learned a lot from watching other people at the camp and was inspired by all the amazing voices. I really enjoyed staying in a dorm with roommates and getting the experience of living on an American Uni campus. On the weekend, we took a break from singing and had the chance to explore Boston. We took a boat cruise around Boston Harbour, went to historic markets and saw the musical 1776. I loved exploring Boston, it’s an incredibly beautiful and historic city. Ultimately, the program enabled me to make lifelong friends and experience what life would be like if I went to America for Uni. It was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget.” Well done Sophie, what a life changing experience.

Haines Sayer from Year 11 had a very special opportunity last week, when he joined the University of New South Wales Wind Symphony Orchestra for their Percy Grainger Tribute concert. Haines was a guest artist at this concert on tuba, a wonderful opportunity to join tertiary students and a professional conductor.

Enoch Lim of Year 7 spent his recent term break doing an online course through the United Nations Institute Training and Research on two courses, with a keen interest in finding out more about climate change to cities and children. He studied and completed the assessments successfully on these specialised modules. Through these modules, he learned how children can be impacted by climate change, how their resilience can be strengthened, and how they can act to address this challenge. He also learnt how cities are affected by climate change, how they contribute to it, and how they plan for it. On top of that he plans to study Entrepreneurship next

SPRING SKI CAMP 2022

Sunday 25th - Friday 30 September This camp has been designed by skiers/boarders to give students maximum time on the snow. We will be staying at Snowy Gums Lodge at Smiggin Holes and skiing at Perisher. Subject to conditions we aim at skiing 9.00am to 5.00pm each day. Staying on snow allows us to monitor conditions across the entire resort. On the blue sky days we will be there for the 1st lifts and if there are blizzards we can keep our students warm and dry in the lodge and avoid the chaos on the road up to the ski fields. With experienced and enthusiastic teachers, the students will have a great time on the snow. The Spring Camp is open to all levels from Beginners through to Advanced Please see Mr Kable for a booking form or email: phil.kable@reddamhouse.com.au for further details.

There are lots of ways into university, and early entry is one of them. Designed for students who have excelled in Year 11, our Early Entry Program recognizes and rewards the hard work that students have put into their studies, while providing them with some certainty about their next steps after school.

University of New England—Applications are now open UNE’s Early Entry has been running successfully for more than 30 years. Early Entry is open to all Year 12 applicants and relies solely on a school assessment of student attributes and abilities to determine their suitability for entry. The assessment is based around the student’s ability to work and learn independently, as well as their overall potential for academic success at UNE.
